I am a newbie on this board, still trying to find my way around here. I am not sure how to find your email address without having you post it on the board. Do you know how to find my email address? If not, i will try to find out soon. Thx for sharing so much info with me. I feel like everyday i am getting closer to figuring out how to treat my son's tics. patty

Julie, Thx for sharing the NAET treatment info. It is so encouraging to know other people have benefited from it. I have not given up on NAET yet. Is just that with my son in school now, it is so much harder to do NAET treatments. Food is everywhere! As you said, I would like to treat his environmental allergies before I move on to other treatment plan. Will you talk to your NAET dr. anytime soon? I would love to know the 7 underlying trigger for TS or tics. Or can I have your NAET dr.'s name and phone number. I would love to consult her on a few things before going forward with our NAET treatments. It is so hard to find a dr. who has direct experience in this area. patty

Carlyn, Have you consider using NAET to decentize your various allergies? My son was treated for egg, chicken, brown rice, white rice, wheat, gluten, oat, oat bran, milk, yogurt, butter and casein this summer. His nasal allergy is better but not completely gone. He has been eating less wheat and dairy and we started eating mostly organic food as much as possible. So I am not sure if NAET is the major contributing factor. I am taking a break from the NAET treatment becuz while my son was taking homepathic medicine to detox and probiotic while getting NAET treatments, he had more symptoms. So I decided to stop everything and reevaluate his treatment plan. According to some of the positive comments from people on this board, you may want to consider it. I was attracted to NAET becuz it is noninvasion and it will allow you to have the allergic food once it is decentized in moderation. Since you have a number of allergic foods, how do you deal with the eating out aspect? Since we found out about my son's food sensitivites, we only ate out maybe 3x in the last 6 months. It has been really hard, especially at birthday parties or get together. patty

With Holloween and the holiday approaching, does anyone out there know where I can get candy without artifical flavor and coloring?
-
Do you know if these people with TS and allergies have decreased in symptoms after NAET? My son also has environmental allergy, since we treated wheat & dairy, his nasal allergy seem to improve but not completely gone. But at the same time, we also eat less wheat & dairy, started to eat organic food as much as we possible. So I am not so sure if NAET treatment is the major contributing factor.

1. 1 Cup Sweet Rice Flour ( i used to get this from Trader Joe, but they have recently discountinued it but i have sure you can get it at your local health food store) 2. 1 Tbsp sugar ( substitue with honey or stevia or maple syrup ) 3. 2 tsp baking powder 4. 1/2 tsp salt 5. 1 cup rice or soy milk ( if you can tolerate rice milk, i would recommend that instead of soy milk) 6. 1 egg, lightly beaten 7. 2 tsp olive or vegtable oil Sift the rice flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together in a bowl. Beat in the rice milk until the mixture has a smooth consistency. Add the beaten egg and olive oil and mix until just blended. I recommend slightly grease your waffle iron to prevent sticking. The waffle also freezes very well. Just heat it up in the toaster oven using the toast setting. Enjoy! Why are you eliminating so many food items? What kind of treatment plan are you on? patty
-
If it is the cripsy fried crust you crave, have you tried making sweet rice waffle? I make it for my son, and it is yummy! It is basically sweet rice flour, egg, milk of choice, baking powder, olive oil and honey for sweetness since you are avoiding sugar. If you are interested, I will give you the receipe. Patty

Negative effects from Naturpathic Treatment?
patty replied to patty's topic in Tourette Syndrome and Tics
Chemar, Thx for the clarification between homepathy and naturopath. All this is so confusing! My son's ND requested 3 tests before coming up his treatment plan: 1. Immunolabs blood test, CBC, Comprehensive metaliolic panel, TSH, Ferritin ( I am not even sure what this is ) 2. CSA comprehensive stool Analysis 3. Heavy metal chelation test I decided to go ahead with the first 2 tests. In retrospect, I am glad I did. With the chelation test, I know it will bring on more tics. Based on the test results, my son's ND recommended fish oil, unda #s, various probiotics and treatment to repair the gut lining. The protocol is to take the supplements while her partner, also a ND, using NAET to treat my son's food and environmental allergy. (Initially, I only wanted NAET treatment, but this particular office's policy is to go thru a ND for evaulation, take various supplements along with NAET). Here are my questions: If my son's ND used the above tests results as baseline to treat my son's symptoms, why does he experience so much side effect? Is it possible that she prescribed an inappropriate treatment plan for my son. I am not sure what to expect from the next doctor, rather a ND or.... Since homepathic medicine bought on more symptoms for my son, do you think it can worsen his tics? We stopped taking the Unda #s and probiotic for about 1 month, his symptoms are gradually going away, but will he be back to where he was? At this point, my son still has more tic that we started the treatment plan ( he has 2 new vocal tics, and uses his shirt to wipe his mouth, which we haven't seen for about 9 months)! In reading all the info. here. I believe someone with environmental allergy would benefit from vitamin supplements, like calcium & magnesuim ...., and also an air purifier. I am starting my son with calcuim and magnesium and using a air purifier today, hopefully it helps. Thx again chemar, you are a wealth of information. You and others really help me sort out alot of information otherwise would have taken me weeks to find out. It has been really hard to work alone for the last 6 months. Do you keep a daily journal on your son's symptoms, diet....? I have been doing it since the onset of his tics and all the observation is wearing me out! I find that I am less stress out when I am not constantly watching him. I think he notice my observation. We often lock eyes. Can this be stressful for him knowing that I am watching him? I wonder if this can indirectly cause more tics?! Patty -
Julie, As I am researching for an air purfier, one of the Austin Air purifier claims it can also remove chemical smells. Maybe that may be helpful to you. Take care! Patty

