It appears my other child has tics too! I'm freaked out!
crazy replied to crazy's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Yesterday was a pretty good day for having mild tic. Today doesn't look so promising. I notice he now grabs his chin to try to stop the tic. His neck makes an awful cracking sound when he tics. He said it feels much better after the tic. I may need to look into a chiropractor. -
What kind of doctor is giving the blood test to your on?

Who do I see if it may be PANDAS? We see his pediatrician on Tuesday. Do they run a blood test? -

Thank you Chemar, I try my best to give my children a good life. I get upset when they are "suffering". I appreciate support from others, it's hard to talk to my own friends because they really don't understand. I think I will reduce screen time, not take it away. Have you ever heard of the impact ipod apps have on kids with tics? Also what is a good amount of magnesium to give to a 73 lbs. 10 year old? I started with 80 mg. of natural calm and that gives him a loose stool. -

My son woke up in tears because he can't use his ipod for games. He said he feels punished, I feel horrible. I feel his neck tic is so bad because he is always hunched over some game/computer. It started as a sore neck needing to use a heating pad to a tic. I am just trying to help him, I was thinking if he relaxes his neck he won't tic as much. I'm thinking I need to just really limit his time. I made an appointment with his pediatrician for next Tuesday. She also practices homeopathy. My other son saw only mild improvement using it. A friend of mine has a child with TS, and he uses homeopathy from same doctor with great success. My oldest son said to me today that he doesn't want to be known as the tic family. My stomach hurts and I just want to cry. That doesn't make me very productive at work. I would love any words of encouragement. I feel so alone, my husband is not very supportive. He loves the kids dearly but tries to avoid all the negative stuff. -
I have not been active on this forum since about 2010. My 13year old has had tics since he was 7. We did end up using topamax with great success. He also takes magnesium, p-5-p, multi vit, and sometimes l-carnitine. He usually has 2 flare ups a year. It's happening right now. My 10 year old has started with tics. He is doing a head jerk/shake thing and also a jaw thrust. At first I thought he was showing signs of allergies because he said his tongue would burn and itch. I don't know how to deal with this. I sometimes feel it is my fault because I must have passed on this gene (I have never had tics). I feel guilt! My son wants to go to the doctor to fix his new allergy (that what he calls it). I'm tired of people staring or asking questions. ,My kids are wonderful and deserve a life that is kind to them. My older son began with tics for the first time during the spring also. The first thing I'm going to do is take him to an environmental allergist. I've begun magnesium. As of today, no more video games and computers because it seems to agitate his neck. He is taking a magnesium bath right now. I'm sorry this is so long and I need to vent. I have read on several occasions that tics lesson beginning around 13. Does anyone have any input or advice? I could use some good news.

My son does not usually have vocal tics and right now he does and it driving me crazy also! I keep playing music, turning on the Tv, etc. It is a mild click in the back of his throat. My concern is he has never shown signs of OCD until recently. He has to have things organized a certain way in his room or he cant' go to bed, he has thoughts of forgetting to pack something in his bag and obsessess about it until he can check it. He says the click is something that his mind is telling him to do, he says he can control the tic. Is this normal? Is there a supplement that I can try to help with the thoughts and the vocal tic? I'm getting concerned because some of these behaviors are starteing to impact friendships.

How long will natural calm start working?
crazy replied to desperatemum's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
For my son tics never went away while taking natural calm. He only could tolerate 1/2 teaspoon because he would have loose stools. He now takes 110mg of magnesorb along with B6, multi vitamin, SAF, and Topamax. -
My son was on 45mg of topamax plus I give him supplements. He was doing so well that the neurologist wanted to lower the dose to 30mg. The tics flared up after about 10 days. He can not stop blinking his eyes. He begged to go back to the original dose. We started back at 45mg 2 days ago. What do you give to help with flare ups? We have been doing epson baths. I feel so bad, he was doing great and we made a change that is making him miserable. He keeps saying that he has a screwed up brain. I am not against the topamax since it was working and he has no side effects. The doctor wanted to see if he is possibly outgrowing the tics, which we now know he isn't. For those of you who see a naturopath what do they suggest for tics? I can not afford to go to one since it is not covered by insurance. I would appreciate any help!

My son who is about 85lbs takes 50mg of country life P-5-P B6. I use to split the pill and give half in A.M and half at dinner. I do not do that anymore.

Tics act up after 8months almost tic free
crazy replied to crazy's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Well the tics have been virtually gone for 3 days now. I have been looking constantly and I really don't see any. I wish I know what caused the flare up. I am assuming allergies because they seem to be in control again also. I don't care what doctors say, there has to be a link with allergies and tics. -

crazy replied to crazy's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
The eye blinking is not as severe as it has been in the past, but regardless its a tic and its noticable. I get such a knot in my stomach when this happens. I try to not bring it up with my son because everyone says ignore it. It is hard to find out if its stressing him out. Today after school he did say Im blinking a lot today. I must be stressed. Then he drops the topic. I work part time in the school system and now know 3 children who are friends with me kids have tics. The parents have never told me but all tics have become quite noticable to me now that I have a child with them. Surprising that there are quite a few chilren with tics. I would have never noticed unless I learned about them because of the son. I wish I could say too my son, look...lots of kids have tics, let me show you. But of course I won't. Regarding allergies his are mold and house dust. It appears the mold count is low. But who knows it may be a factor. -
I am sad, my sons tics have reappeared after very few tics since August. He has an eye blinking tic. He has a lot of things going on school and sports wise so he thinks stress is triggering it. He also has a few seasonal allergies so that may also contribute. I was getting so used to being tic free. He does take 45mg. of Topamax.. The doctor always has said that It won't make you tic free and not to change anything unless it has been more than 3 weeks of ticcing. I hate tics. I want them to stay away. It is horrible how stress triggers tics and tics stress him out more.

