bmom
I was just wondering if the need to frequently urinate (like every second) is usually associated with PANDAS and not just tics or tourettes? Is this true or no? Thanks all who can add.
faith
I know some have talked about that as a symptom of the PANDAS, however, I did want to point out my husband used to be like that alot, not every second, but he was well known for having to go quite often and was uncomfortable holding it even for 5 or 10 minutes, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have PANDAS . The doctor suggested cutting down on coffee, soda (caffeine), etc. But I guess for kids its a little different, but just wanted to mention that its probably not that uncommon a symptom in general. Pamela Kay
My oldest son has gone through times when he frequently felt the need to urinate I am pretty sure he does not have pandas either.
peglem
Frequent urination is also a symptom of yeast infections.
bmom
Well, my son had a day last year when he did the frequent urination thing- kept having to go. We then took him to the doctor that day and had him checked for bladder infection and strep as he was complaining of sore throat and I suspected he may be PANDAS. He was strep positive and both problems stopped with antibiotics. This time around he was sick again with fever and sore throat, but was already on antibiotics for trying to reduce tics (we are trying to determine if he is PANDAS). Took him in to hospital just to check and he was strep negative. That night I had given him probiotic because he has been on antibiotics. I am weary of giving these to him as he seems to react to probiotics badly (like PMOMs children.) After that he could not sleep that night and was up until 4:30 going back and forth every second to the bathroom. The next day tics were down and no more bathroom problems. Could it have worked on yeast that quickly? Maybe I should have him tested for yeast. His spit test always comes out fine. He said no burning or itching during peeing. cmnsahm
hello, I found this article (http://www.neurologyreviews.com/apr02/pandas.html) while researching PANDAS on the internet. My son is 7 and has had strep, frequent urination, tics, and ADHD. I am concerned that he has PANDAS and plan to pursue this with our pediatrician this week. Thought you might find it interesting. michele
My son definately had this urination frequency feeling. We had him worked up for bladder infections before we realized this is a key symptom of PANDAS. I don't know if it is a compulsive urge or a bladder tic but we have had it on many occasions when his episodes were waxing. Now that we are on long term Omnicef this feeling has gone away and he has been having a better time with his symptoms in general. When the tics were waxing the urination seemed worse too. When we saw Dr. Murphy in Florida at Shands, she said this is a classic PANDAS symptom. By the need to urinate, he would no sooner leave the bathroom and flush then he would be running back in to try to go again. It was constant all day back and forth trips to the toilet every couple of minutes. He may have had yeast also during this time. His markers for yeast were elevated and we gave him Nystatin for a couple months. He still has some ADHD, obsessiveness, and verbal tics (loud noises) but the urination problems are gone. In the article that was posted here it mentioned fears and he does have them. He is always very cautious of getting injured and he is six so most boys are tough by six but he is a worrier. Michele I was just wondering if the need to frequently urinate (like every second) is usually associated with PANDAS and not just tics or tourettes? Is this true or no? Thanks all who can add.
