tpotter Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Both my children's viral IgG's (coxsackie, EBV, HSV6, Parvo, and one other...can't remember off the top of my head) have doubled. Interestingly, DS19 has been on valcyclovir for about 3 months now, DS16 has not been on antivirals, but his mycoP IgG's had also doubled (I was the sickie, and since I upped my tx, his MycoP IgG's have gone back down to where they were), and his ASO's had tripled. He's been getting weekly bicillin injections, because of the high ASO, as well as the fact that he started having palpitations (cardiologist thinks infection triggered), and his spleen still enlarged (hematologist thinks it's infection triggered.) So, my question to all you wonderful people, if mycoP IgG was doubled when I was sick (and exposing him), but came down with me being treated, ASO came down as he is being treated, why are viral IgG's doubling in BOTH my children, despite the fact that one is actually being treated with antivirals? I already told DH that I'm going to ask LLMD to test both of us for virals. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. BTW, DS19 is complaining about a sore upper palate, and he used to get mouth sores all the time. He is not on abx (but occasionally takes cats claw,) because he has had too many C-diff infections. He's been having behavioral changes, and says he doesn't feel quite well. Edited February 15, 2012 by tpotter
SSS Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 Maybe he needs a different anti-viral medication? Famvir, or Valtrex, etc.? I have heard individuals respond to certain ones better than others.
LNN Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 DD was homebound for 2 months due to recent EBV. For her, l-lysine did the trick. Doc said if it was going to help, it would help quickly. W/in 3 days, we saw a big improvement. She's been on it for 2 weeks and is back to old self. L-lysine is a seratonin antagonist, so we are now having issues with high anxiety (not OCD). So we are going to stop the lysine and see where things settle. She will be going back to full day of school after our next 504mtg next week. It seems to have been the right stuff for her.
MichaelTampa Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 Remember the IGG is measure of antibodies the person is making, and for a lot of lymies the most sick people have fewer of these, body can't do as much. So maybe the initial increase you are seeing is a sign that something is working but there is much more work to do?
sf_mom Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) The mouth sore seems like its the Coxsackies expressing itself. I can't remember if your still doing the hdIVIG or not. Its possible they are getting re-exposed though the blood product. Our LLMD said the filters are small but often the viruses are smaller than antibodies and therefore do not get filtered. Its a double edge sward sometimes with the hdIVIG and you should just be conscious of the potential exposure. EDIT: Or maybe its possible the viral titers are being impacted by donor antibodies? I would also consider looking into their nagalase levels to see if they are high. Here is some information from the Better Health Guy on the topic. http://betterhealthguy.com/joomla/blog/247-gcmaf Edited February 15, 2012 by SF Mom
JuliaFaith Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 The heart palpitations would be something I would think about myself. After 6 months into treatment, my ds started on supplements for cardiovascular support as viruses/biofilm/low oxygen (mycos) intake etc. can mess with the heart and other organs. My ds had been on Valtrex and supplements for viruses for over a year with no progress, so we just started him on Valcyte. He has also been taking other viral supplements and still is.

So maybe the initial increase you are seeing is a sign that something is working but there is much more work to do? That's an interesting way to look at it. But, what concerns me is that DS16's IGG for mycoP also had doubled when I actually had mycoP again, then came down as I was treated for it. Even my pulmonologist, who typically believes that high IgG just means that the body has already fought the infection, said that we should test his sputum, because doubling is just not normal, particularly when he clearly was exposed. That's why it's concerning me that their IgG has gone up so much for viruses. Who knows.
tpotter Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 Thanks for the suggestions. Has anyone found that their viral IgG's have gone down with treatment? If so, how much?
