Is anyone having their kid(s) watch the episode? I was thinking about it to give my boys a better understanding of the disorder, why they take antibiotics, and, to let them know they are not alone or weird, and, to let them see that THEY WILL BE OKAY!! (which they are, now)

My younger son was severe....I think he would really relate to it, but, my older son probably won't so much. However, I am afraid it may backfire and scare them....making them paranoid??!!!

Any thoughts??

I had asked my dd if she would like to watch it. She declined, saying that she already knew about it. I told her that I thought she might like to see or know about another child who was sick like she was. She said she didn't think so. She seems a little afraid to see it. For age 8, she however, does have a very good understanding of pandas.

Honestly, hadn't thought about it. But no way no how here!! He just turned 7 and one of his biggest, and consistent obsessions from day one has been having somethng wrong with him or dying. I have told him he has pandas and that is why he takes medicine and sees all of these doctors, but pretty much left it at that unless he asks - then it's a very simple answer based on the question and his frame of mind at the time.

I myself though, got an email reminder, have it set on my phone caldendar, written on my desk at home and set in DVR - LOL! Reminding everyone I know as well to watch it.

Actually, I saw the same thing, but I did that last week. I ended up just setting hte DVR for every episode of the show. I didn't check again in the past couple of days. I did however get an e reminder directly from TV guide/discovery channel that it is on tonight at 10.

Yeah, see, with my kids...they both also have a good understanding of what PANDAS is (atleast I think so).......but, just to see they are not alone....geez, I don't know......maybe I should skip it. Yeah...I think I will....why take the chance??

I'd probably TiVo or record it and watch it first. I wouldn't want to show him something that would potentially freak him out until I've seen how they covered it and could be prepared to answer any questions how they presented the material might bring up. Our son is too young (2 1/2) for it to do any good but we're still recording it and may consider having his older sister watch it to understand what's wrong with her brother. But again, we're going to watch it first before we make that decision.

I now know I do not have the channel it will be on:( I say record it and preview it. Also, you don't know how you will react. If you start to cry or just can't watch it, you don't want to run the chance that the kids may feel guilty. Not that they are, but kids and their thinking really can go all over the place.

Also, if Sammy was worse off than anyone's child, the child might become fearful that they will get sick again and be the way Sammy was.

I'm going to have my older non-PANDAS child watch it so that he can become more familiar with it. He is away at college all year so he's not living the life of PANDAS like we are at home. I don't think I will have my PANDAS son watch it because it might make him more anxious. I don't know, I guess I need to watch it first before I make a true decision.

Okay...definitely axing the kids watching idea! It will probably freak me out......so, don't want to do that to them!

I was just told by my younger son to stop worrying so much about him  ........that he is fine! Now, can anyone tell me how to do that?

I get that from my older son all the time. He tells me to stop keeping my son in a bubble. That's why I want him to watch the show because it's easier said than done (and not always realistic in my opinion)!

This is on Discovery Health not just regular Discovery so that may be impacting everyone's ability to find it on their tv listing.

I do plan on having DS10 watch it. If I said no he would probably be much more upset. He has told everyone to watch, he has been eager to see it and set the DVR himself. I read Saving Sammy and while I'd never allow him to read that because I wouldn't want him to feel anxious or worried about the impact on the family, he did read the opening letter to the doctor that chronicles Sammy's behavior. He has a good handle on the idea that Sammy had a severe case versus his more mild PANDAS. THankfully with the things that make him anxious getting worse from PANDAS is something he has been spared from.

If it was my younger son with PANDAS I don't think I'd ever let him see it. He is a very different kid and by the next day he would have all the symptoms of Sammy or at least believe he did. I think it really depends kid to kid and their personality.
