Betty04 Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 My son is 6 weeks post IVIG and we are looking into ruling out co-infections since we have not yet seen any response to IVIG. Does anyone know whether IVIG would possibly create a false negative or positive? We were not sure if donor antibodies might create a false positive (i.e., donor had lyme or co-infection) or if somehow the donor antibodies might suppress results creating a false negative? Any thoughts or experiences would be grately appreciated!
Betty04 Posted June 6, 2010 Author Report Posted June 6, 2010 I think the majority fade after 4 weeks but there are still donor antibodies present at 3 months? quote name='peglem' date='Jun 5 2010, 09:45 PM' post='70350'] I believe the donor IgG lasts about 4 weeks.
KeithandElizabeth Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Hello: I called the IGENEX doctor to ask when we should do the blood test for our son post IVIG and he said after 4 weeks. Another mom on this forum recently had a positive IGM IGENEX test 11 weeks post IVIG and Dr. Charles Jones felt that the test was accurate. Elizabeth
Stephanie2 Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Betty are you the one with Scott Smith? He told me that the antibodies run out on the 30th day of IVIG. So I would think that it would not affect the test after that day. Please PM me with your results if you don't mind. I have the IGENEX kit and trying to decide if I should spend the money. I don't have a reason to suspect Lyme but want to be thorough... Betty04 Posted June 6, 2010 Author Report Posted June 6, 2010 Thank you! I was planning to call IGENEX tomorrow but now you have taken the worry away of whether we can get accurate results! I have an IGENEX kit, are most labs able to draw the blood accurately? I would imagine I would take it to FEDEX but was wondering how complicated the kit is? Last time we did the test with my DAN doctor in CT, so its almost routine there. Now we are in Northern CA and when I called our local hospital's lab, they said I needed to get the kit and they would draw it, but I was just wondering if they would do it right? Thanks again for giving me one less thing to worry about today! Hello: I called the IGENEX doctor to ask when we should do the blood test for our son post IVIG and he said after 4 weeks. wornoutmom Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 Can someone help me understand this? If antibodies run out after 30 days, then how does IVIG seem to help long term (as Dr K would say)? Wouldn't this just give a reprieve until the next trigger infection hits?
KeithandElizabeth Posted June 6, 2010 Report Posted June 6, 2010 A few other tidbits about the IGENEX kit.... I believe you do need a MD signature on one of the sheets with their PIN number. You can only fedex it to them on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday because they want to make sure they get the kit before the weekend. And this is especially since the tubes do not need to be on ice, like the Cunningham test tubes. Just a note on lyme, since unfortunately, I am reading way to much about lyme since both of my children have lyme and its co-infections on top of the PANDAS. Lyme can lay silent for years and then present itself with another bacteria/virus. It is opportunistic infection and it can mimic 300 other diseases and illnesses. My son has zero symptoms of lyme and then did present with a bartonella rash when he developed the co-infection bartonella. He never had the joint pains, etc...... My daughter did have lyme symptoms, but she also had the co-infection babesia, which presents with more physical symptoms. Elizabeth
