NeuroScience Supplements Effective?

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering if anyone has particular thoughts as to Neuroscience Products. My Naturopathic Doctor has recommended, after doing the urine Neurotransmitter test to put him on a product called TravaCor Jr. The amino acid blend is Taurine, 5-HTP, and L-Theanine for a combined doseage of 226mg. It is has very minimal B vitamins. I have done enough research to understand that the B vitamins are extremely important. The product also has has very minimal Magnesium which is also very key. My doctor told me for two weeks just to use the Travacor Jr., a multi-vitamin, and omega 3.

I have been using the TS-Plus through Bonnie Grimaldi's plan and also using some other amino acids. Daniel would still have some symptoms if exposed to his offending agents (msg, yellow 5, red 40, and high fructose corn syrup) or being sick but certainly was better then he started the Ts-Plus. He was on this for over 6 months. But trying to get all the supplements in him almost became worse then the tics themselves. So I have been seeking other ways to treat him and hence the neurotransmitter test.

Also, as a side note, Daniel's serotonin levels were great. At least according to the test. The 5-HTP is blended in with the other amino acids so he will be increasing his serotonin. I am not feeling very comfortable about having him on a product his body is not needing.

He started the product yesterday and my confidence level is just not very high that it will be effective for him. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Carolyn

I honestly dont know of the NeuroScience products, so can comment on them

However, I would absolutely agree that it seems "off" to be giving your son that which he doesnt need ESPECIALLY neurotransmitters, because even the slightest change in these can have big results!! especially in anyone who is already having a neurological issue

One also does have to be VERY careful with amino acids as some (like taurine and L-carnitine) are very frequently beneficial to those with tics and TS but others(like tyrosine and even phenylalanine can accentuate tics because of their effect on the dopaminergic system

When it comes to supplementing Bs, I agree that they are so very important but one also has to be careful in the method of delivery as some people (including me and my son) just dont do well on those B complex pills and benefit rather by individual Bs or even from Royal Jelly, which is a natural and rich source of B vits. See, for some, they only need to supp with some of the Bs, not ALL(we had a thread here in the past on this, and discussing methylation etc)

As to magnesium, that really is a key element in supplementing for tics ...many parents here are pleased with the results they have seen from the Kids Calm and Natural Calm powdered magnesium drinks, and of course the Epsom salts (mag sulfate) baths are just so beneficial

I thik the major problem with young kids and Bonnie's supps is the fact that they have to take so many....one of the reasons why some of us prefer to put together our own combos from different sources. The very good thing tho with BonTech supps is that they ARE so carefully and specially formulated. I know some parents have found that mixing the contents into smoothies etc is the only way they can get them in to young kids

Chemar,

Thank you so much for the wonderful advice. I have been spending so much time researching alternate ways to get all these vitamins.

The question I have regarding the Kid Calm is it is straight magnesium with no calcium. Since typically it is given in a 2 to 1 ratio would it not drain the body of calcium quickly? I would love to give him products that are children friendly!!!
