dee45 Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Hi, need some help. We saw Dr. Latimer on the 30th of October that same week Anthony had a fever the first 3 days. She switched him form Pen-v-k to Augentin which we started 4 days ago He seems to be having increase in his head tics. I should also mention the H1N1 flu mist was given at his school last week he did not get it though but was probably exposed. so my question should I go back to pen-v-k or give the Agmentin more time I am so confused. any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Deanna
faith Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Dee, what was going on before the switch? do you mean he had the head tics but now they 'increased', or it just showed up again? Is the augmentin dose equivalent to the penvk? Faith
dee45 Posted November 10, 2009 Author Report Posted November 10, 2009 Hi Faith, his head tic is his predominat tic yes he was having them here and there before the switch but there is a definate increase going on now. I don't know if the 2 are equivelant I think the Augmentin is stronger> Deanna
dee45 Posted November 10, 2009 Author Report Posted November 10, 2009 Hi again, just sent Dr. Latimer and email and she just emailed back she said the Augmentin is more effective give it some time so I guess thats what i will do. I really get to despise these ups and downs. thanks Faith for the response. Deanna
faith Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Is it possible you also saw some increase along the line when using penvk too? sometimes we all get a little nervous on changing things, (I know I do this all the time), so the first sign of something different, other than a definite decrease, kind of sends us in a panic. is there any possibility that when something is actually beginning to work (like decreasing inflammation in the brain), there is actually a little movement there, like picture swelling going down, so that may stir things up a bit for a short time? this is just my total guessing here. maybe that's why some of us have had trouble with increase using fish oil. most of us stop when seeing an increase in tics, for none of us want to take that chance. but I wonder if its actually helping with the inflammation and the change of size of that area of the brain, however minute, is what causes the initial increase? again, i'm totally speculating here. I wish I had the guts to keep going with the fish oil, but.....no guts. I'd give it a another week and see what happens. Faith

Dr. L also switched us from pen vk to augmentin. This is day 8; and let me tell you we had a great weekend!!!!! Our son is back to 98% (too scared to 100%). The first day or two his symtoms increased; but quickly faded. Hoping and praying that continues to work. I hope it works as well for you guys. Hang in there !!! Michelle

P_Mom Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Michelle....Latimer just switched my younger son to Augmentin this week....we just gave him his first dose tonight. If this doesn't do the trick...we will do IVIG. I am glad you are having good results...hopefully we will, too. Kelly
faith Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Kelly, why did you switch? did your son have increase in symptoms? did Dr. L. say IVIG, or you are still trying to persue it thru your local doc? Faith
P_Mom Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Dr. Latimer did recommend IVIG for him this week on our phone consult....she put him on Augmentin "until we could get the IVIG done." She mentioned it may also improve his symptoms....but, she just said "may." We'll see. Still waiting for the call back from my immunologist up here....she told the receptionist on Friday that she didn't forget about us and is still working on things. Latimer took her name and number and told me she would call her herself when she had time. I am giving it until Wednesday before I call again. Latimer said she would do the IVIG if it couldn't be arranged up here.
