Lynn777
Hi all, I just started my son on the Omega 3's and have read on here that some people have positive results and some have negative results. The first two weeks he seemed better (I had him on 1/2 the recommended dose). This week I started him on the full dose and I'm noticing his verbal is creeping back. So I'm wondering what specific effects people have seen and how long it took? Don't know how to tell if the verbal is from the supplement or just life with a tic disorder... Thanks, Lynn
Chemar
Hi Lynn everybody benefits positively from Omega 3...it is the *source* of the omega 3 that some react to negatively for reasons not yet fully understood (thought genetic) there seem to be numerous anecdotal reports of people with TS not tolerating the fish oil source of omega 3 (they can often eat fish without problem, just react to the oil, which usually comes from the liver) for them it is best to use things like flaxseed oil, borage oil, avocado oil etc as the omega3 source, and of course try to include omega 3 rich food like wild alaskan salmon, avocados etc in diet so if your child is taking omega3 derived from fish oil, then this may be the reason for the increase in tics
CSP
My son did not do well on fish oil. I wonder if since Chemar said it comes from the liver if there is high amounts of tyrosine?? My son did not do well on some B vitamins that came from bovine and porcine liver or brain ect. I thought at the time it was because it was high in tyrosine which cause a increase in dopamine. Humm I wonder? CP
CSP
Just wanted to add if you would like to get omega 3's in your child without the fish oil caps, Vital Choice seafood on their web posts that one 6oz sockeye salmon has about 2000mg of EPA & DHA, and vit. D is about 1170IU. This is the only way my son gets omega 3's. Please know folks the omega3's would be much lower with FARMED FISH. (we all know not to buy that stuff right.) Lynn777
Thanks all, I'm keeping him on the Omega's for now. It's just a very low hum that returned, so I'm not sure it warrants blaming the pill just yet. Unfortunately, although DS is a great eater, he does not like seafood. So, getting his Omega 3's from actual fish is just not going to happen right now <sigh>. Therefore, I'm going to give the Nordic Naturals a few more weeks and if it seems he is truly sensitive I'll switch to flaxseed or borage. ~Lynn

CP great info there Cp and I have bolded your last sentence to remind everyone that farmed fish is ICK ICK ICK with many sick fish kept alive with antibiotics and yuck conditions often and artificial color etc in the food etc etc etc etc always buy WILD fish from reputable sources!
