Hi Pam, I did a cleanse a couple years ago.....the brand was Wild Rose. I'm not sure though if it was strictly a colon cleanse or a GI cleanse or what..............maybe they all fall under the same category i don't know. This one had a list of foods to avoid and foods that were OK (for 15 days), as well as take a few pills/liquid drops each day. I was not aware of any improvement in my tics though I wasn't really thinking about that at the time. I was just trying to get rid of excess crap (no pun intended) in my system. but i do agree with Faith.......i'm not sure I'd want to try it on a child.....this particular one was quite harsh. I'd say try the mineral oil as well. Nadine

Had anyone ever tried Cell Food as a supp? Just wondering how it is. It was suggested to me by my friend's father who performed a type of Biofeedback on my earlier this month. I say "a type of Biofeedback" b/c apparently it isn't really Biofeedback. The machine is called an Xrroid and when I googled it, the first hit that came up was quackwatch.org I shouldn't have read it cuz now I wonder if I just got scammed. It sounds pretty controversial. Anyway, after doing that, he suggested Cell Food and a product called Juva Cleanse for heavy metals. As well as a Fish Oil from a "deep ocean" source. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Nadine

I did a forum search for biofeedback and now am thoroughly confused. I have a friend whose father is a CN, herbalist, reflexologist, etc... I made an appt to see him and his secretary told me that the "machine he hooks you up to" (This is how it was described by another friend of mine who saw him) is called BIOFEEDBACK. she said it performs around 9000 tests in about 90 min. But from what i've been reading here, i'm under the impression that biofeedback is more of a "brain training" exercise??? Am i confused or what? I was excited b/c the way his secretary described it, it sounded like he could find all sorts of underlying issues using this technique. if anyone can explain this therapy to me in layman's terms, i'd appreciate it greatly. thanks, nadine

Carolyn, I'm just wondering if your tics increase when you use something with coconut or is it just the skin reaction? How did you discover this allergy? Was it when you were a child or just recently?

i've been searching on iherb.com for some Pantothenic acid. Most of them say keep out of reach of children. Do you think it'd be safe to give a 4 yo this supplement? Thank you Chemar for all your responses.....I feel like I'm learning so much.

My daughter and myself both grind our teeth. She just started doing this in the last two weeks or so. I notice it is especially intense after she eats specific things......one I noticed was an apple and once a peach. the last few nights immediately after brushing her teeth, she grinded really hard too. Could it be something in these foods and/or toothpaste? I know after I brush my teeth, i feel the need to grind and do a couple other tics also. It's like my teeth feel "slippery" (best word i could think of) and i feel like grinding them. I wonder if it's a SID thing. I think I've read a few other posts about teeth grindng and giving Pantothenic Acid (B5) works. If I myself am already taking a Bcomplex would an extra B5 be OK? how about for a 4 yo......does B5 come in a form she'd be able to take? she can't swallow pills. Any insight on teeth grinding would be appreciated as well as any success you've all had to alleviate it. Thanks! Nadine

did i read somewhere on here that when choosing a fish oil supp, one should ONLY look for Omega 3 and NOT Omega 6? If I'm not imagining I read that, what is the reasoning for it? Can anyone recommend a good one for children. (4yo) Right now i have Nature's Bounty brand (for adults) but i see it says both omega 3 and 6 on the bottle. Should i try thay myself or look for an omega 3 type only? Thank you!

Environmental Physician referal
powerofprayer replied to mblack's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi again mblack, i'm just wondering if this dr you'll be seeing has experience working with tics/TS? Doyou know what sort of testing will be done over that two day period? I'm just curious since I'm still going back and forth on whether an environmental dr or an integrative dr will be a better choice.........probably in the end it just depends on the individual. Environmental Physician referal
powerofprayer replied to mblack's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi mblack, Just wondering if you've tried a search for an integrative physician in your area. the website is www.acam.org I havent' yet seen one of these drs but if the neurologist visit next week is unhelpful, I'm going to try. Welcome to latitudes......you will find strength and encouragement here! -
I am happy I can FINALLY reply to something and can be of assistance (hopefully) I always feel "guilty" for soooo many questions and never contributing suggestions.......hopefully one day, with more experience, I can do that more often. Anyway, Bmom, my youngest daughter (2 yo) recently was on amox for an ear infection. her ped DID say a probiotic would be a good idea. Hope i've helped you a bit anyway. Nadine

