bulldog24 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 My son needs more ivig. He had 2 thru nih. dr. B seemed hopeful they would cover it. I am not. Expect the worse hope for the best Mind set. A friend thinks that being in the study will help since he got to 90% with 2 doses from 10%. Any experiences?
forjpj Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 They approved my ds' ivig fairly easy...much easier than the pex. But get the Office of Personal Management phone number into you contacts list just in case!! They were extremely helpful...especially with speeding things up!! Good luck!!
BoyIowa Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 I have federal cigna, do you think OPM would help with an appeal to a denial?
bigmighty Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 When you get your ducks in a row to proceed with this, just make sure that the actual treatment takes place more than six months from your start date with NIH and after you have completed your six-month NIH eval.
bulldog24 Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 thank you. we are done with nih in may which is 6m.

Stephanie2 Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 One of my sons received one ivig tx under bcbs federal 2 years ago. I moved too fast for them to approve or deny so I had to pay upfront. However, my husband talked to a lot of people at bcbs and we sent in a letter of appeal about 9 months later. We ended up winning the appeal one year post ivig and we received full reimbursement, which was shocking since he did not qualify for immune deficiency. However, they later sent us a letter stating that they would not reimburse/approve any further ivig after that one tx. Not sure why. We do classical homeopathy which works much better than ivig for my sons now.
