Chemar Posted May 13, 2007 Report Posted May 13, 2007 A new member, Jane.c , has asked me to post her PM here on the board for input from other members My son is 13 and was diagnosed with TS 18 months ago. We live in the north-west of England and there are no specialists nearby (that I can discover). I have read about Bonnie Grimaldi's vitamins and am keen for my son to try them. Is there anyone from the UK who has ordered them from the US? I would like to know what sort of costs are involved and would I have to pay import duty? I have tried to buy the individual vitamins locally but some of the tablets are so huge he can't swallow them and this has put him off. He also has OCD involving complicated routines at bedtime. He manages to control his tics to a great extent when at school but is full of tics at home when 'relaxed' and is much worse when tired or stressed. I would love to help him and I don't want him to take any prescription medication, which is all we have been offered so far. I hope someone can give me some advice.
Chemar Posted May 14, 2007 Author Report Posted May 14, 2007 Jane I do seem to recall that just recently we had another member from UK here who needed to order products online too. I am not sure if she is still posting here. The best way to enquire re Bonnie's supplements is to send her an email via her website at www.bonniegr.com If your son is struggling with swallowing pills tho, he may have a problem with BonTech supps, not because they are large, but because a number have to be taken I am not sure if the drinkable magnesium powder "Natural Calm" is available there, but many of our members are reporting much success with it. You could also try the Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) baths (2 cups epsom salts in tub warm water: soak for 20-30 min bf bed) Those are two ways of at least getting the magnesium in I sent you a PM re the OCD too
Cum Passus Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Welcome Jane, I can't help you with the questions about shipping costs, but I wanted to welcome you. My son was dx about 14 months ago too, and he is 13 also. I found the Natural Calm to be what started the ball rolling in the right direction for him. He also tics more with stress and when he is tired. My son does not have OCD though. If you can I would try some B6 also that has had a wonderful effect on my son. I believe that is because his test results say he has an impaired trypotohan metabolism. Trypyophan is in meat and turns into serotonin in the brain. Serotonin helps to avoid agitated feelings. B6 helps the tryptophan to convert to serotonin. I hope this helps a little. I know everyone is different and what has helped my son may not be what yours needs, but maybe the Magesium & B6 support will help with the stress. Lowering the stress in my son's life has been a blessing. Good Luck, C.P.
Dedee Posted May 14, 2007 Report Posted May 14, 2007 Hi Jane, Sorry I don't have much time. I just wanted to say that I understand your reluctance to start your son on alot of medications. You may want to read the article someone posted recently on Inositol in the treatment of OCD and anxiety disorder. Inositol is one of the B vitamins and also it is a water soluable vitamin, so the body will filter via the kidneys what is not needed. That means it is not possible to overdose your child. That makes me feel better. It shows very good results in treating OCD in studies compared to medications. Scroll through the archives and you will run across it. My mother started on it recently to overcome some anxiety she has been having after her surgery. She believes it has helped her. Good luck with your son. Dedee
