patty
Does anyone know or experience that epsom salt bath help with bowel movement? I started to give my son epsom salt bath last week, 2X a week. And i notice his bowel movement improved after the 2nd Epsom salt bath. However, when I stopped the Epsom salt bath, BM goes back to the way it was. My son has always had good BM, on a daily basis, until last year, he took Cingulair for 2 allergy seasons, about 7/8 months altogether. Probably 1 month into it, his BM changed. He is still having BM everyday, but most days, it is not too productive ( i don't want to gross anyone out with details ). Although he hasn't taken Cingulair for almost a year, he BM never returned to the way it was. My son drinks plenty of water, eats fruit & vegetable and excersices almost everyday. Anyone has any suggestions? I once read a post here that "Psyllium" helps with intestinal health and can also eliminate colon toxin, including heavy metal. Has anyone used "psyllium" successfully for BM and heavy metal removal? Is psyllium safe for children? My son is 6.5. Patty
Guest
Maybe it's the magnesium from the epsom salt baths? Carolyn
patty
Carolyn, That's what I thought. Just want to see if anyone have similar experience. So how are you doing? Patty
Andy
Our son's bowel movement problems went away when we took out all gluten products. If a parent has a child with off and on bowel movement problems they may want to keep track of what the child is eatting to see if there is any patterns. There is never one answer to all issues and every child has to be looked individually to see what works and what doesn't.
Claire
Patty, I personnally use guar gum in water for my soluble fiber and yes it helped with 'regularity'. I used to take psyllium husk fiber daily, but over time developed an IgG sensitivity so I had to switch. My husband does the psyllium husk. I have read that psyll. helps move out metals too. We never even tried to get my son to do it. Fortunately he is regular. (Before wheat removal, he did have issues, but I remember you already removed gluten). Certainly epsom salts are taken internally as a laxative. I don't know about the salt bath effect, but certainly it is believable. Glad your son is doing better there, good elimination is important! quan_daniel
Patty, Our son's stool was pebbled like about a year and 1/2 ago, then he started taking magnesium/zinc combo..calcium comes from multivitamin. He stools were so beautiful we almost cried. We then added Culturelle's probiotic and his smelly breath in the morning turns angel like. Well almost angel like... Guest
Patty, I'm doing well. Just very busy with midterm exams and working a 40 hour week at the same time. Tics are mild. Still working to get rid of my face rash/acne. However, it seems to be going away slowly. I'm having a heck of a time with diet. I'm stuck on McDonalds everything, anywhere from cheeseburgers to oreo mcflurries. Fixing my own isn't the same as McDonalds. At work kids eat brownies, cookies, crackers, chocolate milk, and of course I like to join in with them. I'm struggling a lot with diet right now. However, I always struggle with it. I do food allergy shots so that helps a lot. Other than that everythings good. Carolyn

I am amazed at how well you are handling everything, with so much on your plate and at such a young age. It is not easy to undertake the task of managing your own healthcare using alternative methods. Luckily, I am a stay at home mom, otherwise I don't think I can do what I am doing. It is a full time job in itself. I always feel that people that have life challenges often make them stronger (and I don't mean it in a bad way). Hang in there with the diet. I know it must be differcult. I read some place, we are addicted to food that we are allergic to. It's kind of like a withdraw symptom. I don't have food allergies but I do get food craving certain time of the month, and it is awful. If i don't satisfy my craving, I end up eating nonstop and I feel yuckie later. Good luck on your midterm. Are you almost done with school and what are you studying? Just wondering if it is related to health care. I have always been fasinated with alternative treatments, Chinese medicine in particiular since it has helped my son and family a great deal. I am looking into craniosacral therapy, accupressure .... I am getting ready to go back to work in a few years. I want to do something that I have interest and passionate about, esp when it comes to the walfare of my kids. Patty Patty, Our son's stool was pebbled like about a year and 1/2 ago, then he started taking magnesium/zinc combo..calcium comes from multivitamin. He stools were so beautiful we almost cried. Thanks Daniel, How much cal/mag/zinc in mg do you give your son to improve his stool? And what brand. I am using Rhino Calcium but it is in the carbonate form. I want to find another brand that has better absorption and no lead concern. Although the manufacturer said it doesn't contain lead I still want to be safe. Did your son have more symptoms while on Culturelle? My son's ND perscribed probiotic, he took it for about 7 days and had more symptoms for a little over a month. The symptoms did not decrease until he had chiropractic adjustment to bring it down to minimal symptoms. Thx! Patty
Guest
Patty, Yes, we are addicted to the food were allergic to. That is of course the case here, although I don't understand why McDonalds is the satisfying meal to me over my own or another restaurant. I had this similar pattern happen last winter. I would go to McDonalds every night for an oreo McFlurry. On freezing cold nights, I would still go get my mcflurry. Thanks about my midterm. I have five classes left for my A.A. degree and will graduate in June. I'm going to go to a university starting either this next summer or fall. I'm studying to be a teacher, elementary special education major. Carolyn
art
I was under the impression that poor bowel movements were caused by a lack of friendly bacteria in the digestive system? I started giving my son yogurt with live cultures when he became constipated.
quan_daniel
Patty, Please read the vitamin section on enzymestuff. It talks about what a body can break down or not. Carbonate is the worse form of magnesium one can take. If nothing else it will not be absorb by body. I have heard cases people get kidney stones from taking vitamins that are not absorble to the body, calcium for being one. I use kid's calm which only has magnesium/Zinc in soluable form. Calcium from daily intake of multi-vitamin(Freeda's all natural) and one cup of yogurt a day. During this fall season we started to give hime 2 dosages of culturelle in morning and at night. Again the link below talks about it. Please look through it because I know it will answer most of your questions and will help your child greatly. I also had panic attack. I had medicine/pscho therapy. I know I will never get it again. Why, sometimes you just know. Panicking never solve any situations. It makes the whole situation worse. Being happy and calm only helps. ---- from www.enzymestuff.com, a minor excerpt...I hope you can find the right combination in this website. After looking into magnesium for months, what I came away with is that magnesium comes in two types: - soluble forms/organic (aspartate, malate, glycinate, citrate and succinate etc.) - insoluble forms/inorganic salts (chloride, carbonate, oxide). Overall, the chelated magnesium and magnesium glycinate are often referred to as being very absorbable. The soluble ones are pretty equally absorbed and as a group are much better absorbed than the insoluble group. Of the insoluble group, the oxide is the best absorbed. The insoluble group is far more likely to cause loose stools/diarrhea than the other group. If magnesium nutrition is what you want, go for the soluble group. If constipation is the issue, then some insoluble forms are okay. The loose stool effect (if not wanted) can be minimized by taking the magnesium with food.
