DS, 12, has been on Clarithromycin, Augmentin XR 1000 mg and Minocycline while we wait for his blood work to come back. Time between first appt and follow up is six weeks, but only 30 days of meds prescribed. He took his last Clarithromycin six days ago. He is still tking the Augmentin XR because we had some left over from the doc we were seeing before. The symptom that has been with us all along, the nasal snuffle and blocked nose is still with us. After the steroid wore off, it came right back.

From what I can gather from reading some of son's labs, he has absolutely no antibodies to strep. So would that mean that even with antibiotics, he is not mounting the proper response to strep in his nose.

Son had a huge meltdown, tonight. Crying, screaming, throwing things, BAD. I gave him advil. He already takes magnesium and zinc. I feel so bad for him.

Any advice?

If I remember correctly your son was dealing with Bartonella diagnoses? His increased in behavior shortly after eliminating an antibiotic could mean he is still dealing with this particular infection. With Bartonella you typically see a flair in one to two weeks after lowering or eliminating antibiotics if infection is still present. It could also be the rebound effect after steroid use and chronic infection/s is reasserting itself. Have you rerun Bartonella titers lately or was it clinical diagnoses?

For the stuffiness in his nose I'd try XClear. Its very good against strep, staph and mycoplasma in the nose. Our entire family uses it daily with great success. We do have mycoplasma diagnoses on top of TBI.

I am using xlear now for a sinus infection. It's wonderful, so soothing.

If you want him to stay on the antibiotics, call your pharmacy and tell them that-

they will contact your Doctors office to get the okay.

I think the key ingredient is Xylitol. It's a saline spray with added xylitol. They also sell a kids version with a cute elephant on the bottle. Not sure why you would need to purchase the kids version though, other than it possibly having a smaller nozzle.

I have heard the sprayer on the regular adult size (the one in the glass bottle) works better.

In addition to xylitol, Xlear also had grapefruit seed extract (as a preservative), which is also anti bacterial.

Thanks to all of you. I take grapefruit seed extract when I am sick. Seems to help. Anything antibacterial in the nose, seems like a great thing for us. Thanks for the info!
