Chemar Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Hi Mike the candida fungus lives naturally in the moist parts of our bodies. When it overgrows it becomes a problem (it is called thrush when it occus orally or genitally) And yes, the medical profession is sadly ignorant as a whole about Candida and the havoc it can cause with our health Our physician is not a fan of Nystatin...not because it doesnt necessarily work, but because it is a pharmaceutical, and we tend to always prefer the more natural treatments Also, as Carolyn mentioned, the high sugar content of the oral suspension is disturbing when one is treating a fungus that thrives on sugar Still I know many people (including some of our members here) have had success using Nystatin Do be aware that, as with most pharmaceutical chemicals, it can cause side effects ....mainly nausea, upset stomach If, after completing your course of nystatin, you still dont feel improved, I would really suggest looking in to other ways Threelac has a lot of popularity because it seems to be very fast acting and I have mentioned Candida Clear by NOW, which contains a really superb mix of yeast busters, including magnesium caprylate, Pau D' Arco, Black Walnut, Oregano oil, Uno de Gato, Wormwood, Garlic, Olive leaf etc Also, some people have reported success using the candida remedy from NativeRemedies.com
evie Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 My son was put on Diflucan. He is taking tiny, tiny doses and slowly increasing them week by week. I can't say that I see a major difference yet - it's been about 10 weeks already (we started this at the same time that we went GFCF). I was told that once the candida is pretty much gone, that's when I should really see the results that I am waiting for (less ticcing and better behavior).
Mike in Florida Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Please bear with me here. My book won't be in until thursday so I have some more questions. What can I eat? (after 3 days Iam getting kinda punchy) I think this list will be shorter than what I can't. But just to recap. No sugers, starches, (pasta, rice, potatoes). Since starting the Nystatin on Friday I am feeling much better today. The weekend was rough, but the headaches are gone, and I have a little more energy. Still have the ringing in my ears, but my neck muscles are begining to relax which is the source of my headaches. Thanks for the help.
melissa Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Hi I've been reading the posts on this with great interest. I have a 10 y.o. old daughter and 5 y.o. son who are showing signs of mild tics (I think). After reading Tic's and Tourette's book. The Candida is what struck me as being a possible link to my children's tics. My daughter has ticced on and off for 5 years, we didn't realize what she was doing because the ticcing was minor. This summer the tics seemed to explode - days of continual hopping, she couldn't stand still while she talked, and finally her head began twitching when she tried to talk. I found this site and started vitamin therapy. This helped a lot, tics are very minor if at all and sleeping problems have been eliminated. My sons tic started about one month ago. He darts his eye to the side, and sometimes turn his head sharply or just nods it back and forth. I was wondering if both have Candida. The 5 yo was vaccinated in June, in July he had a round of antibiotics for a sinus infection. I normally don't use antibiotics but his symptoms had gone on for three weeks. The antibiotic made him very sick, and I don't think I finished it. I also didn't administer probiotics (I guess I forgot). Today I took the 10 yo to an environmental doctor near where we live. First, the doctor told me the movements I perceive as tics are not tics, but OCD's. 2nd she prescribed miconazole for Candidas. My daughter had five symptoms listed on the questionnaire and thrush in her mouth.(previously dx as bacteria by our dentist) The doctor didn't do any further testing before dx. My big question is has anyone tried this anti fungal for thrush or yeast? I looked online and it's not to be taken orally, however that is how the doctor prescribed it. The other thing is I'm ordering it from a company in Canada - I wonder why I can't get it here in CA. I'm not sure if I should call the doctor and ask for something else, or just continue trying to help my children on my own. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you. Melissa
kim Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Melissa, I have sent a couple of people, with younger children, a Private message about something in regards to this subject, and have received YES! answers. Since you have a 5 yr. old, I'm wondering if you ever noticed this symptom, which is described in Doris Rapp's book, "Is This Your Child?" I distinctly remember my youngest son, who is now 10, having a red ring around his anus, when he was a baby. I always thought it was odd, because I was almost fanatical about keeping the diaper area clean and frequent changing. This symptom is described in the book that I mentioned above, as being a sign of Candida overgrowth. I'm just curious about how many other people may remember this from their childs infancy? Also, could I ask you what the thrush in your daughters mouth looked like? Was it a white tongue, or white spots on tonsils, or the fleshy part of back of the throat? The bacteria business, is something I've been told too. The product you mentioned for treating yeast, is nothing I've ever heard of on any bds (and I get around a bit, lol). I think your right to really investigate, especially if you have read that it shouldn't be taken orally. There are so many products that are fairly well known, that may be better choices. Interesting about your kids both ticcing around 5. I think many of our kids have symptoms at a much earlier age than what the medical literature states, which I believe is commonly around 7. I didn't know that my oldest son's humming in kindergarden was a tic. I'm so interested in the relationship of onset of symptoms with the timing of vaccines, illness, or any chemical exposures. Thanks for posting and sharing your experience. Kim
melissa Posted November 15, 2006 Report Posted November 15, 2006 Kim: Thanks for your reply. I think my son did have red around his anus as an infant. It's hard to remember because I have four children. I'm pretty sure that it was him, it may have been my youngest or both. My daughter has a coated tongue, I don't see any spots of thrush anywhere else. She had thrush as a baby, and this coated tongue forever. I always wondered why her breath was so bad. Now I know if she cleans her tongue her breath isn't as bad. Have you done the spit test? I thought maybe I could try that on my children and self tomorrow morning. We are trying a modified diet. Elimating sugars and high carbohydrate foods. Very difficult with four hungry children. Thank you.
