My DS 7 had IVIG about 3 weeks ago. Within the past week or so he has been complaining of pain in his chest. He explains it as a short zapping feeling. He also says he feels like he has trouble breathing. He went to the school nurse today and she called me. Said his oxygen levels were normal and sent him back to class. DS also told me the zaps in his chest happen when he is just sitting at his desk - no physical activity. He has other symptoms of PANDAS that come and go - anxiety, worried about things out of his control, his brain telling him things. The chest pain is a new symptom that really worries me.

Has any other parent experienced these pains with their PANDAS child? The whole PANDAS experience is a roller coaster in and of itself. It's overwhelming to deal with at times and to add physical chest pain to it takes the worry to a new level! DS has had EEG and EKG and it all looked normal.

Just a thought...a few years ago I had chest pains like that and my doctor referred me to a heart specialist who ordered a bunch of tests and he then told me there was nothing wrong with me! - despite these stabbing pains! They weren't brought on by exercise - I could be sitting or lying down and I'd get them. It was my naturopath who told me I had an infection of the pericardium - the sheath around the heart. He told me an antibiotic would have knocked it over. (I didn't go back to the doctor and chose to stick with my naturopath!)

my dd has suffered through through these similar symptoms during/after pans flare . her doc said costochondritis.

(Costochondritis (kos-toe-KHON-dri-tis) is an inflammation of the cartilage that connects a rib to the breastbone (sternum). It causes sharp pain in the costosternal joint — where your ribs and breastbone are joined by rubbery cartilage. Pain caused by costochondritis may mimic that of a heart attack or other heart conditions.)

he put her on 800mg ibuprofen/Motrin for the inflammation . worked fast & well

DS used to get these all the time, only they were everywhere...sometimes even described as feeling like a sword was put into his chest. We later found out they were related to Lyme, and since starting treatment, he rarely gets them anymore.

My ds9 told me about these pains on occasion. His pediatrician wasn't able to identify anything. Ds says that it only happens when he is sitting down. Interesting that others have also felt that too.
