JuliaFaith Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 My doctor is currently looking into this treatment that is used in Europe for PANDAS patients. Apparently, children are given increasing dosages of strep over a period of time so that they do not have reoccurences when exposed again. Kind of like allergy shots. Has anyone heard about this treatment?

Has anyone heard about this treatment? IMO - this would be a very risky treatment for PANDAS. PANDAS kids do not have a normal response to strep. if they did, they wouldn't have PANDAS. To expose a PANDAS kid to strep in any form would be far more dangerous than any concern you may have about antibiotics or traditional medical treatments.

Has anyone heard about this treatment? Are you sure he was talking about strep, or was it staph? Take a look at this: http://infectious-diseases.jwatch.org/cgi/...2/2?q=etoc_jwid

Maybe the treatment is being considered for more than just strep. Will let you know more when I find out more. Will post information as I get it from my dr.
PANDAS_Denmark Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Living in Europe (Denmark) and never heard of it ! Neither from parents to PANDASkids, nor from doctors or literature. Sounds crazy to me, given the fact that lots of these kids react with PANDASexacerbations from just being in the same room as people (or dogs or cats ...) infected with strep -
tpotter Posted June 4, 2010 Report Posted June 4, 2010 It's like having celiac disease (gluten). If you even have a trace of gluten (even breathing it for some), you would have a terrible reaction. Same with strep in PANDAS kids. No way would I even begin to dream about exposing my boys to strep!
