melanie Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 We probably also gave a little Advil in there as well (dd normally get advil daily). Looks like the hospital requested that we not give Advil during the day before or the day of her IVIG. Why not advil when we did the ivig we were told to use tyl too .But If advil helps why not .Im giving danny some advil (testing) 400mg am I hope this is ok?
thereishope Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Does Advil have any blood thinning qualities? Could that be why they don't want it on the same day as a procedure?
smartyjones Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 faith - thanks for that in-depth report - very interesting! and the explaination of milk-maid grip - i had been thinking it was more like a tic like milking a cow! so - am i understanding correctly that dr T is helpful b/c he is on the same page that this is a disorder and gives credence to parents in what they say and has treatment plans and protocols that he follows but those plans and protocols are similar to what others have found that have helpful, understanding, in-tune drs rather than him having a different treatment protocol? thanks and happy thanksgiving to all!
faith Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 faith - thanks for that in-depth report - very interesting! and the explaination of milk-maid grip - i had been thinking it was more like a tic like milking a cow! so - am i understanding correctly that dr T is helpful b/c he is on the same page that this is a disorder and gives credence to parents in what they say and has treatment plans and protocols that he follows but those plans and protocols are similar to what others have found that have helpful, understanding, in-tune drs rather than him having a different treatment protocol? thanks and happy thanksgiving to all! yes, I would say he is familiar with the modalities of treatments as he said, but he is not 'all knowing', did take the time to listen and also give his own feedback. I think he likes to go slow and thinks that some can do well just on antibiotics alone, but he seems very open to the pleas of the parents, he said that usually the parents know 99.9% more about all this than the doctors. I don't know what his protocol is per IVIG, but I did ask if he was on board with it if it came that my son looked like he needed it, and he indicated yes, that we would work it out. Again, I think he still has some setting up to do, so he probably doesn't want to move too fast simply for that reason, if IVIG is needed pronto, I think he might be more of a consult rather than the doer right now, but I think he'll be setting up things shortly. He knows alot about all this, but having his own practice is new to him, so he's gotta get that up and running. Hope everyone has a great day, Faith
EAMom Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Does Advil have any blood thinning qualities? Could that be why they don't want it on the same day as a procedure? Yes..dh reminds me that is why they prefered Tylenol. B/c of the possibility of bleeding with Advil.
EAMom Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 On the other hand, this website mentions using Advil (Ibuprofen) as an IVIG premed https://www.caremark.com/wps/portal/HEALTH_...ic=myositisivig The most common side effects of IVIg are headache, muscle aches, and fever, However, most of these can be prevented by premedication (giving medications before the IVIg treatment) with benedryl and ibuprofen. So maybe the docs/institutions that prefer Tylenol are just being very cautious about the bleeding possibility? If you google, there are lots of other sites/documents that recommend using either tylenol or ibuprofen with IVIG.
