wals2050 Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Hello. I am new to this forum. I have been giving my 7 yr old a mag supp. for the last week in addition to B complex. My son has an ear infection and was prescribed amoxicillin for the next 10 days. Can someone tell me if there is a negative interaction between mag and the antibiotic. Does it mess up his stomach? What else does it do? Thank you for your help. I am so new to this.
Chemar Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) Hi I am not seeing a potential for bad interaction with mag and amox on the drug interactions list, but it really is always a good idea to ask the pharmacist about possible interactions antibiotics kill off good bacteria in the gut so it is always a good idea to give a probiotic too...just be sure to give it three hours after the antibiotic or it will be rendered ineffective by the anti action some forms of magnesium can have a laxative effect remember to avoid magnesium oxide as it is very poorly absorbed and so most passes straight through Edited April 3, 2010 by Chemar adding
Wombat140 Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I know you can't take calcium with tetracycline, or not within 4 hours of it or something. Otherwise the tetracycline doesn't work. But then nearly everything seems to interfere with tetracycline!
