I still check the strep titers periodically when we have blood work done for my son. Can't believe this is still high. Is this because bart and lyme are still supressing the immune system? Any thoughts understanding this would be appreciated. Kathy

My daughter's dnase went from 50 to 600's in September. It slowly worked it's way back down to lower 200's when last tested in June. Her ASO rose from 30's to 90's during the same time and then back down - but ASO in normal level.

does your doc have a theory?

what are your thoughts about occult strep?

ds had very high titers with onset. he had a great first response to abx, after 30 days symptoms gone but titers high. 4 mths or so later, still high titers. a year later still high.

we treat with homeopathy and saw a symptoms exacerbation every time we tried to reduce his remedy for a long time. finally after a number of times and lots of time, we were able to reduce. he had not been on strep treatment for about 18 mths,.

just recently had titers checked -- had not in 2 years. aso is just over the line (159); anti dnase b is low.

i don't think i buy 'some kids just have high tiers'. i know a ridiculous story of a girl with strep infection in her gums with faulty dental work. high titers kept them looking.

of course, i don't know so i'm not saying he does still have strep -- just my thoughts would be of occult strep.

DS8 (lyme, bart, PANDAS) - ASO baseline of 27 from a pre-PANDAS blood draw years ago (so much for the "some kids just have high ASOs" line). During PANDAS, ASO is stuck in 500s for 2.5 years despite treatment with single abx including amoxicillin, azithromycin, augmentin, biaxin, etc. Throat cultures are negative. Removed tonsils, ASO still in 500s! After treating lyme/bart very aggressively for 12 months his ASO is now in the 300s.

DS7 (lyme, bart, strep carrier) - ASO in 200s. After 12 months of lyme/bart treatment ASO is 80 (the upper limit of normal for our lab). Stopped abx 2 months ago and last week he had the "streppy breath" back again. Ugh. Haven't re-tested yet.

DS5 (lyme, bart, some PANDAS symptoms, but not diagnosed) - ASO in the 700s. After 12 months of lyme/bart treatment it's in the 400s.

Our LLMD says high ASO is very common in lyme patients. Some of her patients recover fully while still having high ASOs. She doesn't know what to make of it. Neither do I.

Smartyjones - do you treat everything homeopathically or just strep? DD10's symptoms really took off when she started developing culture positive strep infections a couple of years ago and they seem to be held in check with combo abx for lyme/bart, but we have done no further strep testing. I will look into that, even though we don't have a baseline.
