Rachel
My son has been having a rough time with viruses the last several months. I know there are many herbal and natural supplements that can help keep this under control. He does take vitamin C with rose hips and a citrus bioflavonoid complex and L-lysine 1000mg. I was wondering if there was just something better that I could give that would provide a better defense against viruses. For some reason his body picks them up very easily. He has been in and out of the hospital for IVIG treatments which does not help this. Within a week to 10 days after being in the hospital, he seems to come down with a virus. My son just had his 3rd LD IVIG treatment and has a runny nose. Any suggestions on supplements?
Chemar
Olive Leaf Extract and MonoLaurin(lauricidin from coconuts) are two of the best anti-virals I know of in addition to the L-Lysine you mentioned There are others as well like Oregano oil, Colloidal Silver, Elderberry, Pau D'Arco, ST JOHN’S WORT, GARLIC, ECHINACEA etc

ktdommer
How old is your son? What viral testing has he had done? Anything like HHV6? We take prescription Valtrex. For supplements we take VirusStop and Enhansa. Also OLE and GSE. Some of these dually hit bacteria. One son did Lauricidin pellets for a year. Also tried BRM4. research nutritionals has a couple of products we've used in the past.
WorriedDADNMOM
This is what our Integrative DAN Pedi does with us.........I would recommend a good QUALITY multivitamin that has plenty of Zinc, Vit C and Vitamin A amongst many other things. These would be in the multi vitamin. However, doing an increase "sick protocol" in these three during a sick period would help. I personally have started taking my kiddos daily vitamins and then taking zinc and vit c when I feel cold coming on. I can kick a virus in as little as 1-2 days feeling back to normal. We also used Lauricidin (monolaurin) for our kiddos and we have had a great two past winters. DAN is taking us off.........we shall see how they do. Still using Enhansa and Enhansa Repair. Rachel
Thanks for sharing the supplements. I'm doing some research. I have started my son on Monolarin. He is 14 and tends to pick up the viruses easily since hospital stays. He is also taking zinc and Vitamin C supplements. I have to be careful and watch his blood pressures with certain suplements. I use fresh garlic and other herbs in recipes. He has been checked for viruses and shows the antibodies from the past exposures. My goal is to try and find something that will help keep these at bay. When he comes home from hospital treatments, something usually shows up within the next 10 days. Like a runny nose or sore throat. Is there a supplement that works better on the respitory viruses? T_Anna
Integrative neurologist just recommended ViraStop for DS16 who has many virus issues (HHV6 & Coxsackie). We are also doing Valtrex and Reishe. We just doubled the Reishe and hope to titer off Valtrex in a few months. T.Anna
