  1. The day she started the uncontrolling and sever head bobing accompied with the body jerk is when I called the neuro in tears. The nurse practioner is actually the one who suggested it. She said it would help with the head thing. We never expected it to control everything and at this point I do not even care to understand why it works so well for her, but it does. Initially she had a mildly abnormal EEG but after repeating with a second neuro it was not related to any type of seizure activity nor did it have anything to do with her tics. Her 3rd EEG a month ago showed normal so I guess the first neuro was right all along but I really wanted to believe that it was some type of seizure related thing. I guess at least then I would some how feel better in knowing the reason for it all...I don't know. But I am glad I listened to the nurse practioner that day and was desparate enough to have just a teeny weeny bit of an open mind to the med. Topamax is used as a seizure med, weight loss, migraine prevention and tics (movement disorders) When you read the side effects you really have to consider that they are speaking in adult doses. The only thing I like about it I guess is the fact that its the only one that does not have the TD side effect. Wouldn't that be a lovely side effect on top of the tics! Have a great weekend....I am off to rub some olive oil on my BABY SOFT feet!!!
  2. I wanted to do a different post (Hope this is okay) I wonder how many of you seem to forget about yourselves as I did through this the whole tic ordeal? Not to mention the economy and that for many of us pampering is out of the question! I realize how my mood now effected my daughter back then...it probably resulted in more stress for her thus more tics. Remember the ole saying....Look good on the outside...feel good on the inside and then it becomes contagious to everyone around you. So here is a tip for everyone! Pamper yourselves....feel good! OILIVE OIL!!!!!!!!! I LOVE it and have always used it for cooking. Well not anymore! I use Extra Virgin cold pressed..whatever brand is on sale. Put a little on a cotton ball and you have the most AWESOME eye make up remover you ever used. It also works as a make up remover for your whole face! Its WONDERFUL It cleans out pores and makes them invisbile! I use it also as a face mosturizer! I have an oily T-zone but for once it is no longer oily! I stopped getting break outs every month as well. Weekly I do a face scrub....This looks wonderful! I add all natural brown sugar to the olive oli and it looks like I had a facial at a spa! For those who are scared to use straight olive oil (I was in the beginning too) you can mix a tad with your regular face mosturizer. Vaseline on feet with socks at night...UGH I could not STAND IT!! Now I rub olive oil on them and then socks....wake up to baby feeling feet after just a few nights!!!! I rub it in my hair before I step into the shower. I let it sit a bit and then just shampoo and condition as normal....My hair LOVES it and so do I!!!! I place it over my sunblock for a nice bronze look when I am sunbathing. TRY IT!!!! We use natural cleaning products in the home and I have been using the "method brand" I get everything from there right down to our hand soap. Before I discoved them and when I am out of them I used and use baking soda, lemon juice and peroxide to scrub the showers and such. We have very hard water here (even with a water softner) our toilets get stained alot. I pop an alka selzer tablet in the bowl before I get in the shower and let t soak while I shower. After I am done showering I flush the toilet and ring is gone! A pumice can be used to really deep down stains (of course with gloves LOL) Baking soda as well for a tooth brushing once or twice a week! Makes them white a bit too! I will add more later....if any of this is new news to anyone. Here is an awesome dinner to close with: Buy some chicken breast filets (the thin ones) We use the natural antibiotic free ones from Publix. I do not clean them first....Just trim up a bit if needed and then dip them in coconut flour, egglands best organic eggs, then bead crumbs. Cook in coconut oil. YUMMY!!!! To go along with the chicken I get a large baking pan. I cut baby red potatoes in fours and thow them in there, I then add a sliced zuccini in there, some peppers (red and yellow), and asparagus (tips off) If on hand I throw in a sliced squash as well! I pour some hains sunflower oil in there and some black pepper and breadcrumbs. Mix it all together and cook it all together!! You would be surprised at how good this shepard pie type thing is LOL Okay have to run, late as usual .....hope I helped someone even if just a little..... If anyone else has some quick fast recipes or a way to save money...please pass on. I would love to hear it. Especially the dinners!