Thx Julie for your quick response. It is interesting that you were able to do 3 offending allergents at one time. For us, when my son treated dairy. Our NAET dr., treated the "dairy mix" first. Then my son return the following week and check for specific dairy items that he did not pass using the muscle test. My son did not pass "milk, yogurt, butter and casine". To speed up the process, we treated 2 items per week. According to Dr. Devi Nambudripad's book, "Say Goodbye to illness", while having NAET treatment, a 3rd party in the room may steal the treament from the patient. I was always there with my daughter while my son is getting his NAET treatment. Our NAET dr. massages my son at the pressure points while he is holding the offending agent in one hand. When she is done massaging him. He continues to hold the offending agent in his hand for another 10/15 minutes. Then she retest him for the offending agent using the muscle test to make sure he pass. Then we avoid the offending agent for the next 25 hours. After the 25 hour avoidance period, we then slowly reintroduce the offending agent 2/3X a day for the next 2/3 days back into my son's diet. Then we return the following week for retest. Then we start the whole process again. Our NAET dr. does not do any acupuncture or acupressure on my son after the NAET treatment. According to my son's acupunctist, who just got NAET certification last summer, but was not trained by Dr. Nambudripad says she would do acupuncture after NAET treament. We decided not to use my son's acupuncturist because she took this summer off for maternity leave and also our NAET dr. has 3 years of experience and was trained by Dr. Nambudripad. And she is also a ND. Did you experience more tics the day of and after NAET treatment? And when the offending food was reintroduced into your diet? Sometimes, my son would have more or new tics for a few days, mostly facial. My son also has 2/3 slight vocal tics that come and go. In your experience, did the NAET treatment benefit mostly motor and/or vocal tics? I agree, when we 1st learnd about NAET about 2 years ago before my son's tics happen. After oure 1st NAET treatment, referred by our current acupuncturist, I thought it was to hokey. Since there is a connection with tics and allergy, I am revisiting NAET again. Like you said, the treatment is not cheap but not unreasonable (we are paying $75 per treatment), and it is noninvasion. If the energy treatment works, it is worth it. I do have one concern. Can NAET backfire? Can it casue the patient to have increase sensitivity to the offending allergent (more allergic than before the NAET treatment)? According to our NAET dr., the worst case scenario is that it does not work. Starting today, I am giving my son 250mg calcuim carbonate and 125 mg magnesium a day. We also bought an air purifier for my son's room. Hopefully that helps. Thx again! How is your pregnacy coming along? Since you have environmental allergy, do you use an air purifier? If so, please give me info. on it. Patty

Julie, I am so happy that NAET and/or the supplement is helping you. And congrad on the baby. My son started NAET treatment this summer. We treated egg, chicken, white rice, brown rice, wheat, gluten, oat, oatbran, milk, cheeze, yogurt and butter. Each week, we treated 1 or 2 items at a time, with myself and my daughter present in the SAME office. Questions: 1. Did you have a blood test done on your food sensitivities to use as baseline? or just the use of muscle tesing? 2. Did you treat more than 2 items at a time? I was told 2 is maxium per week. 3. I read the book "Say Goodbye to Illness", the author as well as the NAET founder stressed that while having NAET treatment, there shouldn't be anyone else present because it may interfere with the energy treatment. But our NAET dr. says otherwise. She said everything is about "intention", so other people's present do not interfere with treatment. Does your NAET dr. say the same thing? 4. How many MG of calcium, magnesium and zinc are you taking daily? I am considering giving my son calcium and magnesium. 5. Have you tried stopping the Cal & Mag supplement and see what happens with the tic? As I understand it, mold has a neurological effect which can cause tics. I am looking forward to your respond. You are one of the few that actually used NAET, so your input is very important to me as I am trying to figure out if I should continue with the NAET treatment. Thx! Patty

