Chemar
Hi Judy and welcome, tho so sorry for what brought you here just to add a few things here....please dont be surprised if ER doctors do *not* understand about PANDAS or strep titres etc! many conventional doctors are still very ignorant of all this. I am personally appalled that the pediatrician would give a child who was previously feverish and clearly showing enough alarming symptoms to be taken to ER, a varicella booster It is sad to say but as has been mentioned, the vaccine may well have made the whole situation worse. You would be well advised to first spend time on the internet and phone book finding a physician who is either INTEGRATIVE (ie a conventional doctor also specialized in alternative medicine) or a DAN doctor (specializing in autism treatment but usually very clued up on tics, PANDAS etc) or naturopath, D.0. etc as they have more holistic protocols and generally try to educate themselves on areas like this Phone around and ask specifically if they have treated for tics, PANDAS etc and ask upfront on costs, insurance etc so you dont get any nasty surprises as sadly some can be exorbitant Beginning your grandson on a healthy diet (eliminate all artificial food additives, artificial colors like red40 and yellow 5 etc, no aspartame/nutrasweet or sucralose/Splenda, no MSG, sodium benzoate, high fructose corn syrup etc etc) as well as a good pure multivitamin/mineral and additional magnesium (which the epsom salts baths can also supply if he is not sulfate sensitive) there are many other things that are helpful (you can also take a look at my signature link below on what helped our son) but until you have a more careful diagnosis, it is hard to specifically point to treatments most of all just take things one day a time and steadily eliminate things that make the tics worse, while improving diet and environment. here is a good article on tic triggers http://www.latitudes.org/articles/finding_triggers.htm I pray you will find clear answers and treatments for your grandson
CSP
OK Carolyn, I graduated high school in Tempe, all this AZ talk is making me miss the sunny weather. Then I remember the heat... just stick my head in the oven and remember why I left. My sister lives in Queen Creek so I do get out there sometimes. This is a nice time of year for you, hope you are soaking up lots of sun. Not too bad here today 65. C.P.
CarolynN
Judy, Chemar posted about the DAN Doctors. I looked up on the list and did not see any in Flagstaff. Here is the list. Just scroll down and you will see the ones in Arizona. One of my friends did go to Dr. Cindy Schnider and liked her a lot. http://www.autismwebsite.com/practitioners/us_lc.htm . Have a blessed day! CarolynN
Judy, One other piece of information I found was a list of Integrative Doctors in Arizona that Chemar also suggested looking into. Again, unfortunately, there does not seem to be any in your area . I have no idea how comprehensive this list is and what organization this is but I thought it might get you started somewhere http://www.acamnet.org/site/apps/kb/cs/con...242497&raw= Carolyn N. CSP Neat to hear you lived in Arizona too. I have lived here since I was 11 and cannot imagine living anywhere else. I am sort of strange but I actually enjoy the heat of the summer. I love getting in a swimming pool that feels like bath water. I am a real baby when it comes to being cold! I know when I visit my in laws, who live in Oregon, in the summer I just freeze up there. So I think I will be here a long time.
