ameecram
My son is 4 years old, has had tics on and off since he was 2. We did see a neurologist a year ago who thinks he will outgrow these tics. Sometimes he has motor tics, but lately frequent throat clearing is happening with TV, eating, reading books, being out in a public place. Any time he is excited or anticipating something he starts clearing his throat. It does wax and wane, but right now it's very frequent. His regular doctor has given us no course of action besides seeing the neurologist again. I'd like to start mag, but don't know know where to begin with all of this. Our doctor said he could test levels, but he just thinks they will all come back normal. What kind of mag should I start and how much, he is 42lbs and 4 years old. And then should I start calcium as well. He also has many enviromental allergies too. Should I get levels tested?? Thanks so much!
Chemar
Hi and welcome Kids Calm ionic magnesium is a good place to start IMHO. It is usually cheapest at iHerb but the Vitamin Shoppe often has all the Natural Calms on sale too http://www.iherb.com/Peter-Gillham-s-Natur...226-g/5120?at=0 another great way to give magnesium is transdermally via epsom salts baths....for a little one like yours a cup of epsom in a warm tub.we use 2 cups for older kids environmental allergies (as well as food intolerances) can be major tic triggers so getting those tests done and then attempting to eliminate can make a big difference thankfully the neuro is correct in that many young kids do seem to have what are known as transient tics, which do seem to resolve eventually. However, trying to identify triggers and do what you can is always a good idea may I ask if you noticed any increase in tics after vaccinations? dental visits? had you had any new carpeting, painting or woodwork done in the home prior to the tics starting? new car? san70
Ameecram, Welcome! Have you examined your son's diet? Have you eliminated artificial flavors and colors? Do you give your son a multivitamin? My son is 8 1/2 and weighs 50 lbs. He has had tics for over 3 years but definitely longer since I can look back at things he had done as a toddler and say that they, too, were tics. He is on a multivitamin and takes calcium. I give him magnesium taurate. San
ameecram
Thank you for replying. I wasn't really aware he was having "tics" so long ago, just looking back I can see that's what they were, so I don't really know if it was related to vaccines or anything. One more question, do you think it's a good idea to get mag levels checked before starting the kids calm, or do you think I'm safe to go ahead with things. My regular doctor is much into this sort of thing. Any other supplements you would recommend?? Thank you!!! Hi and welcome Kids Calm ionic magnesium is a good place to start IMHO.