My son has been on Topamax for over a year now with no side effects. He takes 45 mg. a day. It does not make him tic free but has greatly reduced it.

My son was been diagnosed with chronic motor tics about a year ago by a neurologist. He had tics prior this was an official diagnosis. He is Topamax which does somewhat help the tics. He has been about 98% tic free since August. We went to quick care last night because on a white pearl like thing on his tonsil. He did a rapid strep test which is negative. He said the spot was a tonsil stone and plucked it right out. My son has no cold symptons or tics at this time. I got called today that the 24 hour test was postive. I was shocked. Does that mean he has Pandas? Is he a strep carrier? I do not see increase in tics, his behavior is typical (a bit moody). He has no other issues. What should I do? Should he just take the antiboitic and not pursue this anymore? He is so tired of Doctors. We go to the Neurologist Sat. for a follow and perscription refill. Please give me some input.

My son showed his teacher the white thing in his mouth and she sent him to the nurse. It was a tonsil stone and the doctor plucked it out.

I took my son to quick care yesterday because the school nurse was concerned with a white thing on his tonsils. Took the rapid test and it was negative. The doctor called it tonsil stones and pushed it right out. I got a call today from the nurse and the 24 hour test came back postive! He has no signs of being sick. He looks and feels great. I asked about this and they said maybe he is a carrier of strep. What does that mean? He will take an antibiotic. What do I do now? We acturally go to the neurologist Saturday for a Topamax refill. Should I ask him? He is 98% tic free since August. Could this be Pandas ? What is Pandas?

I know this is off topic but does anyone know how to treat tonsil stones (I don't remeber the technical term).. They are white chunky pearl like things on the tonsils that cause really bad breath. They eventually come out but will continue to form. I would like to treat it so we can prevent them from appearing. My internet search gives lots of results that I can buy a book with a cure.

facial and eye tics are back like crazy!
crazy replied to crazy's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi girls! Thanks for the encouragement. My son is 9. We have again started epson salt baths again. He really hates sitting in the bath. I don't notice any change by giving him a bath. Right now by mouth I give hime 220mg of magnesium and I think their is 25 mg. in his multivitamin. We have begun allergy testing with an environmental physician. so far he has a mild intolerance to 2 molds and house dust. I was convinced he would have environmental allergies. The food testing begins next Monday. They will begin by testing 5-10 basic foods. He is really hating all of this. He says he doesn't mind the tics (I know he does). I give hime 50mg of B6, what is the highest I can take it? Thanks for the support! -
My sons tics are non stop. I don't know how he can see anything with all the blinking. His whole face shifts while he blinks. I have been watching other people watch my son and they just stare! He says he doesn't care and prefers not to go to anymore doctors. It is killing me! My son is highly intelligent and athletic and I'm afraid no one will take him seriosly. School starts in less than 2 weeks and I'm worried how kids will treat him! He take 45mg of Topamax (I don't think it helps), multi vitamin, magnesium, B6 P-5-P, and Acelty L carnitine. Should I increase the topamax, up a supplement or try something new. I want to get him in therapy for coping skills but he is not willing because he says its for crazy people and like he said he's done with doctors. His diet is not fabulous but I have never notice anything to be a trigger other than stress. I really could use some advice! Anything please! I do think I'm going crazy! People tell me that I am such a calm, level headed person, If they only new I'm losing It!

It appears my sons allergys are acting up. He begins allergy testing next week but can not take any otc allergy medicine 7 days prior to the test. He will be outdoors all week due to a day camp. Is there any natural way to help him or supplement that I can try?
-
My son takes 45 mg. of Topamax(30mg. at bed, 15mg. in A.M.). He is almost 9 and weighs 70 lbs. He started in November, it took 3-4 weeks to notice a change. He tics mildly on it but we have had a couple weeks here and there where tics are strong. Right now is one on those times. It seems possible allergies and stress are the factors.
-
My son takes 45 mg. of Topamax (15mg. in the morning and 30 mg. at bedtime). He still waxes and wanes while taking it which makes me wonder if it really works. The tics have been much milder since being on it and does have tic free times.
-
I am still trying to figure out how much magnesium I should give to my son. He is almost 9 and weighs about 70 lbs. His tics are flaring up again so I'm trying to tweak our supplements . I don't want to up the Topamax. Also, do people give omegas for overall brain health or does ist help to reduce tics? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

myrose, How long did it take for you to notice the medication working? My son has been on Topamax since mid Novemeber and was doing real well. About 3 weeks ago the tics came back full force. He is on 30 mg. and weights 71 lbs. We are thinking of trying 45mg. It took 1 month on meds before we noticed any difference. The tics never fully went away, but improved greatly.