  3. Abbe I completely forgot something I have been wanting to tell you. We started on topamax at 15mg for around two weeks, we then went to 25mg. After a few weeks or so on this dose we had some minor eye blinking and things. When I reported this to our neuro at our next visit of course they suggested an increase. Foolish as I was back then...I agreed. It was at this time we used the samples given to us which were in the tablet form (we use the sprinkle caps) Anyhow this is the time I reported on the boards that something went VERY wrong with my daughter. It was awful and just memories of how it used to be came back! I was just about to fall apart again. I was trying to figure out what was happening or if the topamax was just not working anymore. I stopped all supplements (she was on a detox program for heavy metals) from a dry blood analysis as well. And I also stopped the increase that we started with the topamax. Within a short time she was back to normal and the eye blinking went away as well as did the little body twitch that was beginning to pop through again. Anyhow I never found out what happened. It could have been the detox supplements, the change from sprinkle caps to tablet form of the topamax (they have different ingredients) or just the increase of dose. I am now quite postive it was the increase in the topamax. I feel we never gave the initial dose long enough to work. This is why I am so strong in words when it comes to the low doses and giving the body time to adjust. We finished the detox after that with no problems and everything has been fine since then. I also used one of our samples in the tablet form for a week and again no changes. It had to have been something with the dose increase in my opinion. Maybe too much of something sometimes can cause negative reactions as well. Just a thought....wish I knew what really happened during that time....but now I just don't care....she is doing so good and we are all so very happy right now. Hope things stay good for you and the taking of the computer won't be as hard on him as you think. Please keep me posted okay Have a great weekend!
  4. Hello and I am so very sorry to hear of your situation. Although these boards have been a godsend thorugh our whole ordeal...they can also at times make me so sad when I read through the posts. Just wondering if you have tried melatonin for your sleep? They usually sell it in 3mg but I would personally cut that tablet in 4 pieces and start at a very low dose. Its all natural. My daughter did acrobats in her sleep! It seemed she never got a peaceful rest in my opinion. It resulted I believe in her mood being so difficult in the mornings. I put her on melatolin for a few months and she actually fell asleep quite peacefully back then. Her mood was also better and she even woke up in the same position she fell asleep in. She would also tic badly even while sleeping. The melatonin worked wonders for her but a high dose would make her wired so start really low if you decide to take it. I stopped the melatonin after a few months and she had been fine ever since. Maybe we re-trained the whole rem mode so to speak. Now we are on a very low dose of topamax to control tics and just a regular multi vitamin (every other day). We also have gone chemical free and make healthy choices as far as eating (except when out or at a party when it seems impossible) My heart goes out to you and I hope you find some relief soon. It seems everyone has success with very different things....Just have to find what works for you....I do know this is challenging and frustrating but hang in there...
  5. hello abbe Glad to hear about your sons improvement on only 15mg! We will be weaning down to 15mg the day after school lets out and then after a week of that we will give none. I really want to see where she is at. I guess my point is that if she is okay off the topamax well then I would rather her not be on it. We will just have to wait and see. Anyhow I do not give her anything (supplements) along with the topamax. We had some issues with certain things a bit back and it was too hard to figure out what was reacting with the topamax and what was not...so I just decided on a regular multi vitamin and give it to her far away from the time she takes her topamax. I also only do the multi every other day instead of everyday. She eats pretty good as well so as long as everything seems to be working I am not changing anything. As far as sickness its funny you ask that because my daugther never got sick alot at all. The doctors always told me as soon as she hit the kindergarden year that would change but it never did. She has had one cold this year and thats rare for her. Her nose gets stuffed more than anything around the same time of the year, I attribute this to allergies and Benedryl takes care of that most of the time until its gone. I was also told that her immune wouldn't be getting stronger if she didn't get sick so it could build and get stronger but so far nothing. She had strep throat once as far as I know of. Three kids in her class had it while in pre-K so this is what flagged me to take her in. It was positive, although she never displayed any symptoms at all. (scary) I was also never sick as a child and rarely get sick now either. I had my very first sinus infection when the cold blew through the South this year. Strangely my daughter has never vomited in her life either. Just one time but it was more like a spit up like from acid reflux than vomit. I too have never vomited aside from younger years when I first explored alcohol LOL So I guess to answer your question, no....when she did have a cold