Chemar
A very big welcome to our newest member Belinda who has asked me to transfer a post that she tried to enter late last night. Here is the post......... I HAVE BEEN READING ALL YOUR POSTINGS FOR SOME TIME NOW. YOU HAVE ALL PROVIDED ME WITH HOPE, PROMISE, PEACE AND PLENTY OF INFORMATION AND I APPRECIATE IT. WHEN I FIRST FOUND THIS BOARD I USED TO CRY READING IT. THIS IS MY STORY... AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS OF PRESSURE FROM MY SON JACK'S SCHOOL I CAVED IN ON 10/15/03 AND PUT HIM ON ADDERALL. HE STARTED OUT DOING VERY WELL. IN JANUARY AFTER THE HOLIDAYS HE STARTED BACK ON ADDERALL, A FEW DAYS LATER THE SCHOOL WAS INSISTING MY KIDS GET THE 2ND HEP A SHOT, AND ALTHOUGH JACK WAS HAVING SEVERE ALLERGIES AT THE TIME THE DR SAID IT WASN'T A PROB W/THE VAC.....2 DAYS LATER BEGAN THE VOCAL TICS AND SOON AFTER FOLLOWED THE MOTOR TICS. JACK WAS 8, NOW 9. THE TICS BECAME SO SEVERE THAT I PULLED HIM OUT OF SCHOOL AS OF 2/7/04. i TOOK HIM OFF THE ADDERALL ASAP. I WENT TO EVERY SPECIALIST OUT THERE. EVEN ONE OF THE MANY THAT TREAT MICHAEL J. FOX. ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS DRUG HIM MORE. I REFUSED. BY MERE CHANCE I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS CHIROPRACTOR/NATUROPATH THAT HAS BEEN PRACTICING ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE FOR ABOUT 25YRS. HE HAS TURNED OUR LIVES AROUND JUST SINCE WE BEGAN SEEING HIM IN MID-JUNE. JACK STILL TICS BUT THEY ARE REALLY INSIGNIFICANT. THEY DO WAX AND WANE BUT I CAN USUALLY PINPOINT THEM. WE HAVE MADE MANY CHANGES AND I PLAN ON MAKING MORE. EVERY VISIT WE COME UP WITH OTHER THINGS BUT IN MY HEART I KNOW WE'RE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. JACK IS BACK IN SCHOOL THIS YEAR (3RD) AND IS REALLY THRIVING. PART OF HIS PROTOCOL INCLUDES 2 SUPPLEMENTS FOR HIS FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION. HE'S BEEN ON THEM FOR APPROX 6 WEEKS AND HIS PROGRESS REPORT REFLECTS A POSSIBLE A/B HONOR ROLL. WE HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE!!!! I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO SCARED ABOUT ANYTHING IN MY LIFE BEFORE. JUST LISTENING TO MY BABY UNCONTROLLABLY BLURTING OUT SOUNDS AND JERKING HIS NECK WOULD KILL ME INSIDE. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO OTHER THAN PRAY. I FOUND THIS SIGHT AND THEN LATITUDES AND THEN MY DR. GOD AGAIN CAME THROUGH FOR ME WHEN I NEEDED HIM MOST. THANKS EVERYONE....... BELINDA
Heather
Belinda, Thank you so much for sharing your story. Your post had me in tears. I am so glad that you have experienced the success with your son. Your last paragraph is a feeling that we all share....the pain and fear that we feel to see our babies with these uncontrollable movements that sometimes become so severe they are debilitating to their life is often unbearable emtionally. My son was pulled out of school for 2 months as well during this dark time in our lives and like you, I have never been so scared in my life. Bravo to you and thanks again for sharing and emphasizing God's role in this path to healing. Heather

Claire
Melanie, If you live in Ohio I normally recommend trying no screens for a week (No TV, no computer, no gameboy), to see if it makes a difference in tics. Most people who tried this here found it helped. Also, do you eliminate artificial additives? Have you tested for other food or environmental allergies or yeast overgrowth or elevated metals? These can all trigger tics. With Aspergers, I recommend a DAN doctor from the list here--they specialise in natural treatment for Autism Spectrum disorders. We had great luck with ours, but my son only had tics. http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?...st=0entry3404 Good luck, Claire
Belinda
Heather...thanks for the kind words... Have any of you ever heard of QLink? I purchased a QLink necklace from my Dr. that my son has to wear day and night. It protects him from the EMFs all around him. It is much more than a magnet. It has some kind of chip inside. Maybe it is just me but he has done very well since I bought it 2 1/2 weeks ago. His tics as well as his concentration has improved greatly!!! Melanie, I am no expert at this as are Heather, Claire, or Chemar and the others but I just want to share my experience with you. My son started with vocal tics followed by severe motor tics. Since beginning a protocol with this Chiropractor/Naturopath his vocal tics have drastically improved while his motor tics have basically disappeared (since June '04). Our Dr. found various viruses, toxins, and allergies in his system. We've chipped away one at a time and we have gotten somewhere. I am still learning every day. It is almost impossible to do it on your own. You are already on the right path because you've already found this forum.
Mollyz
I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but here it goes. I found this site trying to learn about tics because of my 9 year old son. He has been jeking his head back and forth for almost a year. He does it mostly when he exerts himself but also sometimes when just sitting around. He is also doing a lot of burping. We have been to the GI clinic and to the neurologist and the Pulmonist to see if there is anything wrong with him but i'm starting to think tic disorder. Any advice? I feel so bad for him but nobody seems to know what is wrong with him.
Chemar
Hi MollyZ and welcome to Latitudes It really does sound like it may be a tic manifestation.....do you have any good developmental pediatricians in your area? My son had the head jerking tic as one of his first manifestations of TS, which we do have a family genetic link to in my husbands family. I hope you will spend some time reading thru the many threads here that may give you insight into your sons's situation. Also, if you look at the very top of the forum you will see a pinned thread entitled "Finding Medical Help" which may lead you to a good natural doctor. Sadly most neurologists in conventional medicine usually are too quick to want to prescribe medications for tics, and the side effects with those can sometimes be worse than the tics! Do stay in touch......there are many helpful people here who are very generous in sharing their knowledge and experiences. Hopefully it will give you the insights you need to help your son
Belinda
Hi Mollyz, My son began ticcing in January '04. It began as a clearing of the throat, then a grunting sound, followed by gasps for air, and then yelps. Soon after began the head jerking. None of the medical doctors could give me any answers. Thank God I found this forum months ago because I began gathering as much information as possible (I only started posting here a week ago). I found myself a Chiropractor/Naturopath who has made miraculous progress with my son. Please follow the advice from Chemar, Heather, and Claire. They are fountains of information. Good luck, Belinda
Mollyz
Thanks for the info. We do not have tourettes in the family anywhere or other tic disorders. I would agree that the conventional doctors are not helping my son and I really don't want to go with meds. What does the chiropractor/Naturopath do for your son? Belinda
Hi Mollyz, I'm attaching the link to our doctor. He has done so many things for our son. Check out the site so you can better understand what exactly he does. He is much more than a chiropractor. http://www.dcdoctor.com/dc/tx/atmachiropra...fs_aboutus.html My son still has tics but they are minor in comparison to what they were. None of what this doctor is invasive. Take Care, Belinda
