  1. but there is also the limit to the overall amount you can deduct as a medical expense. You may want to know that limit before you start keeping track of expenses -- it may not be worth it.
  2. Lauren's Mom, the recent post that has from the trench in the title refers to Rituxan. you can -- I am saying this because you are new to the forum -- send a message directly to the post's author and ask for her experience.
  3. two different articles http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2936686/Is-depression-caused-inflammation-Study-lead-new-treatments.html http://www.prevention.com/health/health-concerns/link-between-inflammation-pain-and-depression
  4. it really depends what you want to achieve. Align is recommended when you want to rebuild stomach flora. Celiacs are supposed to use it every day. we use three different on rotating basis, including Culturelle, bifidus, and Puritan's Pride Acidophiles.
  5. you can use NIH, suggest that this is a new way of thinking about some cases of OCD. refer to Yale PANDAS study and Harvard which is opening PANDAS clinic at the MGH and Stanford which already has one.
  6. you are forgetting one thing in your formula, sudden onset. when you do add that, you can go to symptom scale which will then serve your purpose. and you don't need the formula you are looking for -- if I understand your question correctly. sudden onset = infection. now, you do blood work to figure out which treatment you need.
  7. we saw some of those symptoms for a short period of time, on several occasions, during, of course, exacerbation. they came abruptly and disappeared as quickly. as you have the post, it is hard to say what these behaviors are symptoms of. it could be pandas/pans, as in our case, but it could be something else, too.
  8. i see. in your place, I would focus on finding the right dr willing to treat and not on the C - test. C -test might be one way to get there, of course. But, it may come negative. AND it may be inconclusive. in either case, you will not have the proof that you are seeking and will not be able to convince your dr. So, In your place, I would change the strategy. Present NIH findings to your local dr -- there was a post about that a few months back. NIH has web info page about pandas with detailed recommendation for local pedis on how to diagnose and how to treat. We are no longer in the Middle Ages PAndas wise. Also, make a post about drs in WA. there may be some. And, make a post specifically about C test just to see other experiences with it. good luck
  9. "he premise is that Neurological Auto-immune syndromes occurs because of the following factors : vitamin d deficiencies, problem with enzyme making methatetrahydratefolate, and probs with dopamine levels; " it is impossible to say if these are causes really. they are side-effects and contributing factors. improving them should improve overall well-being but cure you? probably not. it's likely that genes are a part of the picture too -- does he address those?
  10. Do your child get Tamiflu and what was the reaction? any negative side effects? Any neuro-psychiatric side effects? thanks!
  11. it is a condition. your child, if it is going to be only pediatric, may outgrow it. is he/she going to be completely w/out symptoms? My guess is no because you are dealing with an autoimmune condition. Immune system may mature but it will remain prone to autoimmune issues -- that's at least how I understand it. it is best to start abx early. after two years, you seem to know what you are doing and can manage w/out them. I would have a plan in case it all goes south again and count my blessings. usually, in the later stages, CBT is helpful with outbursts and other behavioral issues.
  12. it is a complex study and is done on rats but that is the indication, that, paradoxically, ssri-s may lead to depression later in life. apparently, brain cannot distinguish btw a trauma and its opposite, bonding. here is the report http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/288170.php
  13. if he is her patient, while you look for other options, would showing up in her office and going as far as threatening legal action help? I would do it without second thoughts, politely but firmly. you really don't have that many other options.
  14. i have to say I lost you. what is the issue you are pondering? if there is a chance that your dr would treat if Cunningham's is positive, I would do spend the money. this is a very expensive condition and if C is positive, you will have all other expenses covered by your insurance. the problem here is, of course, what if it is negative? why does your dr present C as definitive? does he/she? there are many other tests that can indicate PANS.
  15. good find, Kim. I think the two studies suggest the mechanism ia flu vaccine can result in an unwanted, overwhelming production of CD4 T cells. If the first study can be translated to humans and if the second study shows that flu vaccines promotes CD4 T but not CD8 T, then indication is that flu vaccine can cause unwanted inflammation. Brava! now, the reason flue vaccine does not result in an overwhelming inflammation seems obvious because the number of CD4 T cells that is produced is not huge as the flue virus is not introduce in high numbers and does not get to provoke strong infection.
  16. Yes, that is what I meant. Blood testing to see if there are any auto antibodies. Can you get blood tested without a doctor's approval? When I first brought it up to the pediatrician 2 weeks ago, she asked me to wait till the neurologist appt. on the 20th and let them determine if she needs that. My gut says I need the blood testing done. I have never had her blood tested whatsoever since she was a baby, during the first 3 months for serious ailments, and that is about all she has had done on the blood testing front. if you want to get her tested, make sure to go to the apt prepared. make your case that this is Pans like auto-immune reaction. argue that you want to rule it out, if nothing else. (this if the neurologist is not PANS friendly) point to family history -- tics run in families as do autoimmune conditions. have a list of blood tests you want performed ready.
  17. so you have sudden onset of tics but no other symptoms. i'd go with that. "I will get her tested and see if she is deficient on any front." -- do you mean cognitively? I am not sure you need this. Cognitive impairment is usually obvious -- like kids who were excellent in math suddenly can't do basic addition, heand-writing skill disappears, and alike. i would suggest doing comprehensive blood work for any auto-anti bodies. Again, I am not convinced this is PANS. have you consulted tic forum?
  18. perhaps I am tired and did not read sriramcs's post carefully enough. is the neck movement the only symptom? if it is, it may not be PANS. Pans usually comes with a few symptoms at the same time. how about frequent urination? separation anxiety? ocd in any form?
  19. i understand the impulse completely. if you do transition her, I would make sure to have a way of getting her back on abx just in case you need to do that. why not try herbals and abx at the same time? abx have not only profliactic but also anti-inflammatory effects and help regulate, if I understand this one, glutamate.
  20. why are you beginning to think that she should go off abx? we had the same idea with both kids last spring after a year and a half. we learned quickly, it was a bad idea. our conservative mgh drs have no problem with our kids being on abx for few more years. long term abx in small doses, apparently, are not considered a big deal in medical community -- as long as you give probiotics on daily basis. long term abx has been a standard procedure for rheumatic fever for decades now. in your place, i would make sure to have a sound strategy before stopping abx.
  21. virus as well, not just different bacteria. because PANS is a symptom provoked by an auto-immune reaction. strep is only the most well known trigger.
  22. i am inclined to believe that flu vaccine triggered our dd's pandas. i, however, don't see that the document from the previous post by rowingmom shows that vaccine caused autism. perhaps i just don't understand what I am reading. it seems to me that these were reported incidences, and not something that scientists proved than hid. rowingmom -- do you have different interpretation?
  23. you ought to consider the seriousness of the effect that your child's condition has on you and even perhaps the possibility that you too have a form of PANDAS/Pans. in our family, all four of us have psychiatric and autoimmune issues and are trying to help each according to what they need. i do not, however, agree with your husband except in the sense that your pandas child should have consequences and should be allowed but limited screen time after all other responsibilities have been met. limits should be clear.
  24. please, tell us how the apt with Jolan Walters goes. i do agree with previous posts, your kid seems to have a PANS like reaction.
  25. glad to hear about the improvement. how old is your son? i hope this case will suggest a course of treatment to some older patients on this forum who seem to have run of options.
