patty Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 My son's been having some inflammation in both nose. Sometimes it itches, so he picks at it which cause some abrasion in the left nostril and it has not heal for about 4 months. We tried vit E and antibiotic. It gets better and than it is back. So our ped recommend using Claritin for 2/3 week and antibiotic for the next 10 days. He is aware of my son's tics and doesn't think there is a concern since Claritin is a sedative than a stimulant. Just want to make sure if anyone have more tic symptoms from taking Claritin before I give it to him. Thx for responding. patty
kim Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Patty, Wish I could help, but back when my son was using Claritin, I didn't know enough to watch for triggers, so I can't comment. You can type claritin in the search box, and see if it has been discussed here before. You may also want to try Xylitol nasal spray. May be soothing, and help ward off any infection that may start. Zyrtec has not increased tics for my son at all. In fact, it has helped quite a bit. If the inflammation and itching are caused from allergies, you may want to read through this thread about sodium ascorbate. I didn't know that vit C had an antihistime effect. http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=353318 Kim

I am new to the forum so I am still in the process of figuring things out. You mentioned Zyrtec helps with his tics. Does it reduce tics? And what happens when he is not on Zyrtec, more tics again? patty
kim Posted October 13, 2006 Report Posted October 13, 2006 Patty, Your welcome. That feature can be really helpful. My oldest son had so many allergies with conventional allergy testing, that we have never gone off of Zyrtec. He was prescribed 3 allergy medications, we chose only to use the Zyrtec. It was not apparent to me, that he was loaded with seasonal/environmental allergies. He started to itch intensly at night. His mood was awful. I think his histimine levels were through the roof. His Pediatrician said "just winter dry skin." I was SOOO frustrated. I told him I though we needed an appt. with an allergist (thanks to the info. from this forum). I could have cried when I saw his reaction to the test injections. We are also using Solaray Non citrus Quercetin (bioflavonoids) and Vit. C for allergies, along with Bontech vits and other supplements.
