trademein Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 So it occured to me that i will need to find a PANDAS doctor soon. In 6 months my DD9 will be taken off her Pen V K. She was put on the for Post Streptoccal Reactive Arthritis. A few days later The PANDAS struck. So she is only on the Pen V K for the PSRA not the PANDAS. Her pedi and Infectious Disease doc are not helping to much with the PANDAS. So has anyone gone to Dr. Trifietti in NJ?
peglem Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Haven't seen Dr. T, but was wondering if PennVK helps with the PANDAS?
trademein Posted November 24, 2010 Author Report Posted November 24, 2010 Haven't seen Dr. T, but was wondering if PennVK helps with the PANDAS? I really don't know. We are new to this and the Pen V K is the only antibiotic she can take for the PSRA so we really haven't tried anything else. This started in April and in October we saw an improvement. She also started Zoloft which I think has made a HUGE difference in her. So Is it the Zoloft or is The Pen V K working? I don't know. I am scared to stop it though. Dr. T is the only doc in NJ I have found. My husband and I both work full time and we have 2 other children so going out of state is not an option right now. My ID had mentioned the plasma exchange but said it doesn't work that well. Today she is doing ok. I know she has been exposed to strep in school and she has not reacted to it. Yet. She has Tics and slight OCD also some rages but not bad. Her teacher has suggested a 504 plan for her. She is a A student still thoughout all this. Wow I am rambling... ok so I really don't know if it is working or if the Zoloft is working but one of them is and that makes me a happy mama!
peglem Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Well, if it took 6 months to see improvement, I'd say its not the PennVK that's helping! From what I've heard on here, Dr.T is wonderful!
Stephanie2 Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 don't forget about Scott Smith in Edison, NJ. He is on the PANDAS Resource Network medical advisory board. PM me for contact info. He has done wonders for my kids.
momcap Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Haven't seen Dr. T, but was wondering if PennVK helps with the PANDAS? My DS7 had a remarkable personality/behaviour/physical change when he was on penicillin for 20 days. No more OCD, ODD, ADHD, mood disorder, SPD, and no more pain. It was amazing (and scary). Then as soon as it ended he went right back to irritable, chronic pain, etc. And he cultured positive for strep throat after all that pennicillin. Strep is not resistant to penicillin in a test tube, but in the human body it does find ways to hide (intracellular, etc) and pen has a fairly high failure rate in treating strep.
formedbrds Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I can recommend Dr. T. Did you check out his website? His concern for our children really shows when you speak to him. He will answer all your questions thoroughly.