this year it brought on no symptoms as far as tics. Her mood was awful though but I guess everyone is a bit cranky when they are not feeling well. The only thing that pops up once in awhile that related to all the stuff we began with is her sensory issue with clothing. Every once in awhile she will complain that her clothes do not feel right and she gets quite upset. This is short lived unlike before and usually goes away in a short while and she is fine again without having to change clothes like before. We did have her in therapy last year for a few months for sensory issues. But at $350.00 a week we could no longer afford it. Our insurance compnay also canceled her. She is now on a Florida program called CMS in which pays for everything so I have deceided to put her back in the sensory therapy over the summer time when school is out. I just want to make sure the sensory issues do not pop up again down the line and stick around as they were in the beginning. Hope things stay smooth sailing for you after he rids himself of any sickness. I do hear alot about sickness bringing out tics but from what I have also read they usually go away after the sickness is gone. Everyones situation is so different that its hard to tell I guess. Goodluck and I wish you the best. I am so happy with the effect topamax has with her that I am not sure what I would have done if it didn't work. I really would have not chosen any other drug but being that it came to the point in which we needed to consider them I only was okay with topamax after my research and also only at a low dose. If I can help with anything else please let me know, have a great day
  6. CZL....Maybe after you get off the drugs you could try just giving him some melatonin at bed time. Not getting the right amount of sleep or should I say the right quality of sleep (rem mode) may be the cause of the mood issues in the morning. Maybe he is just cranky from being tired? My daughter took melatonin for a very short time and it corrected her restless sleep issues. She was never slept soundly and was all over the bed at night. We stopped the melatonin a short later and she never went back to the way she was. Her mood was indeed better in the morning. She gets up on her own most mornings now and she also falls right to sleep at night after she gets into bed after a nice relaxing shower. Just a thought I had regarding the morning moods. My heart is really going out to you here, your post made my mood go from happy to sad after I read it. Goodluck to you.
  7. CZL....I know every situation is different and because of this I really shouldn't be putting my two cents in here but.....that to me is quite a drug load for a little boy. I can only imagine what they are doing to his brain alone. Guessing that the dose on all them were prescribed by a doctor.....its probably high. My daughter is on topamax (very low dose) and even just some vitamins/supplements taken around the same time can have an effect on the topamax....I would be scared to death to put anything else in the mix. Have you tried diet at all??? and just a good multi with the topamax alone? My opinion just being that anyones state will be altered with a drug mix. I wish you the best and I truly think that weaning off the drugs and changing his diet, adding some mag would make a big difference for him. Everything seems to always get worse before it gets better so please do not get discouraged. I am in shock and just amazed that a doctor would put an 11 year old child on a mix of three drugs. Again I probably do not know what I am talking about nor do I know the situation but the three of them together scares me, not to mention the device you are speaking of. Does your doctor know about the device and is it the same doc who precribed all three meds?? Can you even mix the supplement you are waiting for with the three drugs??? Please be careful and I hope things get better real soon. Maybe everything together is just too much for his system.
  8. Hello to everyone! It seems a bit since I have been able to have computer time. I went back to work in January and its been quite an adjustment period for me to get back in that world again. We are now on Spring break so I am breathing again! LOL House is clean, laundry is done, errands are done, supper is even already prepared waiting in the fridge to be cooked at dinner time. I even did my salad ahead of time today. My daughter is playing nicely with a playmate that is also over the house. So here I sit with my computer for the first time in what seems or feels like FOREVER!!! First off I would TRULY like to aplogize to those of you who have sent me personal messages!!! I am so sorry. I would every once in awhile scroll through the boards late at night but never realized you actually had to be SIGNED IN in order to receive your PM's. I wanted to say hello to everyone and give you an update on my daughter. We are still going strong and are still tic free. We have remained on topamax, but only 25mg. She is 45 pounds and this is a low dose for her weight but my husband and I agreed that we would never increase. Most side effects listed with meds are from adult doses and we have never had any side effects at all. I also met a very nice Doctor. His daughter attends my daughters school and is also in her class. We got to talking a bit back right before I started the topamax and the one thing he told me is that....there always may come a time for meds and that everyones situation and circumstance is different. (He does not vaccinate his children by the way) And this is a DOCTOR! Anyhow we talked for a long while and he told me if I walked away