philamom
Strep tests keep coming back negative. ASO is high, though. What infection could it be? We have had a ton of blood tests, but nothing shows. He was on anti-biotics for quite some time and now cannot tolerate them since he is so nauseated. What the heck is the infection? I think he has one, also, but we haven't found it. He feels way worse at night, which is common in fighting an infection. So frustrating. Western Blot had zero bands, so not lyme. Thanks He has had 4 over the course of a year and all are 3x abnormal. There are no signs of infection, just high antibodies, but why are they high? Frustrating. He is a great kid. I feel so sorry for him. Actually, the separation anxiety is a big, very significant sign of infection. Just curious where you ran the western blot? I know this is a murky area, but my daughter tests negative thru Quest but positive with Igenex. Last December I ran a borrelia culture from Advanced Lab which was also positive. They sent me a photo of the borrelia from her blood sample. She never yields a positive thru Quest though. Just thought I'd mention. How is your son's nausea since stopping abx? Also, have you ever run any GI stool tests?
SurfMom
Just a thought, but we are in the winter pattern of systems moving through every few days. In front of each line of storms, the air compresses increasing the density of pollutants and allergens in the air. You might want to track symptoms before and after the fronts move through. We are noticing that DD15's symptoms pick up just before an air mass moves through with some lessening of symptoms with Zyrtec.

Thanks Not to beat a dead horse here, but again, my DS never tested positive for strep, nor did Sammy Maloney. But apparently strep was nonetheless the culprit because of the clinical evidence: 1) high ASO, 2) increase of symptoms following exposure, and 3) positive response to abx known for strep-killing potential such as Augmentin and/or zithromycin. The strep test is not the end of the line, and a PANDAS doc knows that. You need to get to a doctor who will examine and consider the entire clinical picture and not stop with a negative swab. 3boysmom
The problems could be the high antibodies themselves. The autoimmune issue thinks he has strep and even after infection is gone, the antibodies are still building because it is misrecognizing. They think that the antibiotics do more than clear infection, but also hold back the antibodies from building.
