tired mom Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Thank you to all of you who helped me with your encouraging and informative posts. I have resigned myself to never submit my daughter nor myself to a doctor with tunnel vision and one who is unable to think outside the box. This is a true story that happened many years ago. I had a brother who was 8 at the time and complained of leg pain and fatique and was told it was probably growing pains. A short time later he ended up in the hospital with a diagnosis of Rhematic fever. Although his blood work indicated nothing more serious his doctor had a gut feeling it was not Rhematic fever and asked my parents permission to do a spinal tap. His intuition had been correct. My brother had acute mylonginis leukemia. This is a rare form of leukemia in children. At that time my parents were instucted to go to Childrens hospital in Philadelphia. Upon arrival the doctors at chops said lets see what those local yolkos are calling leukemia. Again blood work was done No leukemic cells. Spinal tap confirms diagnosis. My point being that this illness is always present in the blood and in this case it was not. My brother was named the miracle child at chops because he was able to fight this cancer for 8 years. Did the cancer ever show up in his bloodwork????? The answer is yes 8 years later 2 weeks before he became an angel. So to me neg. strep swabs and normal titers does not rule out anything!!!!!!!!!

Don't cut yourself short here. It's really not that "outside the box." You are family - I know your daughter's history. I was there when she had chronic strep infections. I was there when she had her tonsils out. And I was a witness to her getting worse on an increase in meds like Zoloft.. Your doctor simply did not swab her for strep because he gave her the antibx she needed. So you don't have alot of "documented" proof of past strep infections. But her tonsils were an absolute mess when they came out. And her exacerbations with OCD/Tourette's and rage symptoms DEFINITELY coincide with illness. She recently had micoplasm. Her symptoms again worstened. Also, there are several cases of PANDAS whose throat strep cultures were neg, and whose titers are in normal range. IMO, she is still is host for strep, but it's hiding elsewhere. You do have proof, and you'll be heard. Give it a bit more time. Love you!
