I saw this link on the Lymenet site. I'm not sure if I am posting the link correctly though. http://www.verizon.net/newsroom/portals/newsroom.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=newsroom_portal_page__article&_article=3063181

My ds(10) and I are both being treated for Lyme. I had Lyme (bulls eye rash) which was treated with only 10 days of doxy prior to conceiving my son. He is Igenex positive - IGM 41 & 58 and IGG 31,34,39,41,45,58 (one band shy of being CDC positive on both IGM and IGG). My recent CD57 was low 20's.

This is good. I was looking for something like this but couldn't find it last night. Thank you! [quote name=KeithandElizabeth' date='04 September 2010 - 03:37 AM' timestamp='1283585865' post='82479] Justine: I just wanted to add this blurb about herxing that I found on the internet. Note the symptoms of fever and muscle pain: "The Jarisch -Herxheimer, or Herxheimer reaction, was named for the German dermatologist, Karl Herxheimer (1844-1947). Dorlands Medical Dictionary refers to the Herxheimer reaction as a transient, short-term, immunological reaction commonly seen following antibiotic treatment of early and later stage [infectious] diseases which [may be] manifested by fever, chills, headache, myalgias (muscle pain), and exacerbations of cutaneous lesions. The reaction has been attributed to liberation of endotoxins-like substances or of antigens (a substance which causes an immune reaction) from the killed or dying microorganisms."

Stomach upset with augmentin

Could that be not enough fluids? I have noticed that smell with my kids when their urine isn't clear - an indication that they aren't drinking enough. Just a thought. -

We are actually having the opposite effect with Augmentin - constipation. When I called our dr to see what to do, his front office misunderstood and relayed the message that my son had diarrhea. When I spoke with the dr on the phone, he said to stop the Augmentin. I then clarified that we had constipation not diarrhea and he said for us to stay on the Augmentin. My point is, maybe talk to your dr to see if he wants you to switch antibiotics? Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone have experience with Augmentin causing constipation? -
Very interesting and exciting.

We are dealing with congenital Lyme and as it was explained to me by our dr, the immune system can take quite a hit with Lyme and therefore make you vulnerable for things like PANDAS and frankly any autoimmune disease. I'm not saying that is true in this case, but it can happen as it did with my son. When I spoke with Dr. Cunningham recently, this was an area she was going to be looking into. Some dr's believe that IVIG can be helpful with Lyme also.

So glad that your son is doing better. We are doing zithromax and augmentin. -
Help with scheduling antibiotics/supps/probiotics

Laura, Good information. I do have the forms from school to fill out if needed. Thanks though. I am going to try and do Augmentin in morning at 7:30 and Zith at 2:45 when I pick him up and then Augmentin at 6pm with dinner. Then we could do probiotics at bedtime two hours later. Our probiotic powder says to give with meals so not sure if that's because it's a powder or if that's just a standard line. If he gets up early enough, I might try to squeeze in a probiotic or yogurt an hour before the antibiotic. I'll probably leave the activated charcoal to the weekends (unless we really need it)where we have more time. My dr also recommended an aloe vera drink to help with the constipation issues we had from the two antibiotics. -

Elizabeth - Is your son still taking more than one antibiotic a day? If so, are you giving at same time or spacing apart? So far the only "herxing" we have seen is a bad rash that comes and goes on the arms and stomach. Mood is still good but eye tic is still there. We're only two weeks in with treatment so maybe too early for serious herxing... I'm so wimpy though, I'm only giving one charcoal pill every day. Does that help herxing or encourage it because you are getting rid of the toxins? My own dr recommended using Culturelle in addition to our regular probiotic to help with stomach issues. Anyone use that? Is it considered a probiotic where you have to give separately from antibiotic? -
So I have this image of all us moms getting out of bed tomorrow morning saying "rabbit rabbit"!

Supplement/Antibiotic/Probiotic Timing-Ugh!

We also see Dr. B. for PANDAS and Lyme. We are only 90 minutes away from him though He is treating my son for Lyme but he also suggested finding an LLMD for further treatment. We are seeing good results so far but I am still looking to make an appt with an LLMD. I do feel Dr. B. is very thorough and truly listens to you. We are holding off on IVIG for now but if we go forward, we will do it with him. Our integrative dr recommended getting an immunologist on board and since Dr. B. is close and also treats PANDAS, it made sense to see him.

Igenex Test Requires Doc Signature?
justinekno replied to Suzan's topic in PANS / PANDAS (Lyme included)
We had a similiar experience which ended up having Clinical Lab Partners do a CDC WB (we had already had one do through Labcorp a month before so this was annoying and costly) when they even told me they could send it out to IGenex. Unless you walk away with the kit and bloodwork, I wouldn't trust that the bloodwork is going to IGenex. With that said, our integrative dr has the IGenex kids on site and did the draw for us and then sent the kit via Fedex from their office. I would think a chiro could sign the form. They're MD's right? IGenex just needs a dr whom they can send the results to because they won't send them directly to the patient. -
Ohhh, great questions. Can't wait to see if anyone has answers. We are on Augmention 875 twice a day too.

Help with scheduling antibiotics/supps/probiotics

Are your kids not in school then? I was just wondering how you do the probiotics a couple of hours after breakfast. I was even thinking of sending probiotics to school with my son! -

Hmm, that could work. He's not supposed to take the zith and augmentin at the same time but if he took the zith at school then I could do the charcoal after school and then probiotic again at bedtime. Thanks!! This is really giving me a headache. -
I posted this on the Lyme Forum but then realized that this could also be a PANDAS issue so I thought I would post here too. I am trying to put together a schedule for my son's antibiotic/supplements/probiotic/activated charcoal. We were okay with a schedule for summer but now that school is starting back, I am having trouble trying to keep everything spaced apart. My son really doesn't want to have to take anything at school but I think that given he takes two different antibiotics every day, he may not have a choice. Does anyone have suggestions on how they make it all work?

My son is on Augmentin (started a week ago) and his mood and attitude has improved SO much. He takes Zithromax too so I wasn't sure which to attribute the change to but from reading this, I would say it's the Augmentin. Although, we have had Augmentin and Zithromax separately in the past and have not seen this type of improvement before so maybe it's a little of both? It's never a clear cut answer for us! We are treating for Lyme & PANDAS.
