Mayzoo
does anyone know if the antibiotic Doryx works for PANDAS? Doryx is the same as Doxycycline which is a tetracycline (similar to Minocycline). I have heard on here some using Doxycycline for PANDAS and I have with decent success used Minocyclie. norcalmom
If your child has strep throat - I don't think Doryx or Doxy would be the antibiotic of choice. Doxy is usually used for other infections that are without cell walls, like Mycoplasma and Lyme. so, if your pandas child has those types of infections, then yes, it will be helpful. For strep? I dunno - from what I've read there are other classes of antibiotics that are more effective agaisnt strep.
tpotter
And, honestly, doxy is a pretty strong abx, with some major side effects. It works really well on pneumonia, lyme, and such...everyone in my family has taken it, because we are also dealing with lyme and co-infections. But, DS (now 16) got pancreatitis from it, so it certainly isn't without it's risks. So, unless you suspect other infections (including skin, and some others), your doc may want to try a different one for strep. That being said, many of us on this forum have found that our kids have more than just strep. Here's a link to the NIH website: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000563/ about doryx. MamaOnAMission
My child is 13 and diagnosed with Lyme/Bart., and that is why we are trying the Doryx/Bactrim combination. She has a Cam Kinase of 166 and at first we thought PANDAS, but she has no titers for that. One doctor still thinks its possible to have PANDAS. Anyway...I have a test result that says Lyme/Bart. so I am treating for that, but I was hoping the combinattion that I am giving my daughter may also take care of PANDAS just in case??? Please give me your feed back. Thanks!
