Chemar
I know that we had a thread on this a while back, but I have just finished the book and wanted again to recommend it to anyone who hasnt yet read it AWESOME book The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin For those that havent yet heard of it, Jordan Rubin is a young man who thought his life was over when at age 19 he was so ill with Crohn's disease that, inspite of numerous conventional and alternative treatments, he just got so sick that the prognosis was death! Then, he believes miraculously, God led him to someone who used the Bible as a basis for determining a healthy diet. As Jordan began to study and research and follow "The Maker's Diet" he began to recover, and is now in glowing health, married and expecting their first child. He has obtained a degree in Naturopathy and has written this book as he firmly belives that God saved his life for him to be able to show others how to regain and maintain good health by following the food plan that God created us to eat. I highly recommend this book!
Sunshine
Chemar, I looked up The Maker's Diet on the internet, but it was hard to get a sense of what the diet entails. I hesitate to buy yet another book without even a remote idea of whether or not it is worthwhile for us. I know that you and your family follow this diet. Can you tell me a bit about it please?? Chemar
Hi Sunshine back in 2004 when I first read the Makers Diet book, I adopted some of the principles in our diet.......how I wish I had known then that my son had the beginnings of Crohn's disease...i would have implemented it fully! But at that time his symptoms were not yet such that we could get a clear dx and it wasnt until this past summer that we finally got the dx after a colonoscopy anyway about the Maker's Diet ...........I prefer the book to the online set up as online is by subscription whereas the book is inexpensive and very well formatted so that it makes an excellent reference and recipe book, as well as having a large section at the back for resources and contact info for distributers of healthy foods, supplements and a whole lot more The essence of the book is that we should be eating more of the good healthy stuff the way God created and intended for it to be used. The actual initial 40 day plan is divided into 3 two week phases, where foods are eliminated and rotated. This phased system is designed to "attack the three i's"... to balance insulin and reduce infection and inflammation. the plan has a basic, intermediate and advanced level for people to choose just how they want to follow it, based on their own lifestyle choices and health status........the more advanced levels being most recommended for those with chronic conditions. The wealth of background information on the foods and the yummy recipes appealed to me as a mom trying to take care of a sick child, while the citing of research, epidemiological studies etc appealed to my scientific side, and it has been inspiring for me to also comprehend the spiritual aspect of the food sources that God created for our nourishment and health preservation. I also like that the diet incorporates such a vast range of foods as that provides the variety and enjoyment of food that so many restrictive diets dont have I hope that gives a bit more info for you
Sunshine
Thanks Chemar! Good point about the on line subscription... that's what muddled me up. I'll add the book to my Xmas list. Do you think it's sold in bookstores in Canada, or should I have Santa order it on line?? Sunshine
Claire
Hi Cheri, I just read a review of the book. It's comment on free-range chickens made me think of what a friend told me recently. That all a company has to do to call their chicken eggs from free-range chickens is to provide a door to the cages, where theoretically the chickens could get out. They still live in the cage. I haven't researched this myself, but worth looking into. Darn...we always buy free-range chicken and eggs. Claire
Chemar
Claire places like White Egret farm, which is one of the poultry suppliers listed in the book, allow consumers to come to the farm to buy direct, and see for themselves how wholesome the conditions are under which the animals are farmed I think that buying food in supermarkets that is touted as "natural" or "free range" or even "organic" is very different than ordering direct from some of these suppliers Also, many of the suppliers recommended in the Maker's Diet are smaller farms and companies and therefore hopefully are genuine in their claims to be desirous to supply truly wholesome food
Claire
Interesting. No question that buying direct would allow you to see the conditions. A little off-topic, but someone was asking about raw milk, and they now sell it right at Whole Foods. The times are changing...even Safeway has an organic line. Anyway, really glad that this diet is working well for you! Claire
Cum Passus
Claire, Thanks that was me asking about raw milk, I'll check out Whole Foods. Another question about the eggs I was wondering if anyone had an increase in tics after eating the omega 3 eggs? Its hard to tell with my son because he seems like everything makes him, but I think he did have some more tics after eating omega 3 eggs. C.P.
