efgh
Hi Chemar A small piece of advice from you please.. As you are aware my 12 year old son's tics are under control now.. I would say that for the past 1.5 years its practically very minimal - not noticeable to any one else . BUT, I notice that since 3 months, his behaviour is not upto the mark. He gets angry/impulsive and irritated for even small reasons.. He gets upset pretty fast for trivial things. It takes around an hour or so for him to settle down. Otherwise , there is no other concern. He excels in studies and in all activities. He is the topper at school and he is the most well behaved kid in the school and is SO SOFT AND WELL MANNERED with his friends and teachers at school. His tantrums are only with me and my husband. Sometimes, its unbearable for us.. Your advice on 1. Why does this happen 2. Is this normal 3. Is it a part of TS (even though one has pretty much outgrown the tics) 4. TIPS/Remedies advice (any specific supplement for this??) His worst behaviour is generally during long car drives. He has been generally very sensitive to sound and smell.. (I have read out SID and I know its a subset of TS).. So, when I talk aloud during the car drives, he gets more frustrated saying the noise irritates him.. I am so releived that he has outgrown his tics and even his asthma pretty much.. But would be definitely interested in getting his behaviour/tolerance level under control too. would appreciate inputs from anyone in this forum.. Thanks. Chemar
Hi efgh it is always good to hear from you and I am so glad the tic issues are still under control behaviour and emotions! those are the really difficult issues arent they. when is it the disorder and therefore to be handled with understanding as they cant really help it...and when is it just a discipline need honestly, from reading your examples, i do see a lot of SID issues that may be going on, and there Occupational Therapy with a therapist trained to work with SID is by far the best treatment and yes, TS can come bundled with some mood isuues too and once again, testing for amino acid, neurotransmittor and other deficiencies may be key to supplementing, although Inositol is a good one to try first, being a B vitamin now........... also dont forget HORMONES!!!! he is 12 and you are in for a bumpy ride
Claire
Hello efgh, My son went through that and it turned out he had a zinc deficiency. (Often accompanies these growth years). www.directlabs.com has a serum zinc and copper test that you could do to be sure. Pfeiffer talks a lot about zinc deficiencies and anger. In our case, we supplemented and within a month (it takes time for the zinc to go away), he was back to his sweet self. Not saying that he never gets angry, but it is at a normal level now. efgh
Chemar Really kind of you to have given such useful tips. Will try Inositol. Very glad that his tics/asthma is under perfect control. Yeah, I keep telling myself that he is 12 now and his mood issues could be well related to hormones. But wanted to be more proactive given his sensitive background. He is so sensitive to smell, sound, lights. He just cant sleep with even the mildest light bulb on. He needs a DARK room. He gets annoyed when some one talks as he is watching the TV. Is it normal that a child outgrows these sensitivities without therapy , only with the use of supplements? Claire Great to see your post. Zinc is a real good suggestion. What form of zinc and how much dosage are you giving your son? Did you stop the zinc after 1 month once his anger issues got resolved?? Which brand of zinc do you give? How is your son now - is he totally tic free? does he watch the TV? My son has been watching the TV the past 1 year regularly and luckily he is absolutely fine. But I am keen to resolve his mood/sensitivities issues and hence your ideas/suggestions are most welcome. Kim Many thanks for your PM on these issues. Would appreciate if you can let me know the treatment protocol that you adopted to bring his allergies under control now. As usual, you all are so nice and helpful! kim
efgh, Epsom salt baths, zyrtec, non citrus Quercetin, and buffered asorbic acid. Honestly, I added the other things after he was prescribed zyrtec. Zyrtec alone made a huge difference. He was itching from head to toe. Dr. kept insisting it was winter dry skin (skin didn't look dry). Finally I said that I thought that we needed an appt. with an allergist. He was an explosion! grasses, mold, dustmites, weeds, cat (don't have one) many more. I have recently become quite interested vit. C, as an immune booster, and antihistime effects. I was using buffered asorbic acid (Solaray) in addition to what he was getting in the bontech vits. He developed a very acidy stomach, complete with a small "trunck" tic, which we had never seen before. A very helpful thread (13 pages) popped up on mothering.com on the vaccine forum. We are making a switch to sodium asorbate. If you would like any help on finding this information, just holler! Kim
