Excellent Info from FJ* on Pyroluria induced tics
Mustang Carole replied to Chemar's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi, I ordered a kit that arrived in just 3 days. The package insert states that they need a dr. name . We are seeing our Dan doctor so he can sign off on this anyway. This is just a heads up for anyone running into a problemo. This is my 2 cents. Mustang Carole -
HI, My 2 cents here.......I so not salt any food, but if I have to , I try to alternate the 2 types , the celtic sea salt and the iodized. DAN DR prefers the former, the sea salt for his patients. Mustang Carole

Glad I could help you. Happy Trails, Mustang Carole

Hi Chemar, Congratulations on such an honor for your son and you get a big applause for being such a great MOM ! A move to a new school is a major stress level for anyone, the fact that your son over came these stresses and also made a major contribution in writing is indeed a sign of maturity, inner strength and determination. He has the qualities that make you so special, too. Hip Hip Hip Hurray for you both. Thanks for all your postings to help the rest of us out here in cyberland trying to help our selves and our loved ones. Happy Trails, Mustang Carole

Cost of Plasmaphoresis
Mustang Carole replied to Mustang Carole's topic in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Hi Again, I am answering my own question in case anyone is interested. The cost for one treatment is 3.5 K and 6 treatments are given to start. Has anyone been rejected by your insurance for paying for the procedure? Thanks. Mustang Carole -
Hi Listmates, Does anyone have any info regarding the average cost for a plasaphoresis treatment. I know the starting rx is 3 times per week for 2 weeks, then reassessed for futher rx. Plasmaphoresis is a filtering of the blood that takes about 5 hours per rx. as an out patient. Thanks for any responses! Mustang Carole

Hi , Update, learn from our mistakes............ 1. Pediatrician never heard of PANDAS 1A Pediatric neurologist did not draw titers for strept, but draw a bunch from my wish list. 2. Movement Neurologist did not want to draw strept titers, long story, but he did do it...but only drew one. 3. Immunologist corrected all the above by drawing 2 strept titers. The only reason we got referred to her was b/c of a borderline antinuclear titer........which means inflammtion in the immune system. Stay tuned. Mustang Carole

Hi, My best advise is for you to take a deep breath and relax. This is life long disability that is just a part of your child's whole self. Is he different yes, but is he also very unique ...YES. He will have a compensated gift inside there that will pop up as he matures. He will surprise you! I have 2 with TS and # 1 drove us NUTS, now he is going for his MBA. Number #2 is another unique story buried here in the archives under autism and TS. Do one thing at a time so you can figure out exactely what you emilinated this week and he improves the following week. Read all that you can. Diet elimination for sensitivity is probably a good place to start. Make sure child gets plenty of rest, lots of love ane support at home and school, keep the self esteme strong. Warn new coachs, new teachers, etc about the tics..so they do not make unknowingly unkind remarks in front of classmates. Find a holistic docter that is willing to help you do the labs to find out what is going on and willing to help with vit. supps. The neurologists will order meds like candy. BEWARE that each drug has side effects that can be worse than the tics themselves. My son walks around with his eyes closed..called blephorspasms.. from Haldol...will he get better, hope so.....???? Read all you can in the archives and feel free to Email anytime. Hope we can all help each other. REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT ALONE !!!!!!! Happier trails for you,, Mustang Carole

Hi Joan, Let the kids have fun collecting all the goodies. Make a suggestion to donate all the candy to a local church or soup kitchen for the needy people. That will be a win win for all involved, teach your kids the lesson of sharing. Meanwhile, let them dive for apples, eat raisens and nuts, pumpin pie at an impromptu party suplied by you. Just my 2 cents. Mustang Carole

Hi Everyone, Just venting here! Our new pediatrician never heard of PANDA, so I enlightened him. New Neurologist #2 refuses to draw titers for strept till further interpretation of PET scan. Both do not believe in vitamins or any therapy. Good grief, Charlie Brown! New neurologist #! refused to even touch my son, and referred us to #2..long story, but at least she is very interested and wants to be updated on any diagnosis, labs, and rx. I think she is candidate for the conversion to our vits and supps.! Mustang Carole

Does cookware material or food from cans matter?
Mustang Carole replied to a topic in Autism Spectrum Disorders
Hi, My dr. told me not to cook with the iron skillet do to kid has high iron. and aluminum. We do not have aluminum cookware. I am using stainless steel for now. Is tghis okay ? Good idea about using the corning ware. Do not cook in the microwave because of the trans fats in the oils. I found dried beans at the health food store. There are recipies to make your own without all the addititves and bad oils. Hope this helps. -
HI, Please tell us why Magnesium results can be very low in the blood and show up as very high in the hair.

Hi, My advise to you is simple...take care of your self first because this child will depend on you all the way. Find an outside interest and go there , like books, start to read to get away in your head. Get on a chat forum with other parents because you will need support. YOU ARE NOT ALONE !!!! Do not gt over whelmed. . Your best intensions are for your kid or you would not have posted. Get help started ASAP due to early intervention is the best time for recovery. Seek professional help or find another Mom who can take you on the same path to a recovery. You will have a lot of twist and turns in your travels, but just remember, your kid can walk and talk and chew gum......they are alive and can move and be free and not paralized on a vent for life. There is always hope. Hope this helps a little. Been there, done that ..still doing that.

Hi, When my son was 17 , we looked into OCS while in college. The recruters were interested until they heard he has TS and on heavy medication. That was 5 years ago, so things may have changed. He is now off all meds after 10 years and going for his Masters Degree in Business at age 23......he is a smart cookie........We are so proud of him and us ! I do not know of a specific test for TS, but a complete work up by a neuropsychologist for ADD, etc may help you. We had my second son tested just recently for ADD. He has PDDNOS, TS, OCD and some ADD thrown in.too. Good Luck,,,,,,,they do get better as they mature.......hope this helps.

Hi Everyone, I am a Newbie to this site. I have 3 older kids with disabilities. Daughter is 24 with just married a poor medical student, she graduated from college in Honors English and she may have mild undiagnosed ADD Son # 1 is 23 and diagnosed with Tourettes, OCD and Rx with meds x 10 years for severe tics. He took himself off all his meds and today is tic free and just started for his MBA. Son # 2 is my problem child....at age 17 he is the sweetest and easiest child to raise, but he is DX with Aspergers, TS and now the Docs do not know what is wrong. Symptoms are freezing in place and gets stuck for up to 2 minutes, he is delayed in his responses to verbal questions or commands. He has had negative MRI, 48 hr EEG, awaiting PET scan to be done. He is treated with combo of drugs that do help...Ativan, Haldol and Luvox since June and he gined 50 lb. I am desperate to help this child. Trying to wean him off these meds for PET scan and he gets very angry and stuck alot. He is homeschooled for now. Anyone ever hear of this? Help........ Tired Mom/Nurse
