Tracey~ I wish I could help with your question, but I have no idea. I was wondering if you can share what the benefits are of using Omega 3? Does it help for tic reduction or just the ADD? I read all the time that it is beneficial to take but never read why.

The potency of the remedies are 30c. Two of them are mainly to help with stress and anxiety which are huge triggers for tics. The Doctor is trained in homeopathy and really believes it can help. I'm still not so sure.

The doctor said the Topamax is not a fast acting medicine. We started at 15 mg. for a couple of weeks then moved to 30 mg. . After 1 month the tics decreased significantly but I think it is due to school break and no stress. We have now upped the dose to 45mg. I now have to wait and see how that works. The doctor says it takes 2-4 weeks to know if it is working. He takes the homeopathic detox once a week and has done it for 3 weeks. All I know is that it is supposed to slowly detox impurities. Not sure what type? The eye tics are hard blinks, sometimes winks along with a mouth grimace(his jaw move to the right when he blinks hard).

Hi Chemar What is the difference between acetyl L carnitine and l carnitine? Are they considered tic reducers? Is taurine a tic reducer? The homeopathic meds are Cina and gesemium sempervirens which are supposed to help with anxiety/ stress. Once a week he takes Thuja occidentalis as a detox.. My sons pediatrician is an MD but also practices homopathy. A neurologist prescibed the Topamax. They both agree that are supplements are ok together.

My son had constant facial and eye tics for two solid months. They went away over school break and are now back with a vengence. These is what we take for supplements: Kids Calm B6 Acely l carnitine multivitamin 2 homeopathic meds He has also been taking Topamax since the end of November. He was taking 30 mg. but have upped it to 45mg. last Wed. The doctor wants me to add Flax or Fish oil. I was thinking Taurine. It's seems a lot of people on this site have success. Can he take taurine with the carnitine? I need some ideas or suggestions. Thanks

Are the IGG and the IGE allergy tests that you can get at a typical allergists office or are they through an environmental physician or naturopath?

Has anyone ever been to Dr. Mercola's Natural Health Center?

How much B6 did you give him daily to get rid of the eye tics? I am giving him 25mg each day. He weighs 67 lbs.

For the eye blinking that I mentioned above, I gave my son B6 and after 3 days the blinking was gone. I don't know if it was due to the vitamin or something in his diet.

My son was on clonidine for about 2 weeks. The first week it increased his tics. The doctor upped the dose and my son was practically a zombie. My DH demanded he come off the medicine immediately. That is how I found this board. We needed alternative treatment.

Kids Calm is magnesium, zinc and Vitamin C. It comes in a powder formula that you mix with hot water to drink like tea. It did calm my sons eye tics within the first 4 or 5 days of using it. I was hoping the eye tics would never reappear, but they did.

Hi, Has he been playing video games or watching TV more than usual? Try eliminating all screen time for about a week. We use Mag Taurine, maybe you can give that instead of the Kid's Calm, because it has magnesium and taurine in one. You can open it up and add it to juice. Jane What brand of the Magnesium taurate do you use and what is the dose?

My sons current tics seem to be brought on by stress. He is very hard on himself and expects perfection. He is a straight A student but has been struggling with math for about 2 week and has a handful of low grades on papers. I have put no pressure on him because he will pull through. He came out of school the other day blinking like mad saying he was stupid because of a math paper he had to correct. I swear the stress of Math brought out his tics. He plays xbox and nintendo DS but we have never noticed it increasing his tics. We took both away yesterday because he was stressed out of the games. I need him to try to relax a bit. I also wonder is his tics may be related to seasonal allergies. Spring and fall here in the midwest can be bad for people with allergies. I don't know if he has them but it seems to be these times that he show the tics. I went to the natural food store and talked to the owner who reallly seems to know his stuff (doctors in my town consult with him) and he suggested I try B6. I am going to try only 25mg because there is also B6 in his multi. I hope I can help my son through this because possibly stress brought on the tics, but then he will get stressed because on the tics. He can't seen to win.

Hi~ My sons eye tics have reappeared. They went away last time as soon as I started him on Kids Calm. He is still on it but the tics are back 4 months later. They are difficult for him to deal with because everyone asks him why he does the hard blinking. I have a hard time watching him only because I feel so bad that this is happening to my child. I think I have read on these posts that either B6 or taurine may help with eye tics. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was wondering if anyone has any book suggestions regarding environmental allergies or food allergies? I would like to read more on each of these topics but don't know where to begin.

It does not cause drowsiness in my son. He gets 1/2 tsp. with breakfast and 1/2 tsp. with dinner. In the beginning he did have diarehea (sp?) but it did go away quickly. He really likes taking it due to the flavor.

My kids are 8 and 5. The 8 year old can swallow small pills but not the big multi's.

Any suggestions, please?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good chewable multivitamin? It needs to have a decent flavor for my kids to willingly take it. I don't like to fight over a vitamin. It seems the chewables that have great amount of vitamins taste disgusting. I don't blame them for not wanting to take it. Any input on brands, etc. would be appreciated.

Did you use a doctor to help determine any supplements? Did you do any allergy testing etc..? Sorry for so many questions but I am curious how people began their journey. We just used the boards here for advice. I started with Magnesium(quite frankly I haven't seen any change with it, but I know many people are deficient in mag so we continue with it). Then I added a good multi vitamin. Then I added 25 mg of B6. That's where we're at now. I may start adding in N Acetyl Cysteine and L-carnitine eventually. None of these things came from a recommendation from a doctor, just from what I read on the board. I, too, suggest going to Bonnie's vitamins website and seeing what the doses are. Also, I give Vitamin C...forgot to add that one! I think alot of this is trial and error and what works for one person may not work for another. ie. My son reacted poorly to 5-HTP where some people find it to relieve their anxiety/OCD. This supplement made my sons' OCD worse(much worse). I suggest you also start writing in a journal and keeping track of what you're feeding your child, what the tics look like that day, what supplements you're giving, and behavior issues you see that day. This may give you a clue as to what some triggers may be. Mostly my son's triggers are stress, both good and bad stress! So, I try to keep a predictable routine and make sure that he knows what's expected of him on a day to day basis. Hope this helps! Bonnie S Thanks for your advice! I get nervous at the thought of overdoing things. My son doesn't even think he has tics anymore but I see them coming back with school stress. Kids have way too many social pressures. My son is a great well rounded little boy with lots of friends but he easily gets his feelings hurt. The neighbor boy is having a back to school party and told my son he is not invited. These boys were best of friends 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately the boy has very strange parents so who knows whats going on!

Has anyone had any experience with Barleans Omega-3 Flax oil supplement? I bought some from the health food store to give to the entire family. It tastes like a strawberry bannana smoothie. Is flax supposed to help settle tics?

Hi ! I currently give my son Kids calm for his tics. I would like to try something more for his facial tics. Do I try Omega 3, B6, taurine. I have no idea where to start. The dose amount I should give frightens me because I don't want to over do the supps.