with anything to always remember when it comes to meds....START SLOW AND STAY LOW. He said the first thing people do when they do not see a result is to increase. They never give the body enough time to adjust to the medicine and see the benefits before the doctor orders an increase. I followed his advice when we started the topamax. Everytime we saw the doctor they always wanted to increase!!! But I refused and I am so happy that I never did. We started on topamax at 15mg for 2 weeks and then increased to 25mg and never went up from there. Just when I thought it may not be working....it did and things have been wonderful since. I guess what I am trying to say is that starting meds is a decision that I can only hope that no one would ever have to make. For us it just came down to a quality of life. My daughter was melting away emotionally and so was everyone else in the house. I don't even like to think about that time. We also had to take out a loan just to pay for everything we did back then in order to treat it naturally. The only other thing she takes is a multi vitamin. We were using the xtend life brand and I still use them myself but I recently switched her to the new one out from Mercola. We have and had visited a new neuro. If any of you remember our plan was to come off from topamax to see where she was at and to what degree the tics would come back at. So we have the go ahead now to stop the topamax. My husband and I have deceided to wait until school lets out to do this. She is a VERY happy girl and loves school and I do not want to mess with that just now. Not to mention she just finished with SAT'S and it would have broke my heart to have the severe tics interfere with her tests and her emotions. She is doing EXCELLENT and even seems advanced for her age in school and she is SO excited about starting 1st and 2nd grade! The neuro also told me because we are on such a low dose that there would be no need to wean down and that we could just stop all at once. My husband and I deceided to NOT do this. We are going to divide her cap in half for a week first. I am scared thinking about what might come but also I have hope that the tics will just be gone or at best.....just little minor twitches here and there that will have no effect on her emotionally. If things get bad again, I will ABSOULETELY put her back on topamax without even thinking about it. But only at the dose we have remained on. We still remain as green and pure as possible in this house as well. All our shampoos, soaps, cleaning products, laundry detergents are all natural. I just started using the method brand a few months back and am HOOKED!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THEIR STUFF! As far as food, I buy all fresh and organic when possible. We do though go out to eat and she eats whatever she wants with a little help from Mom in how to pick the most healthy choices available (we love crispers)! The only frozen thing we do once in awhile is frozen pizza. We found a real YUMMY one! We have found all natural fruit snacks, cookies and all at different stores and there is a really good brand called "Annies" everyone MUST try these! We buy them at Target. We eat alot of potatoes and chicken here LOL. Her favorite lunch is just two pieces of bread (nature's own) with shredded lettuce, cucumbers, olives, peppers on it. The food thing for us I guess was easy because we really didn't have to change it that much. The offenders or should I say "KNOWN" offenders were easy to get rid of.......I just STOPPED buying them. You would be surprised what kids can get used to if there is just nothing else availble for the hungry tummy's! Her favorite and drink of choice is water! In my daugters case her tics got so bad she would ask me before she put anything in her mouth! She would say will this make them come back??? In the beginning she even refused ice-cream. Tuff little thing for a 5 year old. We are not sure if the healthy decisions as far as food and products also have an effect on her tics going away but it wouldn't matter, its just a way of life for us and pretty much has always been. I dislike all the YUCKY stuff in food these days and always have. I am just not so sure it had any effect on her tics at all. Don't get me wrong....the healthier choices we make will make us healthier there's no doubt about that but my daughter never ate the junk before her tics came and they came anyhow. When we went on vacation one time when her tics were at the worst.....they all disapeared!!!!!!!!!!! for the whole vacation! We even talked about moving at one point. This was also ironically the worst she ever ate in her life! Who knows what we were really eating at all those fast food places! I know there can be a sensitivity to some foods but I do have to say that when I was younger my MOm (the health freak) had me tested for allergies (food and all) and the list of what I tested positive for was too overwhleming for even my Mom. I know there is more junk in the foods these days but she never elminated anything from my diet and I still eat all the foods that I tested sensitive to. I am sure we all get a little bloated and gassy...thats the food! I can actually tell when I have ate something that I am sensitve to because of the digestive part....but I eat it anyhow LOL Green peppers and eggs are a big one for me, but I just don't eat them everyday. So I guess even the healthy food can cause some problems. Maybe just everything in moderation is best. (But leave out the chemical junk) I sure hope everyone is doing great and I wish gods speed to those who may need it. As always....you are ALL in my prayers.
