philamom Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 philamom, Do you know what the problem is with flagyl and milk thistle, taking them both? I am currently taking milk thistle and tinidazole (aka tindamax), a cyst buster similar to flagyl I would suppose. I hadn't heard anything about these combinations being a problem. I can't remember if it was due to the flagyl not being absorbed properly with the milk thistle or if there could potentally be a reaction. I will see if I can find the info again. I remember reading it at canlyme.com or LDASEPA website under drug interactions. It stood out to me, because I was considering the milk thistle for elevated liver enzymes. Found it: Milk Thistle and Vitamin C can undermine Flagyl treatment: -Silymarin (milk thistle) has been shown to reduce blood levels of Flagyl by 30%. an effect that could lead to therapeautic failure. -Vit C (250mg twice daily) combined with Vitamin E (200mg twice daily) reduced the effectiveness of Flagyl. It's listed at California Lyme Disease Association under Lyme 101. Go to Lyme disease and then Treatment...it's at the bottom of the page (considerations while on treatment).
norcalmom Posted January 21, 2011 Author Report Posted January 21, 2011 Thank you all for your support and suggestions. We don't know if my son has Lyme, but I do know he has mycoPlasma, and he's probably had it for a long time. When he went on azith over a year ago, he was in the middle of a pandas exacerbation - and things probably coulnd't get much worse (OK I've read worse stories, but for him, he was at a low) and he was just coming out of an exacerbation, and the antibiotics seemed to help. What has happened in past 2 days isn't (so far) an exacerbation. He only has a minor tic, some emotional liability and complains of a "sort of" headache (in his mind the need to tic and its supression may cause this "ticc-y" headache, or he may have a real head ache...I dunno!). HIs mood is fine (he's cried a couple times, but it was short lived, and wasn't brought on by rages of frustration and anger like an exacerbation)...And the first two symptoms of pandas exacerbation were always bedwetting and insomnia - he hasn't had either. I've been emailing with Garth Nicholson, a microbiologist that specializes in chronic infection and mycoplasma. He (along with SF MOM!) also recommends benedryl, only he says to give it prior to antibiotics. He also recommends some pulverized and strained lemon with olive oil drink...and some thing called NTFactor (which I've been trying to find out more about, its a supplement ) He's a bit of a conspiracy theory guy because of his experience in military and weaponized microbes..but he has spent a long time studying various chronic diseases, the overlap (oh...Lyme is on his list too!) There are about 6? chronic infections he find high comorbidity with and the longer you've had one. the more likely you will have one of the others.
sf_mom Posted January 21, 2011 Report Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) I am so glad you made contact with Garth Nicholson regarding Mycoplasma. I understand he has responded to other e-mails as well. Anyway, from what I understand he strongly believes MCIS is the source for many mental illnesses. I think he even spoke at this years ILADS conference if I remember correctly. Glad he concurred with the benadryl. It is a temporary solution for longer term treatment of chronic infection. We hope to rotate down from using it nightly soon. We do give just prior to nightly antibiotics approximately one hour before bed. I am also positive Garth Nicholson gave a good recommendation for Dr. H. I believe they know each other well. -Wendy Edited January 21, 2011 by SF Mom

Good Job....i tried to email..i think i did anyway...a few months ago..but no reply or auto reply or anything... So what if you give your abx in the morning...would you give benedryl then..or just at night.. I believe the longer you have one the more likely for another...especially as the body gets tired from the constant fight.. Do you know what 6?