Intradermal skin testing
powerofprayer replied to powerofprayer's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Carolyn, Andy, and Faith thank you for your replies. You've given me alot to think about. I DO need to find out how accurate these results are before I put her through this. I wonder if they would consider sedating her a bit. I mean she SCREAMS bloody murder with needles. When i took her for the strep titer blood test, it was awful. Thank God that one was quick. From what i understand with the skin testing though, it can take a while.....like 30-40 minutes. I'm not sure if they test for food allergies, but for sure they do inhalants. Faith, where did you go for the IgG blood testing? Was it the alcat or one of the others discussed on this forum? Like Andy said, I am considering this just to start ruling out (or confirming) causes for the tics. I suspected allergies to something in the air, and today she had a REALLY BAD episode, probably her worst ever. Her blinking/clenching/grinding teeth was SOOOOO intense, it absolutely broke my heart. she even whined a little about it hurting her which hurt me even more. I gave her Benadryl thinking that if it was allergy related, it would provide some relief. But i think it may have even gotten worse......defintiely NOT better though. Now i don't know what to think. I've looked at her food journal for the last few days and i don't see anything suspect in there. Well maybe a bit of "blue" juice she had at church but it was such a tiny bit that i wouldn't think the reaction would be so huge and so prolonged. Anyway, I'm babbling......thank you for listening! -
Has anyone ever done the intradermal skin testing for allergies? It seems that it was here I read about it. I'm just wondering how uncomfortable/painful it is. Our pediatrician (I really LIKE her......she is open to some of the more alternative testing even though she admits this is out of her realm of knowledge) thinks it wouldn't hurt to send my 4 yo to an allergist. All of the allergists in town tend to do the intradermal testing. My daughter HATES ALL drs and procedures. Is this a test that could give me insight or is the IgG one better? I also have to weigh in cost........this intradermal will be covered by myinsurance but I doubt the IgG would. Any input would be appreciated!! Thanks, Nadine

Kim, i would also like that info mentioned above. You can just PM me when you have a minute.....no real hurry! Thank you!

I dunno if this is what you're wondering about CP, but my own vocal tic gets much worse when I'm on the phone.............but only if I'm talking to my own family! What the......? Does that seem off the wall or what? I mean I love talking to my folks but I wouldn't say i get EXCITED!

Ahhhhh the ol' bucket theory.......never heard of it, BUT it does make sense. Thank you Allison for explaining......i DID understand that. Now in your son's case it was the infection that made that bucket overflow.....so do I have to pinpoint something in my daughter's case to fully understand and help her the best I can? I will have to look for that book, thank you Chemar!

If my daughter has a sensitivity to artificial colors how long would it be before I noticed an increase in tics? Maybe this is too difficult to answer b/c every child is different? I've just always wondered AND yesterday afternoon we were at a festival and she saw cotton candy! I didn't want her to have any, but my hubby's like, "Oh let her be a kid!" I've been hearing that alot lately. So i gave in and sort of expected her to increase in tics right away, but she didn't. Today I think I have noticed a bit more though. And another question I've been pondering........what makes tics emerge when they do? Like, if they are occurring b/c of something environemntal or and allergy, why didnt' they happen sooner? Am i making sense? Probably not I just wonder IF she is senstitive to additives.......why did the tics just show up a month ago. Why not when she first started eating these foods? Is there a scientific explanation for this that anyone can share? Thanks again for all the valuable input! Nadine

I am ready to try my 4 yo on the magnesium supplement. After seeing a big decrease in her tics over the last two weeks, today they are back up. I've looked at the food journal i've been keeping and there's nothing on there that she hasn't had before. I've seen many references on here to both "kids calm" and "natural calm" Are they the same product? Are these in liquid form or something i ahve to mix? And where do I find it? Thanks a bunch for the info!!
-
Faith, I agree with Jeff......for me I get that strong urge and it's like a tension release when I do the tic. However sometimes for me, a tic will "just happen" and I hadn't even felt it coming on. And yet other times, if I've had a "calm" period, suddenly it'll enter my mind that I haven't "ticced" in a while so I'd better do something ( a tic) even though I didn't get that "urge". It happens cuz I was thinking about it......that's what i think. I'm sure this sounds totally off the wall. Can anyone relate?

