jewels
Hello all, I'm getting very confused about giving my dd omega 6, our dr advised us to not give her this, as we were told it would upset her gut and she had also not been tested for PANDAS, at that stage. (She since has been tested and is not a PANDA child). I've read in previous posts lots about O6, and then I came across a paper that has stated the importance of this oil. This paper also stated a ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 of 4 to 1. Alot of the paper was double-dutch to me, so I would love some intelligent imput here. The paper is in relation to neurotoxic syndromes, viruses, bacteria etc, and how omega 6 is required in the body to detox. The thread is http://www.health-report.co.uk/chronic_neu...c_syndromes.htm I don't know if this would connect to TS or tics, but it was really intresting about the need for Omega 6 and what role it plays. Thanks for your insights. Jules.
CSP
Jules, I'm wondering about the omega 6's myself. In the research on coconut oil I have been doing the only info I have is omega 6 fatty acid can weaken our immune systems by increasing inflamation and promoting cell proliferation. Where coconut oil boost the immune systems. I'm not sure how the 6's effect yeast yet, but like the info on the coconut oil. I'm think Dr. Mercola said the omega 3's should be higher then the omega 6's. I'm still learning so I hope someone else will give more details. C.P. Chemar
from the way I understand it............ Omega 6 is an essential fatty acid, and should be supplemented (albeit in lesser amounts than Omega3) especially if the diet is not providing adequate amounts. however anyone with autoimmune-inflammatory issues should avoid additional omega6 (beyond that in a balanced diet) as it stimulates prostaglandins which in turn boost the inflammatory response. Omega 3 dampens the inflammatory response and so is needed in inflammatory illnesses most people get enough omega9 in their diets not to need to supplement with it, and again, we were told to avoid it re inflammation here is mrsD's excellent thread on the EFAs http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/showthread.php?t=6092

Fats/oils are one of their favorite subjects over there.
