pixiesmommy
I know there are a few of us and I'm still speculating and playing with common links. Just curious how many of us have seen the "switch flip" on or near the child's birthday? For Pixie, we have unexplained bouts of fever and she completely tanks out (exhaustion, tantrums, etc) every year at her birthday. (Which is Sept 3, for what it's worth)

Worried_Dad
Wow - this is freaky. My son's symptoms started with joint pain that moved around (polyarthritis, classic symptom of rheumatic fever) in April 2007. But his first "seizure-like episode" - the start of the neuropsychiatric symptoms that eventually triggered a Sydenham's chorea diagnosis - happened on his 11th birthday (in June). We were on our way out to dinner at his favorite restaurant when it hit, and we spent the evening in the ER instead. Maybe birthday excitement triggers "overload" in their inflamed brains? For our son, any major stressor (good or bad, anxiety or excitement) seems to make the tics / twitching worse.
mama2alex
For my son it was two days before his 9th birthday party - 5 days before his actual birthday.
monarchcat
Interesting! I've always said that my son's behavior changed in the few weeks after his 5th birthday. He wasn't ticcing then, but he began getting very irritable, having temper tantrums (where he had never had them before, even as a baby/toddler), hitting and kicking. I believe now that that was the beginning of PANDAS for him.
ajcire
Ok, that is a bit weird.. my ds is early august, the first time I really knew something was wrong (not the in hindsight things) was the end of August. This year it was early sept but I think that is because he started school and instantly got strep.
peglem
My daughters problems have been going on so long, it seems like her whole life has been one huge exacerbation! But, I think, actually the bigger episodes correlate more with the school year than with her birthdate...October 1st.

T_Mom
Ah, yes, ...is this coincidental or what, both of my daughters had "issues" which started two weeks before their birthdays two years ago. OCD issues for one d and emotional swings with raging for the other. It was right after Halloween and I thought that maybe they had somehow gotten some horrible thing in their candy... One daughter had full-blown PANDAS issues within 2 months, the other got better but things surfaced later.

michele
Vickie that is too bad he got a fever on his birthday. That is odd though the coincidence. How does he respond to fevers? Andrew has had a risidual effect after fevers where he can get blinking and and jerking movements. Do you give him Motrin? I hurry to give Andrew fever reducer because I worry of the long term effecs of the fevers. Fevers always seem to come at the beginning of his episodes. I am glad he was well all day and enjoyed his birthday! I thought I'd update the bday pattern since it was my son's bday yesterday. So, no setback and it was a great day. At bedtime (8:00pm), I remembered pixiesmommy's post about unexplained fevers so I checked his temp. He had a temporal temp of 98.7. But, get this...at 11pm, my husband went to check on the kids. He said Josh was burning hot. He now had a temp of 101.5! All he had on his was a sheet and summer weight knit blanket. We uncovered him and checked on him on and off until my husband went to bed around 1am. At that point, he still had a fever. This morning...he's fine again. Weird.
