Guest Jean
Claire, Thanks for your quick response! Your son sounds like mine. He doesn't have TS but TICs only. What are your sons tics? My son's doctor asked us not to worry too much but to ignore them as they'll be disappeared within a year. Do you have the same suggestion from your doctor? How long has your seen had them? Thanks again!
Guest Jean
Claire, Sorry for the typo (I usually type quick as I'm at work). My last question was: how long has your son had TICs? Thanks!
Claire
Hi Jean, I have read that 30% of boys get childhood transient tics. That is 20% of all kids get them, but 2x as many boys get them as girls. My son had tics for 2 months before we figured out their was a direct cause--this was just before his 8th birthday. Since then, he tends to go 6 months with no tics, then he gets exposed to TV and gets tics for a week, then another 6 months. He probably wouldn't have them at all anymore since we know the trigger, but we do experiment occasionally. He is now 10. Actually, as I think of some of your posts, they do have some similarities, don't they? So we should keep eachother posted on what works! Guest Guest_efgh
Jean How frequent are your son's tics now and what are they?. How is the body bio oil working? My son when he had his head nodding tics (his first tic) had it as frequent as once in 10 seconds and now its practically very minimal but he has started with vocal tics (continuous Mm sound especially while watching TV or when he is idle). Claire, does your son have motor or vocal tics when watching TV ? thanks for your mail on allergy stuff. Would try to get that stuff. do you suggest going in for LCD monitors for TV is worth it?? Do you both follow Feingold diet these days? thanks again.
Guest Jennifer
Jean, Sorry I haven't responded sooner-been really busy with Christmas preparations and all. How is your son doing now? We started our son out at 1/2 tblsp. as well and noticed no increase in tics, but I can say that in the past whenever I introduced someting new his tics always got a little worse- which seems to be something very normal for tic disorders. I think I may have mentioned in one of my other posts that at time we introduced the oil we had been detoxing, changed his diet and using supplements for about a year. The oil was kind of the last puzzle piece. He had allready been through his detox symptoms earlier in the year. It is very normal to temporarily get worse before you get better- it is referred to as the "healing crisis". You may even want to back down to a !/2 tsp a day for a while. Guest Jennifer
Claire, Thanks for all those really good websites you posted. Sounds like your son eats very healthy! I think I did mention probiotics. I'm very big on them. That is something that he takes daily along with his other supplements. efgh, I haven't personally used St. John's Wort. I know it is used for children, but have not researched the safety or anything like that so I really can't say. I think I'm going to look into it though. Our son's tics have vanished, but his sleep and moods are really off. I had to discontinue 5-htp because it wired him, Gaba seems to be doing the same thing. I bought some activated B-6 which is doing the same thing. His nervous system seems to be really over stimulated right now. Maybe the St. john's Wort would have more of a calming effect. It seems like the supplements that have a calming and energizing effect on the body are having more of the energizing effect on him. I'll have to figure this one out-maybe he doesn't need alot of his supplements anymore? If I don't get back on before Christmas I want to wish all of you a wonderful holiday!!!! Guest Guest_efgh
Jennifer , tks for all the useful info. my son eats healthy. will check with my doc about his weight loss. But he does a lot of physical exercise these days. What do you do to help your son wrt his sleep and mood? any specific supplements?? Heard Magnesium taurate is too good as a sleep aid. I know you are giving Magnesium Chloride in drops form to your son. What are the ocd tendencies that your son has now? Does he have fears too? HAVE A GREAT CHRISTMAS ALL OF YOU. Claire
efgh, Jennifer Jennifer, I linked this ACN thread to Braintalk where they are discussing fatty acid proportions (under the gluten sensitivity thread) --I hope you don't mind! One person seemed to be adament that we get enough Omega 6's and others think we need more, so I thought your insights from Dr. Kane might further the discussion. It is a bit scary to me, that even for food supplements, the ratio can be so key! Jennifer, we are at the same point--no tics, but sleep issues and moods--but his 'mood' is fears. The fears never totally went away after his last bout of tonsilitis. However, the sleep issues have been around since he was a baby. Other babies sleep ave. of 16 hour days--it took work to get him to have 12. Plus he frequently wakes up in the middle of the night. efgh, my son never had vocal tics, just facial tics (and only once a shoulder tic). If your son reacts during TV then yes I do recommend the LCD monitor, set to a lower brightness level, viewed only in a well-lit room where he sits across the room from it. I would just check the return policy, it took us a full week to notice improvement. If you buy the computer/TV monitor I posted on the other thread, it won't go to waste regardless--they are great computer monitors anyway--soon they will all be LCD. We leave in 2 hours, by all. Merry Christmas again! Claire
Guest Jean
Jennifer, Thanks for your reply! I may retry again with 1/2 tbs then. efgh, My son's tic is mainly eye rolling with occasionally head nodding. He has been doing much better since last week (i.e., eye rolling only showed off around 10+ times a day vs. he had it every 2 - 3 minutes before). I stopped the body bio yesterday (he took it for 3 days) as I noticed that his eye rolling increased after he started it. I may wait for another week and retry again. That's what happened to him last time after he had the flax seed oil. In fact, his tics improved after I stopped the flax seed oil. That makes me wonder if it's so called "healing crisis". Yes. I still don't let him eat apples, almonds. etc. It's been 2nd month for now. I'll introduce more food in a month. Wish every family and your family members to have a very HAPPY Christmas, and a GREAT NEW YEAR!
