philamom
We r scheduled for the 3 wk program this summer with Dr. Rahman. Main reasons we are going is for a severe fear of vomiting and a fear of eating anywhere without me. There is a chance it may be bumped up to end of the month. Can you explain the difference between the two buildings of Ronald McDonald House (West and ?) . Are they different locations? Which one is quiet and which one is the busier one? Is there a tv on the property? Also, any other recommended places to stay? Like to have a back up plan. Thanks in advance. I know I probably asked this question before - just moving forward. dcmom
We stayed at the larger house RMH east. It was like a small hotel- there is a reception desk, several living rooms, a large kitchen (with actually at least 4 kitchens in it) and a large dining area. There is an outdoor patio and play area. Each bedroom has two double beds and a private bath. There are no tvs in the rooms, but there is one per floor, and two downstairs- which we found we could usually use if we wanted. It is basic (think Holiday inn?) yet very clean. The staff and volunteers are beyond wonderful and supportive. The other families as well. For our experience it was fairly quiet all day. Most families either have someone in the hospital that they spend the day with, or are there for treatment. Volunteers cooked pretty elaborate dinners for the house every day, and at that time most families would return and all eat in the dining room. I have to say, it was a wonderful experience, and in the end a great complement to the therapy: perspective. We have come to cook dinner as much as we can at our local RMH- it really is the house that love built.

philamom
Anyone else have other recommendations for hotels or housing near USF? thx
mdmom
We rented a home for 3 weeks on St. Pete Beach for a very reasonable price. The drive to Rothman was only 15 minutes. It was worth every penny b/c you will only be at Rothman 1 hour a day and being within walking distance to the beach was relaxing for my son and made his Rothman homework less stressful. We used VRBO.com
airial95
You can also look on the other side of the bridge in Tampa. Hotels near the airport are a convenient drive to Rothman, and then you also have easy access to other Tampa attractions like the Aquarium, Busch Gardens, etc... if you're interested. Dedee
We did the same...rented a condo on the beach at St. Pete. It was so relaxing and made sort of a vacation out of it. We also used VRBO. We are going back this summer for a one week "refresher". Since my daughters regular therapist is no longer there we will be seeing Dr. Rahman this time. We saw him for a couple of days before when dd other therapist was at a conference and I think he is wonderful. With the three of our children, we have been to Rothman several times but we have never stayed at RMH. I have always heard great things about it though. philamom
Is the St Pete Pier closed down? You can also look on the other side of the bridge in Tampa. Guest
I live in Florida. Can someone tell me if they treat adults? Also, have ya'll had good experiences? Thanks.
lfran
They do treat adults, and many of the families on this board have had extremely good experiences there. They take insurance and they have both OCD therapists and medical doctors there, who are specialists in PANDAS. They offer both intensive therapy (one or more sessions a day) and traditional, once a week therapy. The Ronald McDonald house is where you can stay for free/very low cost while receiving treatment there. Not sure if it is limited to families with kids or if it is also open to adults. airial95
Yes - I believe the pier is closing this week. The paper has been having a countdown. However - its a big political hot potato right now - so that may change yet.
