LuluGirl
Has anyone ever heard of Mag Taurate worsening tics? For the last two days I have given my son 125 mg twice a day and it appears to me that they're even worse. I did also stop giving him the Shaklee B Complex at the same time which I probably shouldn't have done....... Lulu
Mustang Carole
HI, Whenever you are starting vits for your kids, you MUST do it one at a time, go LOW in dose and go SLOWLY. So, one, low and slow.!!! If you give a combo multi drug, you have no idea what is helping ot harming him. Plus each human is different , so what what works for some, will not work for others. This is very helpful, Take a caledar or make one yourself and for each day record vit., dosage, time given and any effects good or bad that you noted that day. At the end of the week, review the results ,ummarize and decide to continue the vit or add more. This can be a helpful tool to have in hand for your dr. This all takes time, but you will have a more defined end results and it is in black and white. Happy Trails, Mustang Carole
Chemar
Hi Lulu i absolutely agree with Mustang Carole there. One at a time and go slow! I would think it more likely a withdrawal reaction to the absence of Bvits than the presence of mag taurate. Wasnt the Shaklee VERY high in calcium? you may also be seeing a reaction to the change in mineral ratios. I honestly believe that it is the COMBINATION of all the beneficial supps that brings the optimum results. Lulu, are you working with a naturopath or a doctor who supports alternative treatments? If not, it really is a good idea...it just takes the guesswork out of this. However, if that isnt possible, it may take a little trial and error for you to reach the right balance. Just always start at the lowest dose and then work up and introduce your supps gradually until you have the right combo feel free to email me if it gets overwhelming! Guest Guest_LuluGirl
Thank you. I guess I did jump in too fast..For now I replaced the B Complex, eliminated the mag-taurate and decreased the zinc (I forgot to tell you that I bumped that up too). I'll start over slowly this time! I don't know if this is related but after 2 days of my "new" routine my son came up with this very wierd rash on his chin. Kind of bits of black and blue. I just don't know!! I am working with a natuopath (actually a chiro who does functional medicine) but not specifically for TS issues. He doesn't know much about it. I did cross reference the dosage amounts of what was suggested here with what he said and they all jive, except for the higher amounts of mag. And now, my sister-in-law gave me a book to read that said tics were totally caused by anxiety and that if I could get that "fixed" with my son the tics would stop. Of course I feel like it's all my fault now! He is just such a puzzle and I'm going to devote my life to figuring him out. Hopefully it won't take that long! Guest Another Mom
Lulu, If I was near I'd give you a hug. You sound so overwhelmed and I can relate to those feelings! However, know that it is NOT your fault. From all that I have read and researched I've learned that there can be many reasons for tics - anxiety is one but it does not mean that you are doing anything wrong. Some children are just "naturally" anxious (as a kid I was!). Have you had your son tested for allergies or assessed for chemical sensitivity? I took my little one to a doctor who arranged for allergy testing and suggested I administer a zinc supplement (Vita Life Zinc Plus -combination of Vitamin C, Zinc and B6) along with weekly allergy injections. I also eliminated the "scents" from my child's environment as much as possible (e.g. perfume, air fresheners, fabric softners etc). I also limit sugar intake and television watching as I have detected those as possible triggers. These are early days, but so far I am seeing a big improvement and I continue to pray! So, hang in there, I am confident that you will find the solution for your son. He is blessed to have such a caring Mom! Another Mom
