  1. As for B-complexes, do any of these come close to looking okay? http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/vf/labels/000190HB.pdf (one I'm already taking, but have problems with) http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/vf/labels/000580HB.pdf http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/vf/labels/000770HB.pdf Any of these: http://www.solgar.com/Products/Vitamins/Vi...-B-Complex.aspx (can't link directly to each) There are others (fomr Boots) but the 'view more information' button has disappeared again lol And does this C-complex look useful at all? http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/vf/labels/003140HB.pdf
  2. I can't remember exactly, but I think I've been taking: magnesium citrate for about a month and a quarter/month and a half zinc oxide + vitamin C for about a week zinc picolinate - bought yesterday, taken two tablets so far chlorella for about one and a half weeks Candida Clear for about two-three weeks? acidophilus plus for just a little shorter period of time since starting Candida Clear vitamin B6 - started then stoped, then started about half a week/half a week ago? Seven Seas Pulse Omega 3 fish oil for about half a week taurine - started, stopped then started again about two weeks ago (before bed instead, to avoid feelings of rage - so I hope it's not doing damage lol) B complex+B12 started, stopped then started again recently. Not sure when. Now before bed only. I thought I'd give the fish oil a try just in case I was one of the lucky ones who found it okay. Surprise surprise that wasn't the case In fact I contacted Dr. Robin Pauc about the fact that fish oil seems to increase tics (he suggests the use of it in his books Is That My Child? and The Brain Food Plan). He says that TS, OCD, ADHD, ADD, some types of autism and AS, dyslexia and dyspraxia are all part of 'developmental delay syndrome'. It's pretty controversial. He makes some good points, but it doesn't seem right to me. This was my email to him: Anyway... I don't know if I'm getting enough calcium or not. I always thought I was, but I don't actually know, especially if I'm going to supplement with 300-500mg+ of magnesium. I'm confused as to whether I need to: - increase magnesium to balance the calc-mag levels because magnesium is lacking compared with the calcium - increase magnesium because it is deficient full stop - increase magnesium and calcium because both are lacking, but it's only the magnesium which will help the tics (or maybe both? I don't know) - increase magnesium because there isn't a deficiency, but extra magnesium can help tics, and calcium needs to be increased to maintain the balance I hope that makes sense The trouble is with experimenting with different vitamins and minterals is that it's so expensive! I've just looked at Solgar's L-carnitine and it's between £22 and £41 pounds! If (haha) I did manage to buy any, which type is best? Or do I just get one with four types? I might even risk iherb.com if it's cheap, despite the fact it says 'supplements' on the parcel when they send it (don't want my parents or brother seeing it).
  3. That's what I was hoping B1 might do.When Faith asked me why I wanted B1 separately and I tried to find articles to link to, I could find none and thought I was going mad about the neurological results. That's odd. I'd love to know why that is. I saw a list of the different types of B1 somewhere (e.g. thiamin triphosphate) saying which types were best for what and I cannot find it anywhere now. I want to get the type which would be best neurologically (well, obviously lol).
  4. At the moment, I'm taking: Morning: 100mg magnesium citrate 15mg zinc oxide 30-50mg (can't remember offhand) vitamin C (part of zinc tablet) 1350mg chlorella 1 Candida Clear capsule 25mg vitamin B6 1 capsule Seven Seas Pulse Omega 3 fish oil Around lunch time: 100mg magnesium citrate 15mg zinc oxide 30-50mg (can't remember offhand) vitamin C (part of zinc tablet) 1350mg chlorella 1 Candida Clear capsule Before bed: 100mg magnesium citrate 15mg zinc oxide (I've just got zinc picolinate 22mg, so I may take one of these instead) 30-50mg (can't remember offhand) vitamin C (part of zinc tablet so will not take if using zinc picolinate) 1350mg chlorella 1 Candida Clear capsule 1 acidophilus plus capsule (by Solgar) 25mg vitamin B6 1 capsule Seven Seas Pulse Omega 3 fish oil 500mg taurine Monday before bed: 1 Holland and Barratt B-complex+B12 tablet (but gives me a prickly, itchy feeling - must be niacin) Now bearing in mind my tics aren't all that much better (they are better, but not hugely so), is there much point? Is there something I should add to this? Is there something I should take out? Is there something I should increase/decrease? Any advice, please let me know
  5. I'm taking 300mg magnesium per day at the moment but should I be supplementing this with calcium or is that the whole point in supplementing with magnesium - that the proportions are wrong? I mean, I have milk on my breakfast and milk in the evening (and I'd most likely be getting calcium in the meals). I'm worried that taking calcium as well might cause too much calcium (and calcium deposits in my kidneys). I hope that makes sense lol I'm writing this at work.