  9. Thanks for the info! I think I may just have to go back to amazon and pick up that book. Seems like it may touch home too much and send me over the cliff for a bit until I recover..... Thats also a serious drug YIKES. The possible TD would scare me to death....I have seen enough jerks and movements to last me a lifetime. If topamax had a chance of causing it....I would have never agreed. For some reason the TD thing bothered me the most...maybe because its so closely related to what we were trying to fix in the first place. Thanks again......my daughter sees a new neuro on March 18th.....this ought to be interesting.....(New Neuro again for Health Insurance) Now we have to start all over yet again!!!! Never know though, may be a blessing in disguise...(high hopes huh?) I do want to come off from topamax and we will if we get the okay when school lets out. Wish us luck..... Hope all is well with you and your daughter.
  10. What is risperdal?? Is this a tic med?? Never heaed of it...thats why I am asking. Wondering if I missed something??? As far as side effects: I believe everyone has different ones.....my daughter never tired on clonidine but a very very low percentage of people reported nightmares.....We were in that percentage......
  11. San70, No it never ever made her sleepy (but sometimes I secretly wished it would) LOL She has MORE energy than should be allowed!!!! SO I love bedtime
  12. betty04...Hello! Here is the site where I got the magnesium: http://www.ionicmagnesium.com/ I purchased the first one shown as you start to scroll down, its item#309. The dose calls for two tablespoons. This I believe was the adult dose, so I gave her half that. (1 tablesppon) After I was sure it did not have the effect you mentioned I upped it to the full 2 tablespoons but only every other day. So one day I would give her the 1 tablespoon and the next day the two tablespoon and then back to 1 tablespoon etc..... When her tics were in overdrive I just did the two tablespoons daily until they calmed down. I guess the best way is to start at the half dose and then work up slowly. I take it now daily or at least every other day. My daughter is on topamax so her tics are not an issue but I still give her some everyonce in awhile if we have a week in which we didn't seem to have any mag food source. If your daughter likes almonds or sunflower seeds...they have mag in them. Goodluck and if you try I hope you get the results you are after. It does have vit. C in there as well. Lastly, no odor, no color, no taste she'll never know its in there.
  13. Okay THANKS EVERYONE! She has only another day on the antibiotic and then she is done. I feel better now knowing that the 250mg is okay for her. Guess I will give the probiotic in the morning then. She has lunch at school so I can't give it to her then. She takes the antibiotic at 8pm so there is way more than 3 hours there and so thats good. I found out today that 2 of her classmates have been diagnosed with the flu!!!!! Had the same symptoms as my daughter. Funny how they said their doctor did a flu test on them. When we went my daughters temp was 101 (it had come down a bit) and I guess I would think they should have checked her for flu (was not aware of a flu test). Her other complaint was her head hurting (headache). She seems perfectly fine tonight. Running around like her busy ole self. Although her nose is still plugged and she has started a dry cough. Her complexion is off and she looks as though she has bags under her eyes. In other words...looks like someone who is just not feeling well....but at the same time she is acting fine and she feels warm but no fever. I will keep an eye on her and if another fever hits I think I will go back in and insist on this test. I will keep my fingers crossed that it does not turn into the flu. No one in our family ever had the flu before UGH!!!! Thanks again everyone!!! PS) OH...day two with no probiotics and I am back to my normal self again! (If you know what I mean) LOL
  14. I wrote in a few weeks back to report that my daughter was diagosed with her first sinus infection. She usually gets Azithromycin (she is allergic to penicillin) but we always have an issue with getting her to swallow the liquid. So I had asked for a pill form antibiotic. She was given smz/tmp. I never got a chance to write back in on the board (just started working again) but after three days on this antibiotic she started eye blinking REALLY bad! I researched the heavy duty antibiotic and found it to be a sulfa antibiotic. I stopped it immediately and two days later the blinking stopped. I never went in for another antibiotic only because she was better and sinus infections do clear on their own. If it had been anything else I would have went in for another script. (just want to clarify that, I really am not a bad Mom, and I know its important to finish the whole course, but to me this was okay given the circumstances) Anyhow the weather here in Florida did another RECORD BREAKING drop, my daughters nose started again and by Sunday night she just seemed to go downhill quickly. I gave her sudafed (sinus) and she kept waking up throughout the night saying that she felt dizzy and that she may get