I got back her labs from last week. Her LFT (liver function tests) are still elevated so we have to repeat those. She was negative for Lyme.

Does anyone else have kids who have elevated LFT's?

my 2yo had elevated LFT back in July. We gave Milk Thistle and the repeat labs came back normal. It may have had to do with the use of grapefruit seed extract and/or diflucan, amongst all the other stuff he takes. What did the doc say about it?

They d/c'd some of her meds & changed her to different ones (that should not have impact on these levels) when they found these elevated around Christmas - at her hospital admission. Now, they are uncertain why they remain elevated, so I'm getting more concerned. I do know though, that the Prozac she was taking can take a few weeks to complete leave their system after they are off it, so hoping that is all we're dealing with here.

DD's LFTs are elevated every once in a while, often because of the diflucan. We check them monthly. If they are excessively high we take a break from the diflucan and they go down fairly quickly. She also takes Milk Thistle 3x/day. Denise, that's great that your Lyme test came out negative. You used IGeneX, right?

Also, with you DD on Risperdal, be sure to check prolactin levels every once in a while.

I've tried a few times to get a good look at those labs today and answer this thread - just now getting to it... I think! lol

Ok, I am not too familiar with Lyme yet, but the labs I got yesterday show it was Western Blot:

IGG Antibody - Negative

IGM Antibody - Negative

C3 complement was normal range at 114 in the 83-177 range.

On 12-22-10:

Protein low at 6.3

ASO 52.7

Liver Function:

AST (SGOT) 167

ALT (SGPT) 108

Hmm.... can't locate her labs that were taken before discharge on 12-25-10, but I recall they were still high, although they had dipped a little lower than they were on 12-22.

On 1-12-11:

LFT:

AST (SGOT) 170 (Normal range is 10-37)

ALT (SGPT 102 (Normal range is 5-40) '

Interesting... bilirubin was a tad low that day: 0.1 in the 0.2 - 1.2 range

I have a pile of labs & records here next to me. I looked back and saw a couple other high levels for LFT... not as high as these, but slightly elevated around 55.

I'm adding to the list of questions to discuss with Dr. B next week. I'd like to try to get some excel docs done to bring with us to show some patterns. In the meantime, if anyone has input about these labs, please let me know. Thanks!!

I also see that her ASO's have never been above normal range; however, a couple years ago, they were lower than what we saw about a month ago. I don't know if that is significant or not, given that they have always been in the normal range.

Re: lyme - Western Blot is a type of test - a way of analyzing the data. Quest does a western blot, Igenex does a western blot. But they look for different antibodies (which show up as bands on a western blot analysis). I'm assuming your lyme test was done by a lab in your local area, which probably used the CDC bands. My son was completely negative on a CDC western blot, but he has lyme and tested positive on band 31, 34, 39 for Igenex (two of these are not on the CDC WB and therefore didn't show up on his first lyme test).

Not trying to stir up the lyme debate, not saying your child has lyme. Only alerting you to the fact that a different lab (Igenex or other lyme specialty lab) could give you a different result because they look at different markers. Just something to discuss with Dr B when you see him.

My daughter's LFT's are elvated. We just ran them again--waiting for results. She was never on Difflucan or Nystastin. She has PANDAS and Lyme (PITAND).

AST

Nov 09: 34 (H)

June 10: 49 (H)

Sept 10: 36 (H)

The reference range is 12-32

ALT

June 10: 42 (H)

The reference range is 8-24

hmm... those are about the numbers I saw in her labs a couple of years ago, philamom. They are significantly higher now. I wonder if there is some link there for our kids related to the PANDAS/PITAND.

I was told by her LLMD that it's very common in patients with lyme. So maybe the same with other infections as well.

Aha!! Thank you!! Lyme questions moving up toward top of list for Dr. B meeting next week! I'm wondering if she needs a more specific test for it than what we've had so far that showed she is negative.
