EEG Results

Some if not many of us had EEG test done with our children. I was wondering what were the test results.

My daughter had an 8 day VEEG. No seizure activity was identified, but the neurologist said the highly abnormal activity throughout was consistent with somebody who does have seizures. That, with the episodes we were seeing at home, resulted in a rx for lamictal, which has been helpful.

Hello Andy.

My daughter had a twenty minute sleep deprived EEG. It came back abnormal. (at least that is what the neurologist said)

He ordered another one. This time a 24 hour one. We spent the night there.

$5,000 out of pocket! later he said that the second one was normal. He did notice that she was like an acrobat while she slept so suggested giving her melatolin before bed everynight. The melatolnin works great for her but I felt like we did not come away with any answers.....just empty bank accounts.

MRI was then ordered by the same neuroligist.

my oldest son had one when he was about 8/9? They said it didn't show anything, but that they are not very accurate at that age because it's hard for the kids to stay still enough to get a lot of useful info. I wish I would have requested a copy of the report to read myself, now.

He also had, an MRI (i think). It was the open machine that looks like a big donut. He had an IV. This was done because of headaches. Again, I was told it was ok, and again, I wish I had the report. I suppose I could still get them if I tried hard enough.

Huh? My daughter was wired up and monitored for 8 days- she is very hyper and active- I assumed they could tell the difference between seizures and motor activity.

I don't know how old your son is now, but the report should still be in his medical records and you should be able to get a copy.

we had one EEG done by neuro as part of the routine work up when we had our first visits regarding the tics. It was normal.

Andy, I am wondering why you are inquiring about this? How are things going with your son these days? Are you thinking of having and EEG done?

We had an EEG done to rule out seizures and it indicated slow response in the posterior parietal cortex. Was sent for a MRI to see if there was tumor, vien problem, stroke damage, etc.. in that area. Nothing showed.

Son is doing ok, not as good as when we were doing the DMPS IV's, regarding tics, but good enough.

He is in third grade and reading on the 10th grade level but still, at times, freeze's up-zoning out type of tic with any writing assignment. When he's on with his writing he has scored perfect grade level rubric scores so it has nothing to do with being able to write but an issue with transfer of thought to paper at times. Got him a 504 plan the second try around. The first try was more of educating everyone involved. Needs extended time and redirection, when needed, for writing.

Peglem.

I had to laugh at your response. I was thinking that we probably didn't have "the best" test available out there. Our local hospital sure didn't have a very good rep as far as their imaging equip goes, back then. Since that time, they have updated somewhat. The yellow lines in the parking lot are now more the width of a car, instead of a dinosaur.

What I remember about the test was all of the electrodes, and the strobe light. Was that a true EEG?

No no Peglam, when we switched from the Ped to a family physician and I requested a full copy of their medical file transfered to new Dr. I was told that they didn't really need anything except their vax record. I told them that I would come in to pick up the files. They said that they would send it to new office. I said "no, I would rather pick them up." Then I was told it would be 40.00 per file if I picked them up. I asked why they would possibly charge me, if there was no charge to send it. I was told, it was because I might lose them! Sounds like quality medical care, hau?

As far as the MRI report, don't you know that they ship that stuff off to a data storage company. Useless stuff like that! Probably cost me $1000.00 to get a hold of that.

Hmmm, I have on several occaisions requested and recieved copies of my daughter's medical records. I usually have to pay for them- something like 5 cents a sheet for copy cost. By now, her file is the size of a grand novel. Now, I just order the past year and add it to what I have. It sure comes in handy when we go see specialists, or if we "switch" specialists (translates to old specialist didn't do diddly). I pull out the labs or exam reports that I want them to follow up on. Whenever I get imaging done I request a copy of the test (but not 8 days worth of eeg tracings!) and the report-never had a problem. Another reason that I like to do this is that occaisionally they'll get something wrong on an exam report and I can make sure its accurate.