Anyone out there has negative effects from Naturpathic treatments? My son had a sudden onset of head nodding tic, 6 months ago and later developed vocal tic off & on. We started treatment with a Naturpathic doctor. The Dr. recommended fish oil, 4 days into it, my son's vocal tic returned. So we stop and the tic was gone. Then she started him with Unda #s for the detoxification of liver, kidney and body tissue. As a result, he developed new facial tics and gradually intensified the head nod tic. The dr. keep telling us it is normal and give it some time. We managed to finish the 1st set of Unda #s in about a month. And 6 days into the 2nd set of Unda#, his head nod tic was frequent and jerky and he was slightly off his feet, as if he was jumping. So we stopped and his tics subsided in about 2 weeks. The dr. adjusted the Unda # formula and recommend the 3rd set. Again more tics. So we stopped for another 3 weeks. Since my son is so reactive to the Unda #s. She recommended probiotic, HMF Replete. About 6 days into it, my son developed new facial tics and more head nods. This time, it took about a month before everything taper off again. According to the dr., my son's increased symptoms is due to the yeast die off. She tested him for yeast thru a blood test and was negative. So far, we are experiencing everything opposite of what she is telling me. The dr. told me I shouldn't stop the "HEALING CRISIS" (things don't get better until it gets worst). I am just not so sure if this is the right treatment plan for us. I am thinking maybe not everyone respond to Naturalpathic medicine favorably. Anyone with the same experience? And if anyone out there has a favorable experience with Naturalpathic treatments, please elaborate. I would love to know about it. I am trying to figure out what works best for my son. Thx! Patty

Chemar, Interesting, OCD wax and wane just like tics.... I bought a chewable Rhino Calcium that has a calcium/magnesium ratio of 2:1. 250mg calcium carbonate and 125 mg magnesium oxide per 2 tablets. Is 2 tablets a day enough for medicinal effect? The calcium supplement contains Natural Colors, does this mean is dye-free? Also, I read somewhere that certain form of calcium is better absorb into the body. Is it CALCIUM CARBONATE? Thx for your advice. Patty

Thx a million Carolyn for the link. How did you come across this info.? I am not that good on the computer. Most of the time, I just google the key words. Patty

Pandamon, Oops! I wrote my original post at nite, so I was pretty tired. Anyways, what i mean with the "taking 5 steps forward and then 5 steps back" was his tic progression. In the first 2 mos., I saw a steady decline in tic symptoms, but in the 3 mo., everytime my son's tics decrease, it increase again in a few days. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Good luck on your daughter's surgery. Please keep me posted. patty

Chemar, Does OCD comes and goes? He started this shirt wiping habit probably at age 4. It lasted for about a year, off and on. Then it came back again, about 3 months after his tics happened. He usually does it when he is eating, but also while he is not eating. He used to tell me the roof of his mouth itches, so I thought it was allergy related. Now he tells me, he feels something there or he is not sure why he does it. If it is OCD, what kind of supplement is helpful? I have been thinking about giving him calcium and magnesium. What is the appropriate dosage for a 61/2 year old about 50 pounds? Thx! patty

Is it possible to outgrow tics and ts? My son came down with an acute head nodding tic about 6 mos. ago and later developed some vocal tics that's off and on. Also, some other tics that come & go. The neurologist and ped said it is too soon to tell. I keep hoping that it is not the "T" word. Any input is appreciated. Thx!

Thx for the info Carolyn. It is hard to find an acupuncturist who has treated tics or TS. Ours has only treated some minor nervous tics. It would be great to know that there are certains points out there that help relieve tics. patty Thx Kim, I will check with our chiropractor regarding adjusting the back as well. Patty

My son has a tendency to use his shirt to wipe his mouth. Most times is just the outside of his month, but sometimes he uses his shirt to wipe around the inside of his months a couple of times. If this is a tic, I don't want to discipline him. How can I tell between a tic and bad habit??? Also, since he is little, he hates his socks off. He only takes it off when he is taking a bath. He has gotton better over the years. He still sleep with his socks on, but he would take it off at the beach or while he is doing water play at home. I am wondering if he has some sensory issues. Is so, how should I help him. I really don't want to add other doctor appointment at this point. Patty

Thx Kim for your search tip. I am new to the forum so I am still in the process of figuring things out. You mentioned Zyrtec helps with his tics. Does it reduce tics? And what happens when he is not on Zyrtec, more tics again? patty
-
Thx Kim, I think I am going to get my son back on the maintance schedule. You & others inputs really help me find the missing pieces. Does your chiropractor adjust for the neck since your son has a head shaking tic? And does your son's chiropractor has experience treating motor or vocal tics? Since my son has a head nodding tic, his chiropractor adjusts his neck. I wonder if the spine may also need adjustment, since there are alot of nerves. patty
-
Carolyn, I am so glad to hear that you are able to find an alternative treatment to replace the conventional medicine. How long do you think it take to see a decrease in your tics after you seek out alternative treatments and controling your allergy problems? I am anxious to know how much time I should allow to see some results. I know everyone is different, but it is good to have a time frame. It gives me hope to push forward. Patty

chemar, how often does your son get the above treatments? patty