Guest Guest_efgh
Jean, how about oranges?? you don't give him oranges/tomatoes too?? Do you think such food elimination has helped your son?
Guest Jean
Dear efgh, Just got back from our trip. I did eliminate oranges and tomatoes during the time.I can’t really tell how much the food elimination helps his tics. I am more interested in finding foods that my son may be allergic to, so I guess that we’ll have to start from the base line. However, it’s hard to keep it while traveling with a group people (with many kids). Sorry for not being much help! Hi All, Happy New Year! For those of you who have experience of using Chlorella and B-complex, could you please tell me how much Chlorella and B-complex should I give to my son, who is 7 yrs old and weights 65 lbs? Have you heard any side effect of Chlorella? Can I just use adult one with reduced dosage? As my son is also grinding his teeth at night (actually it’s getting worse these days), I am thinking to introduce both Chlorella and B-complex to him. Thanks in advance for your response! Chemar
Hi Jean and happy New Year to you too. I honestly dont know how to recommend doseage re chlorella, except that I believe 1/2 the adult dose is usually recommended for children under 12. Chlorella does initially cause mild nausea in some people. I assume you are giving it to help re mercury? Also, with B complex....we find the B co can cause constipation and do better as a family by taking a multi with high B and then adding the essential B's individually. However, some people seem to tolerate B complex very well without this side efeect. RE-TEETH GRINDING My son used to have this really badly until we started supplementing with Vit B5(Pantothenic Acid) It is excellent to stop this bruxism and he does not grind at all anymore. We also give him Royal Jelly capsules as this was recommended as being high in general nutrients, especially the B's and very good for the grinding and jaw clenching too. Guest Jean
Chemar, Thank you very much for your useful information! My son has constipation since he was little. Maybe I should avoid B-complex instead of giving him the supplements with high B. You mentioned "taking a multi with high B and then adding the essential B's individually". Could you please provide me more detail info. (i.e., brand name, dosage)? Which brand of multi-Vitamin and what kind of supplements that you give to your son? For Chlorella, I have read some information mentioned that it'll help allergy . His allergy is still not under control. I suspect that my son's tics and his allergy related (i.e., bad allergy then more tics). Thanks again!
Claire
I found an AAEM/DAN doctor today. DAN protocols are apparently leading the way for the type of neurological diagnostics some of us newbies are looking for, even though the initial focus was autism. We will see him next week and he said he will run a number of tests on my son, from fatty acids to RAST spectrums (with both IgE and IgG) to metal toxicity tests. We talked live on the phone and he was wonderful. He said depending on what we find, he may refer me elsewhere for follow-up. I am stopping the fatty acid supplementation I had just started my son on, so as not to mess up his tests. Here is a DAN link--remember, it isn't just for autism. You can look at each doctor and they say whether they handle fatty acids, Feingold, allergies, etc... http://autism.com/ari/ Claire
Guest Guest_efgh
Claire, Goodluck to you with your son's tests. Please keep us posted. Good that you found a suitable doctor. Jean, welcome back. Did you start your son again on Body bio oil? Any feedback on this? How are your son's tics now ? I am planning to start my son on this , by this week. As of now, flax seed oil seems to be really helping him.
