Stephanie2 Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 My 6yo has many many many symptoms of lyme (not tested yet, getting there), but until now we have never had the joint pain. This started the last few nights, on the tail end of a week of augmentin and azith combo. Would this be considered a herx with that combo? Oh the pain is in his right hip and it only hurts at night.
lyme_mom Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Yes it sounds like a herx and augmentin and azithro treat Lyme and r used together.
mandyknowles Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 My daughter has very bad joint pain in her knees. She has had that since she first got sick, which was in sept of 2009. It could be a herx I guess...who really knows with this whole disease? When is he being tested?
pixiesmommy Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 Pixie gets knee pain when she is pos for strep. Don't have much exp. with hip pain other than myself. Mine got so bad a couple of years ago, that I had an x-ray and it showed bone spurs. Mine was very sudden onset. ????

aidansmom Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 My PANDAS/Lyme son seems to have joint pain that gets worse at times. He is speech delayed so it is based on my interpretation of what I think he is trying to tell me. I think the location varies for him but in the knee the most and he has seemed worse when he was in a exacerbation. I also have a question about joint pain for my other 2 kids. Since we have been looking into PANDAS and even more now that we have been looking into Lyme there are things about the other 2 kids that I wonder about - whether they might have Lyme too. If they do they are not nearly as severly affected as Aidan is. My daughter who just turned 12 is an Irish dancer. A year ago she had hip pain in one hip - went through PT and it went away when she strengthened her core. In June she was diagnosed with Severs disease - when her heel hurt - this very common at this age when they are growing so much and she was doing track and dance at the time so this made sense also. She also complained of a lot of symptoms at this time - racing heart, anxiety, tight chest, stomach issues etc which I chalked up to anxiety (now i WONDER!) The heel and other symptoms got better at the end of the summer. Now she has hip pain again in both hips but only when she is dancing hard. So logically it seems as if this pain is due to excercise/overuse and growing. But, I keep wondering if the pain could be Lyme related also. Now the other sibling = 9 year old boy is complaining of ankle pain and sometimes knee pain after basketball practice. I also noticed that he was sweating alot in his sleep the other night. The also both tested IGM positive for Mycoplasma and got 10 days of Azith for that and 9 year old has high ASO and Antidnase. So far, we have resoned that it is normal to have pain based on the activity that they are doing. Does anyone thing that these aches could be due to Lyme? Can sports and Lyme together cause joint pain or is it more logical that it is just the sports? would the joint pain in Lyme just come independently of what activity the person is doing? I will probably end up bringing everybody in the family to a LLMD but I am starting with the most problematic! Elizabeth

I will probably end up bringing everybody in the family to a LLMD but I am starting with the most problematic! Elizabeth Based on our experience this scenario screams lyme/bartonella/babesia. The chances that it is just a coincidence that both kids are having joint pain is not likely in my opinion. If you have one child with lyme you should test the whole family asap. That's what we did and all 3 kids were exposed and then I realized that their symptoms were related to TBD. My son had hip pain briefly and he was treated for lyme. He was the least symptomatic. Joint pain that comes and goes sounds like lyme, especially the hip. Lyme patients often have other infections like mycoplasma. I read that a very high number of lyme patients have mycoplasma so it isn't a stretch that they could have both. The heel pain sounds like bartonella as does the anxiety. Tightness in the chest could b related to anxiety or is it like air hunger-can't get enough air? Sweats are assocated with babesia. NExt thing I would ask is do you have or your husband have any symptoms that could be lyme symptoms? You'd be surprised what symptoms you can have an ignore.
pixiesmommy Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 My symptoms point to it and the dr we saw said 99% sure I did based on symptoms, but not labs. Labs were indeterminate and he was debating whether we should provoke. We are changing doctors due to some issues we are having with his protocol for Pixie. Hip pain cleared almost completely with diet change- real food only, no gluten, no sugar, no corn. It's been a year on this diet now and I have almost no hip pain ever.
sf_mom Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 This is very possible a herx from combo antibiotics. Our older son did not complain much of joint pain until we started treating for Lyme with combo antibiotics. These symptoms are starting to subside with last rotation of antibiotics. -Wendy
Stephanie2 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Report Posted January 27, 2011 I stopped the augmentin a few days ago (only on azith now, back to strep prophylaxis) and he has not complained of the joint pain again. I wonder if this will help for insurance purposes in getting tests covered. I spoke to insurance company yesterday and they said they need history showing symptoms fo lyme. We have a lot but I would think the joint pain would be undeniable.
sf_mom Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Definitely document every little ache or pain. They are important... For me the pain truly migrates, knee pain might bother me after a walk, hand might ache in a.m., thigh pain off and on, back aches.