sick. This morning she missed her first day of school in 3 years!!! Her choice no less!!!! She was very warm and looked pale and of course the clogged nose sounded like it did before when it stayed for almost two weeks. I called at school today and was told that 6 of the 10 kids in her class were out sick with fever and vomiting. I thought I better had take her back in so I did tonight. I explained to the doctor (it was a different one) about how we never finished the lastest round of anitbiotics and why....of course NEVER heard of tics but the nurse practioner said that alot of people have a reaction to sulfa containing drugs. She deceided after she checked her out to put her on a new script and see that she takes it the full term. I guess to be sure that the sinus infection was fully gone. When I explained about my daughter not wanting to take the liquid no matter what we do she prescribed Azith in a pill form for her. She takes 1 pill a day for 3 days at 250mg each. The guideline for her weight (45 pounds) is 200mg Do all of you think its okay that she is 50mg past the guidelines???? We do not have alot of experience with antibiotics, I believe she has only been on them 5 or 6 times. She is 6. Also I want to give her probiotics while on this but am not quite sure as to how far apart I should spread the antibiotic and the probitoic??? Do you wait a few hours afterward the antibiotic? She took her antibiotic at 8pm tonight and will do the same for the next two pills. So will the morning be okay to give the probiotic? or should I wait until she gets out of school?? Sorry always so long......I have gone back to work (first time since I became pregnant)! In other words I have been so tired and of course busy! I miss the nights I used to spend on here reading. Now I have to sleep!
  15. I am going to guess it is INDEED the probiotics. I have taken the Natural Calm before along with my daughter (I used to try everything with her) and it never gave me anything like this! LOL I did NOT take a probiotic since yesterday and things semm to be slowing down LOL I just started back to work after the new year and I will tell you that I thought I was going to EXPLODE today at work. I couldn't even hide that stuff in the bathroom LOL The whole buiding would have needed air freshners. Then again it probably would have been blamed on one of the guys (for it was THAT BAD) I guess maybe I will just let this brand expire in the garbage! I will wait a bit before I try the second brand and also may invest in yet another air purifier for my home.
  16. Hello SAn70, When we were using the magnesium...we tried natural calm the brand from Peter something??? Then we tried a brand by cardio vasular called mag/taurate. We ended up sticking with a final kind that worked best for us. It was an ionic magnesium (liquid form, no color, no taste) you can put it in anything. If you have been reading through the boards you probably already know that what works for one does not always work for another. Sometimes I felt it was all trial and error, like a guessing game until you found what worked. I am sure others will chime in soon with replies with their thoughts and maybe ideas.... Best of luck to you...its a long and quite often heart wrenching road...it was for us at least.
  17. I spent a TON of money on all the supplements, magnesium etc before we resorted to topamax for my daughter. Anyhow right now she gets nothing other than eating healthy...TOO scared to put anything else in the mix right now. I was doing some cleaning out of our OVER STUFFED supplement cabinet and decided to at least get some of our money worth and start using some of them for myself before they all expire. I started just with the probotics and magnesium....just a few times on the magnesium but everyday with the probiotics (just one a day) And my question is....well I am quite embarrased here but.....I all of a sudden have been having terrible gas! I am not talking pains or anything but the aroma is so bad I try to get away from my own self!!! So sorry for the lack of better wording while on this subjest LOL I was on a three day course of Zpak for a sinus infection. I started the probiotics about a week later. My daughter also had a bout with the gas...in her case the problem was that she just could stop farting! It was quite funny here a bit with her. She was also on antibiotic for a sinus infection as well. Can anyone tell me if this flatulence could be caused by the probiotics and why???? I am laughing so hard and again so sorry to ask but its really driving us crazy! Hope everyone is doing well.....
  18. Hello, My daughter was on clonidine for a short time. She started to experience bad nightmares which unfortunately I was told was a side effect from her neuro. Her blood pressure also was reading so low it scared me to death. Anyhow of course that is not why I am writing.....(we are currently taking topamax with great success) I just wanted to tell you that my daughter HAD to have the clonidine ONLY at bedtime. We tried to split the dose for am/pm but she could not stay awake. So after we gave her the full dose again only at bedtime...she was fine. That stuff can really knock you out! Especially the little bodies.
