CSP Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Hi All, My son's acupuncture Dr. would like to compound some Chinese Herbs. He was looking into something that would help lower dopamine. Has anyone have any info on Chinese herbs at all, or does anyone use them? CP
EAMom Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Hi, be careful about herbs, esp. from China or India as there have been reports of these herbs being contaminated with high levels of lead/mercury etc. I also just read about problems with Indian herbs yesterday. http://www.mercurynews.com/health/ci_10314339?source=rss Is the dr. growing his own herbs or are they imported? Maybe the herbs would be safer if you grew your own...I would be very leary of any herbs improted from China (esp. after the melanime pet food fiasco!) With some of the herbs it appears to be a problem with the lead content of the soil that the herbs are grown in. Here's another article: Some Chinese medicines may be toxic ASHLAND, OREGON. Investigators at the U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Forensics Laboratory report that they have found potentially toxic levels of arsenic and mercury in Chinese herbal balls. Herbal balls are a mixture of medicinal herbs and honey and are dissolved in warm wine or water and then drunk as a tea. The investigators analyzed the balls as part of their effort to prevent the importation of products from endangered species. They found that the mercury content in the 32 balls tested varied between 7.8 and 621.3 mg per ball while the arsenic content varied between 0.1 and 36.6 mg. The most contaminated preparation was An Gong Niu Huang Wan from the Tung Jen Tang Pharamaceutical Factory in Nanjing. These balls contained between 3.21 and 36.6 mg of arsenic and between 80.7 and 621.3 mg of mercury, most likely in the form of sulfides. The investigators warn that chronic poisoning has been reported in people ingesting as little as 10 mg per day of arsenic sulfide and among people ingesting approximately 260 mg per day of mercury sulfide. patty Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 CP, My son has taken a compounded chinese herb from his acunpuncturist. Just make sure the pills come from a reputatble manufacturer. IMO, stay away from the actual herbs becasue it is hard to determine if it has any toxic substances. What kind of chinese herb can lower dopamine? Since you are doing NAET with your son, i would recommend you have his dopamine rebalance via NAET, it is much safer than to take herbs. My son had his dopamine and other neurotransmitters rebalanced via Bioset and did not have adverse effects. The thing i like about NAET & Bioset, if it doesn't work, it does not cause a spike in symptoms. However, there might be a slight & temperary aggrevation from NAET due to the 25 hrs. clearance period. Pat