  6. Oops, sorry Chemar, you posted while I was typing that message. What are your reasons for supplementing B1? I'm trying to narrow down specific deficiencies if any exist, and then I get confused and find I don't really know what I'm doing
  7. Thanks for that. The reason I want to try it alone and not with a B-complex is because, from what I've read, the B vitamins work together and if there's a deficiency in one, it may cause an imbalance rather than just a deficiency (or an imbalance may cause a deficiency), in which case a B-complex would raise the levels, but not balance them. Also, the fish oil seems to make the tics slightly worse. I have a feeling I heard somewhere that raw fish can lower thiamin (B1) levels. I don't know if this applies to cooked fish or not and I am assuming the fish oil is from cooked fish? B1 is supposed to help the nervous system, but you know, I'm so confused about all the B vitamins that I think I'll just give up lol
  8. What's the best form of folic acid to take? (Sorry for all these questions )
  9. I want to try B1 supplements, but I can only find them in 100mg potency, which is odd as the maximum daily intake is supposed to be 50mg. Can anyone advise me on this please?
  10. I was thinking - maybe fish oil contains some sort of thiamin-depleting substance. I know raw fish can contain it. I can't think what it's called though.
  11. I used to get thirsty very easily and was always very thirsty at school, but for a while now, I don't usually feel thirsty and I often forget to drink because my brain/body isn't telling me I need to. This is apprently called hypodipsia, but there's hardly any information about this anywhere. Has anyone any information about this and has anyone experienced it?
  12. That's okay Chemar, I'll let you off just this once I just interpreted it, that's all
  13. It's great to hear about your daughter! About the B12, most people take very little B12 from supplements, so it will probably be difficult to find tablets in higher potency. mg=milligram = 1000th of a gram = 0.001 grams mcg = µg = millionth of a gram = tenth of a milligram (I think) = 0.0001 grams If she needs 500mg, then she will obtain this from ten 500µg (mcg) tablets/capsules. If you're sure it's supposed to be 500mg? Everything I've read seems to suggest nothing higher than 200mg. Solgar do chewable 1000µg 'nuggets' (suitable for vegans): http://www.solgar.co.uk/modules/shop/view....;Prodcode=E3229
  14. Sorry, I misinterpreted your 'tone of writing' (quite usual for me) Thanks for explaining it. It's a shame it's not more well recognised, because it does explain what I experience so much better than obsessions or mental compulsions.
  15. That sounds like you know who Jones is and that you don't approve of him (her?) calling them mental tics. I don't know who Jones is, but I do like the term mental tics because I do feel there is a difference between these and obsessions/compulsions, albeit an unclear difference. To start with, I think the tic/compulsion divide is more of a continuum where at one end you have the absolutely involuntary tics, and the absolutely 'deliberate' compulsions, with all points in between. Tic-------------x-----------------|---------------x---------------Compulsion Far left: Tics you just can't seem to feel coming and just seem to 'pop out'. Cross on left: At round about this point in the scale, you can feel the tics coming and they just sort of 'come out', but there's some feeling of 'just gotta do it' even though you're doing it anyway. Centre: An example you might find here - which is a typical case of 'tic or compulsion' - is evening up. This is where you feel the need to even something up (e.g. make two things parallel with each other or touch yourself against somthing) which is a need/urge which is fairly conscious but is also often done automatically. Of course, evening up can be more to the left of the centre on the scale or more to the right, but often seems to be somewhere near the middle (or slightly to the right). Cross on right: These are things which you just have to do and you know this, but when you're used to it, it may come automatically, like counting to ten then jumping once after you swtich on a washing machine, but you think about it as you do it. Far right: These are conscious 'deliberate' actions done to satisy your needs/urges. They are not automatic but you need to do them. This is, I think a scale of how automatic things are, in a sense, because tics are like automatic compulsions and compulsions are manually performed tics. It's like OCD and Tourettes comprise the same urges/needs, but it varies as to how automatically the brain wants to go about satisfying those urges. Now, if we apply this to mental compulsions and mental tics, an example of a compulsion would be, for example, to count up to ten to satisfy a non- or less-automatic need or urge or to neutralise something, whereas a mental tic would be automatic/semi-automatic, for example 'ONE-two, one-TWO, three four five, five- SIX, seven, seven eight nine TEN, NINE-ten, nine-TEN' where is happens for less of a 'reason', and more just come out because it comes out or because of a mental or sensory urge which feels different to that of a mental compulsion. I think the distinction between mental tics and mental compulsions is even more blurred than the distinction between motor and vocal tics and compulsion, but I feel there is a difference all the same.
