Fixit
For those starting meds for Mycroplasma, others have noted their children started a cough a few days after beginning them. Michael from Tampa did too. So don't be freaked out if that happens. Yes, there was a cough in our case! Also some occasional chest pain. Also eye pain can be a symptom of mycoplasma. And on it goes, like a club within a club. chest and eyes.....just when you start the meds or other times.... we have had rare unexplained chest pains and occasional light sensivity and unexplained pain... Fixit
My daughter, who has suffered with PANDAS like symptoms for 3 years has elevated Mycoplasma IgG 2.75 (nl < 0.90). I just got an email from Dr. T but I haven't talked with him yet. I am SO relieved to know what is causing her problems. If Dr. T were in front of me right now I'd give him a BIG kiss and a hug. He is our hero! I'll talk with him later today to find out how we are changing up the antibiotics. Ever hopeful, Angela Here is something I found on the LabCorp site about Mycoplasma testing. I'm not a doctor by any means, but if I read this right, the IgM number can be absent during a re-infection, so just because the IgG number is positive does not mean that they are not currently having issue with it?? (see last sentence) Anyone else reading that like I am? "A positive result indicates prior exposure to Mycoplasma. A single positive IgG result may be present in the absence of any clinical symptoms as specific IgG antibodies may remain elevated long after initial infection. Recent or acute infection can only be documented by a positive Mycoplasma IgM result and/or a significant increase in the IgG value between sera drawn two to four weeks apart. Specific IgM antibodies may persist for several months after infection or be absent during reinfection." Does this mean he has Myco P? Myco P Igg abs U/ml 0-99 negative <100 interdetermin 100-320 positive >320 His score was 631 Myco P Igm 0-769 Neg <770 low pos 770-950 Pos >950 his score was <770 My Endo's secon hand man said yes this is Myco Dr T said this represents a cronic condition...and igm is new ...i idon't know if that is just for the particular bacteria or overall igm tests(and igm's usuallly only show up at the time of infection)key word as we all go through this is USUALLY (if i got that right) so Igg used to be the stardard...why did that change? or has it as it the upper end was 320 and ds tested at 631 2xs highest This was a labcorpt test and its disclaimer said.... the reference interval established is intended as a baselineonly. Values >100 may indicate a recent infection with Myco P andneed to be confirmed either by a pos IGM reslut and/or an additional specimen drawn 2-4 weeks later showing a significant increase in antibodies levels.. so... it would only be doubtfull if under 100 or close ...illl give it that. and that is only if its low but the other requirement would be significan increase in levels...well it's already 631 would you want to wait on that I'm gueesing they are increased....... ds starrting meds today Can anyone confirm what i am trying to ask/or trying to affirm in regards to ds test results
brittanys mom
Us too!! Our daughter's levels were at 2.15 (IgG). Her IgM was normal. Did you just get positive IgG?We start on generic Biaxin tonight. We are praying this is the key!!! She has suffered for at least the past 3 years with OCD, which is starting to morph into anorexia. She developed tics in July (directly after a strep infection). It truly has been a nightmare. Please keep us updated on your progress. Kim Only positive on the (IgG) This is the Mycoplasma IgM 0.57 (nl < 0.90). My dd also has trouble eating. I have to watcher her eat every bite to make sure she chews right. It scares the ###### out of me because she's already very thin. Will definitely keep you updated. Can't wait to hear from Dr. T and see what he wants her on for antibiotcs and start them. I hope this is the answer. Do you also have Dr. T? Angela
brittanys mom
I do not mean to sound stupid. I am new to this forum, but my daughter has been living w/ PANDAS for 10 years. I want to ask you, when you talk about Dr. T who are you speaking about? We are in a situation that we have spoken to Dr. K in Chicago, are seeing a local infectious disease Dr. here next week, and have also spoke w/ Dr. Trifiletti in Ramsey, NJ and I am wondering if that is who you are speaking about. Dr. T said for my dd that she has Chronic Myco. Pneumoniae. Her IgG was elevated but not IgM. I believe (someone correct me if I am wrong) that the IgG number would have eventually fallen to a normal level if their immune system killed off the MP. In subsequent infections the IgM may not rise. Dr T said this represents a cronic condition...and igm is new ...i idon't know if that is just for the particular bacteria or overall igm tests(and igm's usuallly only show up at the time of infection)key word as we all go through this is USUALLY (if i got that right) so Igg used to be the stardard...why did that change? or has it as it the upper end was 320 and ds tested at 631 2xs highest I don't understand your question.ds starrting meds today Biaxin xl i assume? good luck with it and keep us posted. Can anyone confirm what i am trying to ask/or trying to affirm in regards to ds test results My basic understanding is that a high IgG means they have been infected in the past. Once infected, the IgM doesn't always rise when reinfected. Maybe I am wrong but I thought that the IgG would return to a normal reading if you didn't still have the infection. I could be wrong.