  19. Well I was hoping more people had some info or comments on the antibiotic my daughter is on. Anyhow I think I should throw her a probiotic......she is on the antibiotic for 10 days.....what do you all think???
  20. My daughter has been doing so well lately that I am scared to death to add anything to her topamax, in fear we would have a reaction like after we started the fish oil and things. Anyhow I have been thinking lately that I really would feel better if she at least had a multivitamin everyday. Has anyone had luck with one in which it didn't aggravate things?? Its so hard because some of the ingredients in some are known as offenders from many on this board. Any luck anyone???? I do have the Rainbow Light Nutri Stars Multivitamin & Multimineral Chewables, Children's, Tablets on hand but am scared to try Any suggestions or comments.
  21. Hello Betty04 and thanks for your reply. The last time she had a antibiotic it was zith (liquid form) thats is where we had problems. We are not on antibiotics long term (never have been) This time around is for a sinus infection that just would not clear on its own. I asked for a pill form antibiotic. She has no problem swallowing pills at all. We did get a pill form but I have never heard of the anitbiotic before and didn't like what I read about it lastnight. Although they were adult reviews... I just wanted to know if anyone had any info or experience with this particular antibiotic. I hate trying new things I am always scared. Have a great day
  22. Okay let me start by saying that the BIG SUNSHINE state is not so sunny lately!!!! Its literally FREEZING here!!!! Of course my daughter came down with a stuffed nose, then it hit me, then my husband. We hardly ever have to visit the doctor for sickness but after our noses would not clear and we could continue to blow them all day....we all went into a clinic tonight. All three of us were precribed an antibiotic for sinus infections. I was given Zpac (sure I spelled that wrong, but I never take antibiotics so do not know their names well) But its one pill for 3 days at 500mg each. My daughter is allergic to Penicillin so when she needs an antibiotic she usually gets a liquid zythromax (sure I spelled that wrong too) She would have to take that for I think 5 days if I remember correcly. The problem we always had with that is the taste was awful for her no matter what we put it in! She would usually spit some out and lets just say it was an awful 5 days for all of us here. So tonight I asked if it was possible for her to have an antibiotic in a pill form that she could just take with water and swallow. So the doc at the clinic prescribed SMZ/TMP regular strength tabs 20. Anyone heard of this, I have done some research and do not like what I have read but I can only find comments from users who were on 800-1200. In other words just adult doses. It seems to cover quite alot of bacterial infections and also is like two antiobiotics in one. It seems to also be used as an antibitoic to prevent as well. Read a bit just now and kind of got overwhelmed....anyone have any thoughts or history with it??? I would really appreciate your input. I hate taking something new....now I have to put on my eagle eyes and watch her to see if we have a reaction or a bad side effect like we did with the penicillin. She has to take it for 10 days and 2x each day. This is probably the 5th or 6th time she has ever been on antibiotics in her life, she just turned 6 in September. Also was told to give the behind the counter childrens sudafed to help with the stuffed nose. We have been using afrin becasuse nothing else has helped. We tried the neti pot, sinutat and everything! Lastly I double checked and called two pharmacies to see if her being on topamax is okay to add the antibiotic and sudafed. All said okay. The sudafed actually worked! I just hate giving the medicine though. It has dye in it! YUK But she really needed relief, the poor thing. Just worried about this antibiotic and what I read...........HELP! Maybe I will call and try to change it....I don't know what to do...
  23. So sorry you are at this point. I know all too well when it comes time to think about medicine. We started on topamax (its actually a seizure med) 25mg 1x day (before bed). No one can explain to me in a way I understand anyhow, how it took the tics away. But they are gone and I just do not want to ever see her like that again. In the end she cried everyday and told me that I did not love her because I wasn't helping her. Tore my heart out and that point. I guess I would say the tics always bothered me more than her but when they started to bother her.....I couldn't take it anymore. It did get severe for her with the head Bobbing and Body jerk. Goodluck in your decision and I do know its a hard one. Quality of life is what we needed. One thing when it comes to meds.....Start slow and Stay Low.....
  24. Hello Faith, I was just curious as to if he was ever evaluated for any kind of sensory issues? Also so sorry that you are having a difficult time right now and I hope it passes/improves quickly.
  25. Just wanted to wish you the best results.....I'll be praying for you....
