Those of you who have older kids- are you considering this before school starts? I know it's rare, but should we, considering the fact that it is often fatal?

My dd is going off to college and I decided that with many cases of meningitis being seen with college students it was best for her to receive the vacine. I was surprised when she had her appt. last week that she had already received it in 2008. I don't remember it but I guess there was no side effects.

My non-PANDAS son got this when he first started college 3 years ago. There was a girl who went to a college near us that got meningitis. Her story scared the heck out of me. I am hoping that by the time my PANDAS/Lyme son goes off to college (he's only 10), he will be well enough to have the vaccine. I was under the impression it was recommended for situations where kids will be in close quarters (dorm rooms, etc).

Don't want to discourage anyone, but I had this one last year and seemed to have a couple rough weeks afterwards. Not sure if it was related, but maybe something to keep in mind if you decide to get it.
