my son reacts to NO FLUSH niacin and he tolerates folic acid well. He does take INOSITOL HEXONATE and tolerates it well. Inositol is known to boost serotonin levels too

his histamine has consistently tested in normal range, and he has no allergies other than to penicillin and a mild dustmite sensitivity

O.K. here's the scoop - sort of - the cold that I thought he developed right when we got home and is still pretty bad is actually horrible enrivonmental allergies! I guess if I'd left all this go longer I would have seen that. Something must be in bloom or, God forbid, he's allergic to our relatively new mice (we've had them since June though so I'd think I would have seen this earlier if it were them?). She found he's reacting to everything we are giving him right now (with a few exceptions). She wants to back off on the 5HTP and the P5P, his D-Hist, theanine, etc. His body was just saying no to everything right now. We are going to give him a break and see what happens - hopefully he'll normalize a bit. She wanted him to have his Zrytec which he rarely takes, but wanted to give him a break from the allergies to hopefully stablize him - his histamines are out of this world hence his reaction to everything! He also seemed to do fine with his SAM-e, Vit C and Cal/Mag. The farther he is away from his last dose of stuff the better he seems already - although right this second he's exhausted and starting more again. I'll obviously see how things go and report back. Of course he's starting school on Tuesday - why didn't this happen earlier in the summer? I mean that could even be part of it hunh? He has mixed feelings about school - loves some of it hates other parts of it. Anyway, I hope he falls asleep quicker than last night - poor kid he would just start to doze off and then the tics would wake him up - and they are so violent his bed is actually moving across the floor! He's actually never been quite this bad as far as the violence of the tics. I believe it's because of the location because he's had the frequency before. This tic is right in the center of his back, where one would bend over, so in order to get relief he either has to throw his torso forward or wrench his knees up - which he does so fast I'm afraid he's going to whack his head on something. While reading to him last night his legs shot up and he connected with my leg - ouch! He was soooo sorry and of course I was fine and told him so - he can't help it - but wow, they sure get strong as they grow up! As usual we are trying to keep it light (as best we can given the circumstances) and keep giggling that people in Japan would think him very humble and gracious with all the bowing :) He told me why he thinks he has to "have TS" - because he knows he's strong and can handle it where others probably couldn't and "it's God's way of showing you that this is just life, sometimes good sometimes bad". He inspires ME as I'm not super tight with God right now - kinda angry. Hoyt is such a joy.

Hi Giselle,

Sorry Hoyt's having such a rough time right now. I hope it gets better for him soon. School could be part of it. I loved his comment on why he thinks he has TS. Sounds like you have a really strong son. Keep us posted.

(((Giselle))) and (((Hoyt)))

I hope his body stabilises real quickly. Your docotr is wise to withdraw everything and then begin again

Giselle, dont rule out the mice too quickly! Sensitivity to them, or something they may be carrying could develop, or EVEN THEIR BEDDING/NESTING material. Are they in his bedroom? If so maybe move them out and also dont let him handle them for a while. Tough I know, and hopefully this has nothing to do with them.

But for it to have developed so dramatically and quickly, he definitely seems to be reacting to something.

keeping you and him in my thoughts and prayers

Cheri

Thanks to everyone! The mice are actually in the laundry room which is the furthest from his room but he does play with them a lot - he calls himself "the Mouse Whisperer" - isn't that funny. And to be truthful he kinda is - they actually really like him. We had them out yesterday and they were crawling around on the couch with him (it's leather, just in case of accidents) and there was a loud noise outside (someone's doing construction) and both of them RAN back to him and jumped on him - they looked to him for safety. I was surprised. He's very gentle with them. On another mouse note that would interest you all. We were changing their cage and I had found this "natural looking" mouse bedding. It looked like soft grass and cotton. I opened it up and got a huge whiff of what I thought smelled like petroleum based something. But it tweaked my nose and I couldn't smell it after that first whiff so thought it was just upon opening the package. I put some in their nest at the same time Hoyt said his eyes were starting to water which happened at the same time as the mice jumped into their nest. The fawn colored one (Squeaker) was fine but the black and white one (Apple) came out and almost instantly lost the function of her back legs and started to rotate her head around, like she was having a seizure! As I'm diving my hand into the cage to get the material she quickly recovered and I guess because she was nervous about what happened dove back into her nest and had the same result when she came out again! I was able to get the stuff out, air the nest out (it's a little round basket type thing). I thought she was going to die and we were prepared for it. The pet store had a return policy that said they'd take them back if they weren't healthy but how could we do that - I told Hoyt she was part of our family and that we would support her until she died because they would just probably feed her to a snake. She wasn't right for about two weeks! We gave her B12 and vit C in her water and I fed her a couple of extra fatty nuts and a little of our Omega 3,6,9, egg. We didn't stress her out by picking her up but for a while she would still have these "seizures". Well she's fine now and comes out and plays all the time now so I'm so glad we stuck by her. But it showed me (and Hoyt of course) that everyone is different. Most people are like Squeaker, seemingly unfazed by all the toxins, and some, like Hoyt, are like Apple - very sensitive but with proper care can regain their health. It was a great lesson for us this summer.

Hoyt's a tiny bit better today - at least he says he is. He doesn't appear different to me but he says it was like climbing a mountain. He was still going up yesterday but now he's gone over the top and is on his way back down - I hope that's true. He hasn't had his 5HTP since yesterday morning and hasn't had any nutritionals since day before yesterday. I agree Chemar, I think the doctor was wise to have us start over. He LOVES artichokes (thistle cleans your liver out) so will have those for dinner tonight as well as make him drink lots of water - maybe that can hurry things along. Oh, and he's not babbling as much! It's the meet your teacher picnic today so I'll tell her he might not be in school come Tuesday but that we are trying our best. Please keep us in your prayers,

Giselle

Giselle,

I was so glad to see you return, and have been following your London adventure. So sorry to hear that Hoyt is having a rough time right now. I think a lot of us are right there with you in spirit.

Will be praying for good news.

Wow, what a difference a few hours makes. By 2:30 he was doing SO much better, by dinner he was almost perfect! He hasn't had anything at all, except the zyrtec. We had friends for dinner so he got to bed at 8:00 and had started ticcing a bit then but I believe he was overtired. He fell asleep quickly. I am so happy! I really didn't think he'd be able to go to school on Tuesday and now I'm a little more hopeful. We had the "Meet Your Teacher Picnic" today and I spoke with her about TS - she was super aware (she knew he was coming and had spoken to his last year's teacher). She had watched videos and read lots of articles - made me happy. I told him if she was O.K. with this I could send him and then come have lunch to see how he was doing, that he'd probably be supressing but that it couldn't last the day - if he was having a hard time I'd take him at lunch. She told me to go ahead and do whatever I thought best. She was so wonderful, it put my mind at ease. She also was aware of some of the new thoughts on allergy and hypersensitivity and how it relates to the different spectrum disorders- yeehaw!!!! I hope this keeps going but am waiting for him to get to the other side when he starts needing stuff again but I guess I'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Thanks everyone for being there!

Giselle