Quirkster, i've just read your post and I don't really have any words of advice since i'm not real familiar with OCD (I usually hang out on the TS/tics board. Having a tic disorder myself, I understand what it's like to feel different in this world! Please try to remember that God doesn't give us any more than we can handle.....He will bring you through this......and you will be stronger in the end! I know you will find a way to live with OCD......it will take time. Search online for possible treatments.....I know the tourettes syndrome board has a WEALTH of infomation. I would continue with the CBT if you feel it's worked in the past, and perhaps your whole family could attend counseling sessions on how to deal with your OCD in a more positive manner. Just my humble opinion. For now, please know that I am saying a prayer for you as i'm writing this! I pray God gives you strength and leads you down the path to find some answers.

Anyone still keeps a daily log?
powerofprayer replied to patty's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
WOW.....that takes dedication to journal everything for a year. I'm still pretty new....my daughter started a facial tic about 4 weeks ago (4 yo) I also have had tics most of my life but I've never done anything about them. Now, after reading this forum, I've started logging things. I keep it pretty simple.....I just write down everything she eats/drinks for the day and sometimes her activities as well. Then just briefly i'll make a note of how her tics seemed that day....like were there any "new" ones, or how often they occurred, intensity, etc... I do the same for myself.....just trying to see If i can find a pattern. Also i thought it might be helpful once we see a dr to guide us. Logging/journaling is a good idea i think.....maybe you can just cut it down so it doesn't take so long everyday? -
I just wanted to re-iterate what Jeff said. When I first found this website, Jeff's post about artificial colors was the first one I read. I thought that sounded easy enough to try. I have seen at least a 50% decrease in my daughter's tics (which began just 4 weeks ago....she's 4yo) I have been trying to eliminate anything with the "red", "blue" and "yellow" since about May 8. I do have a question about "natural flavors". sometimes it just says that in the ingredient list.........is that OK to give? I'm wondering what else I could try to see an even bigger decrease in her tics? I haven't done the Kid's Calm yet........should I? Or a good mulit-vitamin? Eliminating the arificial colors hasn't seemed to have an effect on my own tics though. I've started a B-100 complex, but I haven't seen any difference there either. What are some of you adults with TS taking as supplements. I was in the health food store today and it was so overwhelming just looking at all the magnesium options there are Open to any suggestions, Nadine

thanks CP for the mag info. I had read an earlier post of yours describing the lab tests. You had mentioned three different labs. So your son's environmental dr ordered the tests from these three different labs? Why can't ONE lab do it all? Did you go to this dr armed with the information on different tests or was he/she really knowledgable in what tests to order?

A couple questions about supplements.........can a person have TOO MUCH magnesium? i worry that if my daughter's magnesium is fine, could I harm her by giving the Kid's Calm? Also, do I have to do something special with Calcium...it seems i read that somewhere but can't find it now. Also I started a B complex for myself today. I haven't seen any envrionmental drs yet regarding my defiencies, if any. Any recommendations on whether i should start supplementing myself to see if i notice a change in my own tics. Or could it be dangerous w/o professional guidance? Oh also a question about all the lab tests......am i understanding correctly.....do i order the ones I think might give me some insight online and then take them to any lab here and they'll draw the blood and send it off. Is that how these work? Thanks........you all have been a wealth of new knowledge for me.

Can chicken pox booster be a trigger?
powerofprayer replied to skyler's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Kim, I had the chicken pso naturally at about 6 years of age. Can't remember when I started ticcing but my earlilest memory was probably around 10 or 11. (vocal and motor) I've gotten shingles TWICE during adulthood (i'm only 36).....once at age 30 and again at age 35. Doctors told me it flared cuz of stress. -
ASO negative....now what?
powerofprayer replied to powerofprayer's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Hi Lukesmom Well we did an ASO titer (blood test) which i had never heard of until this forum. I had heard of the antiDNAse too....don't know if that's necessary too to completely rule out PANDAs. The ASO came back and it just said her ASO was <25 and in range. then it says = negative strep. so i don't know if they jsut measured strep or antibodies as well. is it possible to have antibodies floatiing around in there w/o strep??