  16. I didn't know Bontech did fish oil.
  17. Oh blast I forget I haven't told anyone what I mean by mental tics lol This might be helpful: http://au.geocities.com/jones_kacm/uwstics.htm I have echomerimnia, copromerimnia, palimerimnia and I mentally manipulate a lot of my phantom tics. I used to also have counting, listing, or reciting tics. They feel like a cross between tics and compulsions and are very difficult to explain. Actually, I do have mental 'grunts' too, so not all mental tics are complex. Here is a video I made to try to simulate mental tics while trying to take in other information (to try to demonstrate how distracting they can be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7v9z7KV6dI
  18. Nothing seemed to be working, except the magnesium seemed to do a tiny bit in helping me to be slightly less irritable (and allowed me to be able to put my hands together symmetrically without mental discomfort lol) Anyway, yesterday, all I took before bed was Candida Clear, acidophilus and chlorella. No magnesium, zinc, taurine*, B6 or C. This morning and at lunchtime, all I took was Candida Clear and chlorella. The tics, although not particularly bad are slightly worse. The motor tics are slightly worse, in particular the eye tics The voal tic is about the same The mental tics are slightly worse The phantom tics are slightly worse My mood is about the same My heart seems to beat too hard with a small amount of activity like it did before I seem to be too hot too easily again which got slightly better recently I feel slightly faint sometimes, which I think I did before I started supplements (maybe heat- or heart-related?) I think I seemed to get confused slightly more easily (I get confused anyway, but it seemed just slightly worse this morning) So...maybe they are doing something after all? *Taurine seems to negatively affect my mood, but not if I take it just before bed (although I don't know if it's doing any good either).
  19. I just wanted to say a special thank you to Chemar - thanks for all the answers you've been giving me (and all of us)! That makes it sound like I'm leaving - I'm not. I just wanted to say thanks for the help and advice and for putting up with endless boring questions! Thanks
  20. Don't you get ALA from flaxseed or fish oil? I was going to use cilantro as well, but I heard that that too draws the toxins from the brain too. By the way, would that be fresh cilantro, dried/powdered cilantro or cilantro in capsule form?
  21. Thanks chemar. Everything I read seemed to state that chlorella was effective when used with such and such pharmaceutical method e.g. EDTA (or whatever it's called lol).
  22. I've been taking three capsules a day of Candida Clear, plus one of acidophilus and I did another home test this morning which was almost clear! I don't *feel* any different though
  23. I've just reaslised - chlorella removes mercury from the gut/bowel, but not from the rest of the system, so surely it's only effective if undergoing 'proper'/full chelation?
  24. I'm going to try one by Seven Seas. I don't know how reputable it is. Solgar do chlorella? I like the Solgar brand and they're sold in a shop near my work. They generally don't use gelatin (although the omega-3 (both fish and flaxseed oils) contain it). I'll have another look to see if they stock it About the contamination, I'd heard that because it binds so well with certain toxins, it was often contaminated while still growing, but I'd also heard somewhere that it wouldn't release that, it would only bind with more mercury, but I wasn't sure. Thanks again EDIT: Just had a look on their website and they contain no gelatin! Yay! I'll visit the shop again. I keep getting funny looks in there because I take *ages* looking round and buying nothing (well, I've bought two things)
  25. Thanks Chemar I would use flexseed, but I've heard it's not as effective because the body has to *make* the omega-3 from it. I'll try the fish oil, wait for it to not work or make my tics worse, and then buy some other product lol ;)
